Excellent guided hike in a beautiful place!

We took the 3 hour Vaattunkivaara nature trail hiking at Arctic Circle Hiking Area. It was 10 July and an absolutely perfect day. The forest is beautiful and the trail is well-maintained. Our guide, Gabor, was knowledgeable, thoughtful, and fun to talk to. We enjoyed his company. He obviously has a passion for his work! We enjoyed the half-way stop for an outdoor cooked snack of makki and tea. Plus, we learned to start a fire with a flint fire-starter. Our only regret is that we weren’t here while the blueberries and cloudberries were ripe! But, then we will need to come back for another visit!

Brilliant, informative set to your own pace.

I have to start off by admitting I'm terrible with names. Our guide who was French with a very cute and loveable assistant Alaskan Husky, Duke was AMAZING! First off the office where we were to meet was so easy to find - opposite spec savers 😉. We arrived a fair few minutes early and were welcomed warmly. Duke the Alaskan Husky was so placid as our 11yr old was all over him like a rash. When it was time to go, we were provided netted hats for protection from the monster sized mozzies. Our guide was so knowledgeable and open about his own experiences. We were shown which berries are safe to eat and which ones to avoid, also a wide variety of the local flora and their cultural significance, explained the local eco systems and very patiently answered our sons question after question. The path was easy to traverse and we set our own pace. On our way back down the trail we stopped to make a fire, each step in the process was explained to us in detail with explanations as to why and how. We were then given a chance to try out our new skills at starting the fire with the flint and steele. Thankfully our guide was much better skilled then we were. Hot beverages were made and sausages were roasted - delicious, highly recommend you try the Finnish mustard 🤌. Then we packed up and headed back along the trail to the van for the short drive back into town. If you're looking for a tour to enjoy the Finnish experience and the beautiful scenic forests. This is the tour for you.

How much does Wilderness Survival Tour - Summer & Autumn cost?

    +

How long does Wilderness Survival Tour - Summer & Autumn take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rovaniemi is not rushed.

Is Wilderness Survival Tour - Summer & Autumn worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 56 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 4 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable culture & history in Rovaniemi, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Wilderness Survival Tour - Summer & Autumn?

    +

Is Wilderness Survival Tour - Summer & Autumn suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Wilderness Survival Tour - Summer & Autumn?

    +

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rovaniemi can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rovaniemi and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

    +

What are the best things to do in Rovaniemi?

    +

On Outty we rank every Rovaniemi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Northern Lights Rovaniemi: Guaranteed Viewing & Unlimited Mileage, Rovaniemi: Korouoma Canyon & Frozen Waterfalls Tour with BBQ, Rovaniemi:%100 Guaranteed Northern Lights Hunt&Free Photos. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Rovaniemi?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Rovaniemi?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
