An amazing tour of Emilia-Romagna and a memorable experience

This was an amazing, intimate tour of the Emilia-Romagna area. It was November, so the weather was a bit crappy (raining and foggy when we went). We were picked up at our hotel in the morning, then had about a 45 minute drive into the countryside. We went to a lovely modern winery specializing in Labrusco wine, the wine of the region. Our favorite wine, barbara, was also available there, so we were happy to taste those wines, along with a little antipasti. Our hostess was lovely, and the winery was tucked back in hills that were truly serene. But the best was yet to come. An hour later, we were driven by our driver to a small twon called Castelvetro di Modena, to a place called the Farm Cabins, where we tried the wine they made on site for their restaurance there. Amazing views in a very rustic setting. The property was situated on a hill, where they run a B&B. The family staff were amazing and welcoming. No menu, just sit down, drink wine, and enjoy the courses of food that were beyond amazing. Delicious local antipasti with little puffy bread and fresh parmesan. Primi was homemade tortellini, and the secondi was amazing pork. What made this place even more special was the fact that it was packed on a Sunday afternoon. According to our driver, this is not the normal daily thing-- they all came from church. I mean, literally over a hundred people, all sat at tables of 8 and 10, all enjoying each other's company. It was a really amazing feeling to feel as though we were part of the small community, even if just for a day. I don't know that they should call this a wine experience as much as a Emilia-Romagna experience. Maybe it is because it started as a wine experience, and turned into a provincial feast for the eyes and mouth. Definitely recommend this tour!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for this wonderful review, reading it truly made our day. We’re incredibly grateful that you took the time to describe your experience in such a vivid and heartfelt way. Even with November’s moody weather, it’s great to know that the beauty of the Colli Bolognesi, the warmth of the people you met, and the authenticity of the places you visited still shone through. This tour was created precisely to share the soul of our region: its wines, its food, its landscapes, and the genuine hospitality that makes Emilia-Romagna so special. We’re delighted that both wineries, the tasting, and the family-run lunch in Castelvetro left such a strong impression. Moments like the Sunday gathering you witnessed are exactly what we hope our guests can experience — that feeling of being welcomed as part of the community, even if only for a few hours. Thank you again for your beautiful words and for recommending the tour. It means a lot to us. We hope to welcome you back someday for more discoveries!

    A great experience

Both vineyards offered a variety of very nice wines paired with local food. Our guides were knowledgeable and friendly. We’ve been on a lot of wine tours, but this was definitely one of the best.

Response from the operator: Wow thank you so much Laura! Our hills hide real pearls that deserve to be known! We are really happy that you enjoyed the tour!

Two wineries in the hills outside Bologna.

A very nice driver collected us at our Airbnb and drove us to two beautiful wineries. Hosts at both places were knowledgeable and passionate about the wines. We had a tour of the wineries, s brief history of the winemakers, as well as a tasting of several varietals at each place. The second winery also served us an amazing lunch. If you have time, definitely take this tour.

Response from the operator: Thank you very much! Glad to know you enjoyed this tour.

    We highly recommend our...

We highly recommend our Bologna wine tour which featured two boutique wineries and excellent hosts for our group of four. The settings and wines were excellent. We were picked up at our hotel by a personal driver which was very convenient.

Response from the operator: Glad you enjoyed the tour. Thank you very much for your feedback!

Wine experience Bologna hills: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Bologna.

How much does Wine experience Bologna hills cost?

    +

Prices start at $320 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Bologna usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Wine experience Bologna hills take?

    +

Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Bologna is not rushed.

Is Wine experience Bologna hills worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 11 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Bologna, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Wine experience Bologna hills?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Wine experience Bologna hills suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Wine experience Bologna hills?

    +

Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Bologna can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Bologna and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Wine experience Bologna hills start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Bologna within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Bologna?

    +

On Outty we rank every Bologna experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Bologna Local Pasta Cooking Class, Ragu, Spritz, Wine & Gelato, Bologna Food Experience: Factory tours & Lunch By Italian Days, Small Group Bologna Food Tour – Local Food & Market Experience. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Bologna?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Bologna?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
