Being the only one of its kind in Greece, the Wine Museum occupies a natural cave. It is eight meters below ground, 300 meters long and has a labyrinth-like shape. The Wine Museum presents the history of wine and the life of vine-growers in Santorini from 1660 to 1970. 3. Venetsanos Winery

Venetsanos winery is located right above the port of Athinios, overlooking the magnificent caldera of Santorini. The Venetsanos family has a very long tradition in producing wine. Originally was produced for the island and subsequently it was exported extensively, and particularly to countries such as Russia. It was built in 1947 by Venetsanos family and became the first industrial winery on the island. Its most distinguished feature is the structural design, which essentially used gravity, facilitating energy efficiency, at a time when access to electricity and other energy sources was very limited. The winery was built in an unconventional manner constructed from above and moving downwards.

    Poor service

Let me start by saying that our wine tour was fine. Problem I had was lack of communication and MTM taking no responsibility for their mistakes. When we booked the tour for 6/9/2023, we were told that our pickup location would be at our hotel in Fira. Tour started at 3:30pm and we received no further communications so I reached out to MTM at 3pm to confirm the pickup time and the location. They said our pickup location was at Oia, which is on the other side of the island of Fira and a 20 minute cab ride from our hotel. Instead of apologizing or picking us up at the hotel in Fira, they argued with me for 20 minutes saying they sent me the location and I didn’t respond. After proving them wrong, they sent me another location in Fira which was 15 min walk from our hotel. We waited another 20+ minutes at the new location before they eventually picked us up. If they picked us up at our hotel as initially scheduled, this would never been a issue. Doubtful I would use this tour service again.

    Horrible value for the price

Given the considerable price tag and description, I was expecting a terrific wine tasting tour that would fill up the 5-hour time slot. Despite the description, our guide did not appear to be an actual sommelier, and she added little value beyond what the wine waiters told us at the 2 wineries we visited. In reality, this 5-hour private tour was not really a “wine-tasting tour” but was instead a substandard, partial island tour with a couple of winery visits thrown in. One of the wineries was good, but the other was mediocre. All in all, a terrible value and a waste of time. Save your money. Visit the wineries on your own. If you don’t feel comfortable driving on your own, order a taxi or hotel shuttle. There are plenty available.

Response from the operator: Dear Guest, Thank you for posting your feedback of your recent tour. Do have in mind that sommeliers toured you wine in wineries in that private tour and two out of the best ones were visited by you during that tour. All that was covered was exactly as per tour description. Your detailed review helps us to see our product through your eyes. We hope to have the opportunity of welcoming you back for another tour. Best Regards

Winery - Oia Sunset Private Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Santorini.

How much does Winery - Oia Sunset Private Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $687 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Santorini usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Winery - Oia Sunset Private Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Santorini is not rushed.

Is Winery - Oia Sunset Private Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 44 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.3/5 across 4 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Santorini, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Winery - Oia Sunset Private Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Winery - Oia Sunset Private Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Winery - Oia Sunset Private Tour?

    +

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Santorini can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Santorini and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Winery - Oia Sunset Private Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Santorini within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Santorini?

    +

On Outty we rank every Santorini experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Half Day Premium Catamaran Cruise in Santorini including Oia, Private Santorini Tailor Made - Choice of the Guest!, Private Classic Santorini Panorama: Visit Top Destinations. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Santorini?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Santorini?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
