Step out of the Tulum heat and into a hidden underground world. At Yaxmuul Cenote Park, 15 minutes north of Tulum, a local bilingual guide leads you to crystal-clear cenotes inside ancient limestone caves. Begin with a short Mayan copal ceremony, asking the guardians of the cenotes for permission to enter. It's optional, but almost everyone joins. Then comes the adrenaline: harness on, you rappel down a rock wall straight into a turquoise cenote. The park's trained team controls the rope and provides all the safety gear, so no experience is needed. On the guided cenote tour (about 1.5 hours), float beneath stalactites thousands of years old while your guide reveals why the Maya saw these caves as gateways to Xibalbá, the underworld. Admission, guide, rappel and life jackets included. Afterwards, stay until closing (9 AM to 4 PM). Most guests spend 2 to 3 hours. Perfect for couples, families and nature lovers looking for a real cenote adventure near Tulum.

    Beautiful experience to enjoy.

Very good experience, more than I thought. The closed cenotes were very pretty! The water and the place are very pleasant.

Response from the operator: Yamuul está lleno de magia. Sus cenoptos son sagrados; una vez entras en ellos, tu cuerpo entra en sintonía con el universo; se funden como un solo ser y nunca podrás olvidar lo que aquí viviste. Espero poder verte pronto nuevamente..

    Best cenotes in Tulum

The Yaxmuul Cenotes tour was an unforgettable experience! The cenotes were stunning, with crystal-clear water and incredible rock formations. Swimming, exploring the caves, and learning about the area made the adventure even more special. The guides were friendly, professional, and made us feel safe throughout the tour.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for sharing your experience at Yaxmuul and for taking the time to write such a lovely review! We are thrilled to know that the tour was unforgettable for you. The cenotes of Yaxmuul are a true natural wonder. For thousands of years, the water filtered through the limestone of the Yucatan Peninsula has created these crystal clear pools and impressive rock formations, and for the ancient Maya the cenotes were sacred places, doors to the underworld and sources of life. Swimming in that water and exploring the caves is a way to connect with that history and with the deep spirit of this land, and we are so glad you could feel it. It also makes us very happy that you enjoyed learning about the area. We believe that understanding the meaning of the cenotes, the Mayan traditions and the importance of protecting these fragile ecosystems makes the experience much richer, and our guides love sharing that knowledge with every visitor. Thank you as well for your kind words about the guides. Their priority is always that every guest feels safe and comfortable, especially in the caves and underground areas, and knowing that you felt well taken care of is the best recognition they can receive. We will make sure they read your message. We hope the freshness of the water, the silence of the caves and the beauty of the formations stay with you as a wonderful memory of your trip. Whenever you return to Tulum, we would love to welcome you again, whether it is to visit more cenotes, to snorkel with the sea turtles or to discover the magic of Sian Ka'an. Warmest regards and a big hug from the Mexican Caribbean!

    Great experience, don’t spend double

Buying tickets ahead of time saved us 50% than at the gate. We got to the gate to buy tickets and they were $40 USD per person, Viator was roughly $22 usd/pp so keep that in mind. Our guide spoke excellent English but a girl we met there had the zip line option on her itinerary and ended up coming back down from the platform because that portion’s guide spoke no English so she couldn’t tell what the instructions were and it felt unsafe not knowing what to expect.

Response from the operator: Muchas gracias por su mensaje y calificación, vamos a poner especial atención en su sugerencia. Esperamos poder atenderle nuevamente pronto.

The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Tulum?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Tulum?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
