About this experience
This has to be one of the most unique slot canyons in Southern Utah. It has beautiful stripes on the walls of the canyon that make this a photographer's dream. With a 5-mile round trip hike make sure to bring water. It is a short slot canyon but well worth the hike. This canyon can hold a bit of water at times after very heavy rains. Tours are conditional to weather. Being on time is imperative. We are on MST and an hour different than Las Vegas and Arizona. If you are more than 15 late we may have to leave without you.

What you'll see and do
Zebra Slot Canyon
Named after the vivid stripes that line its walls, Zebra Slot Canyon in Grand Staircase Escalante is perhaps the most unique canyon in Southern Utah. To reach the stunning canyon requires an 8-mile drive down a dirt road, a 5-mile round trip hike, 45 minutes drive to and from, and a challenging climb through very narrow canyon walls. Even though the Zebra Slot Canyon itself is only about a quarter-mile long, the long journey to reach it is completely worth the effort.

Great guided tour to an incredible slot canyon!
My wife and I had a great time on the hike to and into Zebra slot canyon with Roam Outdoors. This was the second of two slot canyon tours with Roam near Escalante. We enjoyed both the Trio of Canyons and then Zebra. Zebra was a longer hike out in the desert, which we enjoyed. It was a short slot canyon, and very challenging, yet extremely beautiful and interesting. We booked with Roam Outdoors and we're glad we did. 1) Jack French, our guide, was great. He is an affable young man, of Navaho descent, and made us really comfortable. He shared great insights about the region and was very enthusiastic. When we got to Zebra, we found that the sand "floor" was much lower than usual due to recent rain storms, which made the canyon much narrower and hard to get through. Back in the"cool" part of the canyon, the only way to proceed was to scale up and shimmy along bracing feet on the opposite side of the canyon. Jack climbed up easily, and patiently waited and encouraged me as I struggled and finally succeeded n working my way up 8-10 feet and scootching along. I'm 63 and not as nimble as I used to be! 2) It was great to have a knowledgeable guide, with tips about how to do everything and who took great pictures of us. 3) With Roam, we felt safe and secure. the route to Zebra is now well marked and Jack knew every bend and key to working through the canyon. 4) Roam is a top-notch operation. Very well organized, good equipment, great to work with. If you like a desert hike, are OK with wading through some wet spots, and want to see a super beautiful slot canyon, then this tour is highly recommended!

Unique and beautiful adventure!
We took this tour with our three adult children. I spent a lot of time researching which would be the best slot canyon for our (my) fitness and ability level! My husband and I are both 50 and average size and fitness. Our tour guide was Coleman and he did a great job leading and keeping us entertained along the way. It is about a 5 mile hike ( round trip), not too difficult, but bring a lot of water if it will be hot. The canyon was full of water, which I knew was a possibility, but not a certainty. So we left our bags and shoes outside. There were a few tight squeezes, where I do not feel I could have been much bigger! I did struggle in one area to shimmy over some rocks and needed help and coaching. I think I perhaps did it the hard way. And I think it would have been much easier if I had some kind of shoe to help me grip the rock and get up higher. But my boys had no trouble whatsoever. Once you get over that part you are treated with the beauty of Zebra slot canyon. I am incredibly glad we used a guide to tour the canyon for the expertise. Coleman also took the time to get some pictures of all of us, which I appreciated greatly!

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Bryce Canyon National Park.
How much does Zebra Slot Canyon Hiking Tour in Escalante cost?

How long does Zebra Slot Canyon Hiking Tour in Escalante take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Bryce Canyon National Park is not rushed.
Is Zebra Slot Canyon Hiking Tour in Escalante worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 70 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 20 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Bryce Canyon National Park, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Zebra Slot Canyon Hiking Tour in Escalante?
+

Is Zebra Slot Canyon Hiking Tour in Escalante suitable for kids and families?

Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Bryce Canyon National Park can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Bryce Canyon National Park and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

+

When is the best time to visit Bryce Canyon National Park?
+
Late spring through early fall for full access and the widest tour availability, with quieter trails in the shoulder weeks. How many days do you need in Bryce Canyon National Park?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
