What you get
About this experience
Exclusive, private tour (only your family/friends) of the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown (ARMY), some of the Yorktown Battlefields (Surrender Field), the federal museum (National Park Service with General Washington's original tents from the American Revolutionary War), Victory monument, and alleged cave where Cornwallis retreated. This is the only private tour with a private guide at all stops. This is NOT a group bus or group shuttle tour. This tour includes an in depth learning experience about the siege of Yorktown that lasted several weeks and explores the surrendering of arms on October 19, 1781 including Surrender Field. The afternoon tour at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown includes the canon firing at 3:00pm (weather dependent from March 1st-November 30th). We spend about 4 to 4.5 hours touring and about an hour driving which makes this a 5 to 5.5 hour tour. Note: the state museum has scooter rentals for $15.

Must Do!
Bambi was an incredible guide for our Yorktown Battlefield tour. We brought our 9-year-old with us, and she did a wonderful job making the experience engaging and enjoyable for all of us. She was personable, knowledgeable, and incredibly well-versed not only in the subject matter of the tour, but in the broader history surrounding it as well. She was very generous with her time and had such an easy, comfortable manner. We learned so much and would highly recommend her!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for this wonderful review! I truly enjoyed sharing the Yorktown Battlefield and the story of America’s victory at Yorktown with your family. It means a great deal to hear that your 9-year-old was engaged and enjoyed the experience too—making history meaningful for different generations is one of my favorite parts of guiding. I also want you to know that your review made a real difference. Thoughtful reviews like yours helped elevate our Yorktown Battlefield tour on Viator and contributed to our receiving a Badge of Excellence. Thank you for trusting me with part of your family’s visit to Yorktown and for supporting a small, local tour company. Historical
This was a great experience, so anyone visiting should wear closed toed comfortable shoes for there will be plenty of walking. Bambi was our tour guide and was extremely knowledgeable of all aspects of Yorktown and surrounding areas. It was extremely hot the day we visited but Bambi was very good at reading the room! We took many breaks and stopped a few times for drinks and overall was a pleasant experience. Bambi would always check on us to see how we were doing throughout the tour and was able to answer every question we had for her! If you love history and enjoy being in the company of a knowledgeable and pleasant guide, Bambi is the person and Yorktown is the place!
Response from the operator: Thank you, thank you, thank you for your review! I'm delighted you enjoyed exploring Yorktown and its surrounding historic sites with me. Even on a very hot Virginia day, I'm glad we could take breaks, stay comfortable, and bring the story of the American Revolution to life. I enjoyed sharing America's story with you and your family. I hope your memories of Yorktown continue to inspire you as we celebrate our nation's 250th anniversary!

Exceptional Tour Experience at Yorktown Battlefield and Museum with Bambi
Our visit to the Yorktown battlefield was profoundly enriched by our guide, Bambi, whose passion for history and gift for storytelling brought the Revolutionary War to life. Her ability to clearly explain the complex events, circumstances, and key historical figures of the time was nothing short of remarkable. Bambi seamlessly wove together the strategic significance of Yorktown, the personalities of figures like George Washington and General Cornwallis, and the broader context of the war with clarity and enthusiasm. Her explanations were accessible yet deeply informative, making the experience engaging for both history buffs and casual visitors alike. Thanks to Bambi, we left with a far deeper understanding of the pivotal role Yorktown played in America's fight for independence. Her tour was not just educational—it was inspiring. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a meaningful and memorable visit to this historic site.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for this incredibly thoughtful review! It was truly a joy bringing the story of Yorktown to life and exploring the strategy, personalities, and pivotal moments alongside figures like George Washington and Charles Cornwallis. I’m so glad the experience felt both meaningful and inspiring—wishing you a tour-iffic 2026!

Why this scores 62
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Yorktown Museum, Battlefields & Historic Area-Private Guided Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Williamsburg.
How much does Yorktown Museum, Battlefields & Historic Area-Private Guided Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $250 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Williamsburg usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Yorktown Museum, Battlefields & Historic Area-Private Guided Tour take?
+
Plan for about 5.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Williamsburg is not rushed.
Is Yorktown Museum, Battlefields & Historic Area-Private Guided Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 62 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 15 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Williamsburg, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Yorktown Museum, Battlefields & Historic Area-Private Guided Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Yorktown Museum, Battlefields & Historic Area-Private Guided Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Yorktown Museum, Battlefields & Historic Area-Private Guided Tour?
+
Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Williamsburg can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Williamsburg and add a light layer if any part of the 5.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Yorktown Museum, Battlefields & Historic Area-Private Guided Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Williamsburg within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Williamsburg?
+
Williamsburg centres on Colonial Williamsburg passes, Jamestown and Yorktown history tours, lantern-lit ghost walks and theme park tickets a few minutes away. On Outty we rank every Williamsburg experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Full Day Historic Guided Tour to Jamestown and Yorktown with Lunch, Magic Happens at The Wagsters Magic Theatre, Williamsburg Ghosts, Witches and Pirates Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Williamsburg?
+
April to June and September to October. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Williamsburg?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
