About this experience
A small ancient village in South-Eastern Poland, Zalipie, is definitely one of the country’s top tourist attractions. Not because it has five-stars hotels or massive glass buildings, but on the contrary, due to its small wooden cottages, which are painted in the most vibrant colors. The secluded village of Zalipie is home to a charming tradition. Over a century ago the women of the village began to paint their houses: however, it was not the single, uniform color one might expect from a traditional and conservative society. Important notice: This tour will be held only if in the group will be at least 2 participants.

What you'll see and do
Zalipie
Zalipie- colourful village, is famous for the decoration of its houses, with cheerful paintings on the walls and stoves, and crepe-paper flowers, paper-cut designs and hay spiders. This tradition has existed in the Powiśle Dąbrowskie region since the end of the 19th century. Flowers were also painted on external walls of peasant cottages and farm buildings, on fences, wells and even kennels. In Zalipie, there are now around 20 painted houses. The best known example of this original folk artwork is the homestead of Felicia Curyłowa (currently a branch of the District Museum of Tarnów), a Zalipie painter whose painting was already known in the period between the wars. During our tour, you will get to see beautiful decorated private houses and gardens, chapels (more than in the description below), the Felicja Cyrołowa Museum, the House of painters, church, Zalipie village around.

Zalipie’s best guide!
We loved Zalipie! Having Maciej as our guide and chaperone for the day was honestly the best decision we made! I had done literal hours of research when it came to Zalipie and had originally planned to do it ourselves! I AM SO GLAD WE HAD MACIEJ! Zalipie is often portrayed as a place where all the unique buildings are close together.. but it’s not. You have to know where to go and who to talk to! Maciej made a stop for us on the way to get a light snack and coffee as well as a beautiful hidden gem (we were lucky we could get it before a service). Once we arrived in Zalipie he knew the locals and knew which properties we could and couldn’t enter and had the utmost respect for the towns people. Some of the properties we were even able to meet the artists who had GENERATIONS of experience! If you’re going to Zalipie, I CANNOT RECOMMEND MACIEJ HIGHER- he is the man to take you there!

Colorful painting homes
There are a small group of these special houses with beautiful floral paintings you tour through. You learn about the women who started this colorful painting.

The trip was amazing. Maciej was a great tour leader and I would highly recommend going on one of his tours. He's very passionate about the tours and that everyone's is enjoying the tour. The village was beautiful and visiting people painted house was a great experience. It's clear that Maciej has a great rapport with all the people in the village to make the trips run as smoothly as possible.

Lovely tour to Poland's beautiful countryside!
Our guide and driver were terrific, and took very good care of us. The town and the painted houses were beautiful. We visited a small museum first, then several private houses and gardens, and were able to meet some of the artisans themselves. There were also opportunities to buy some handpainted crafts directly from the artists. This was a great opportunity to get a bit off the beaten tourist path.

Painted Houses- Great Experience!
Our guide, Matthew, helped make this a wonderful experience. He was easy to talk to and answered all of our questions. We saw beautiful countryside and enjoyed the painted houses. It would have been very difficult to do this on our own. Matthew had relationships with some of the home owners. It felt like a very personalized experience. We highly recommend this tour.

Why this scores 66
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
ZALIPIE - painted village, unique small group tour from Krakow: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Krakow.
How much does ZALIPIE - painted village, unique small group tour from Krakow cost?
+
Prices start at $122 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Krakow usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does ZALIPIE - painted village, unique small group tour from Krakow take?
+
Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Krakow is not rushed.
Is ZALIPIE - painted village, unique small group tour from Krakow worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 66 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 9 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Krakow, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule ZALIPIE - painted village, unique small group tour from Krakow?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is ZALIPIE - painted village, unique small group tour from Krakow suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book ZALIPIE - painted village, unique small group tour from Krakow?
+
Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Krakow can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Krakow and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does ZALIPIE - painted village, unique small group tour from Krakow start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Krakow within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Krakow?
+
On Outty we rank every Krakow experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Complete Cracow Bike Tour (small group of maximum 15 people!), Krakow–Zakopane: Cable Car, Chocholow Baths, Cheese & Vodka, Krakow: Zakopane & Hot Springs Tour with Cable Car (Hotel Pickup). The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Krakow?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Krakow?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
