What you'll see and do
Muslim Quarter
Meet your guide in an easy-to-find location, then walk to one of the two most popular food districts of Xi’an. It is an ancient style building complex with a large collection of the most famous local snacks from all over the province! Here we will taste the savory Chinese hamburger - round pita bread stuffed with minced pork, and then visit the only food museum in the same area within the wall. After a short stroll through a park we will take a quick bus ride to the Muslim quarter, the other food marketplace in a community with a 1300 year history. It’s not only a place of historic interest but the most colorful and bustling area, a real kaleidoscope of local life! The rest of our tour will mainly take place in this humble but richly cultural district! These 5-6 eateries are scattered around the district, some on main streets and others tucked away in back streets, but they all cook for the locals. While visiting these food stops, you will learn a lot about the local’s lives and the family restaurants that have been making their specialties for generations. You’ll watch your food being made and learn about what makes it so special to Xi’an locals. Whether it’s sitting by an old man grilling meat over burning coals or watching dumplings being made right in front of you, whether you are shredding your own pita bread for “Pita Bread Soaked in Lamb Soup”(Yangroupao) or listening to the sound of making fresh Biangbiang noodle, there are always something for you to try! The tour will be done mainly by walking and private tuk-tuk that can only be found in the area!

Wonderful experience
Our food tour with Michael was truly a wonderful experience. The food choices and locations were superb, and were perfectly balanced in terms of quantity, taste and variety. Michael provided excellent information on the food we tasted and the historical context of individual dishes as well as general Chinese food history. Travelling by tuk-tuk was a great way to go between the food neighbourhoods we visited. This is an absolute must do activity in Xi’an for anybody who likes food.

Go for it
This was a fun tour. Our guide Michael made it very enjoyable and we got to taste a lot of different foods. Riding in the tuk tuk and breaking cups after drinking wine was also fun. Highly recommend signing up for this tour, worth the money.

Amazing experience trying Xi’an’s top food spots
Michael was an incredible guide. He spent 4 hours taking us around Xi’an (walking and by tuk-tuk) to try out everything. We must have visited 10-15 different stalls and restaurants in total, and all served delicious food. He also took special care to make sure there was enough for me specifically to eat everywhere we went, even though I’m vegetarian and that’s often hard in China. Overall a fantastic experience and would really recommend!

Must do Xi’an Foodie and night tour
Fantastic foodie and night experience in Xi’an on our first evening with our amazing private guide Michael. On a mother and son trip with my 15 year old. Michael was super knowledgeable and chatty / we tried about 9 different things including 2 almost complete meals and the smash bowl wine experience and were incredibly full by the end - definitely come hungry! Even managed to fill a growing teenager which is a first! Amazing to see the Muslim area and Main Street at night - so busy! Michael organised tuktuks to get us around which added to the fun and a taxi back at the end. Definitely recommend this good tour - so much great varied food and a fantastic fun knowledgeable guide - don’t miss it!

Why this scores 74
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Xi'an Private Foodie Tour by Tuktuk: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Xian.
How much does Xi'an Private Foodie Tour by Tuktuk cost?
+
Prices start at $91 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Xian usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Xi'an Private Foodie Tour by Tuktuk take?
+
Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Xian is not rushed.
Is Xi'an Private Foodie Tour by Tuktuk worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 74 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 41 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Xian, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Xi'an Private Foodie Tour by Tuktuk?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Xi'an Private Foodie Tour by Tuktuk suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Xi'an Private Foodie Tour by Tuktuk?
+
Around 14 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Xian can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Xian and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Xi'an Private Foodie Tour by Tuktuk start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Xian within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Xian?
+
On Outty we rank every Xian experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Private Xi'an Day Tour: Terracotta Army&Optional City Attractions, All-Inclusive Terracotta Army Tour with Premium Buffet Lunch, 2-Day Customized Warriors Tours & Xian Top Attractions. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Xian?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Xian?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
