    Good wholesome time.

Pack some snacks Free time ended up only being two and a half hours not enough time to explore the town. There was four of us in a group on the bus, we sat together and assumed we would get our seats when we returned on the bus a couple insisted on taking our parents seats. that was a drag.

    Fun and informative

This was a great tour to round out other more Lake Tahoe centered tours during our vacation. Our guide, Nevada, was witty, fun, and extremely knowledgeable about the area. He took the long way to Virginia City on the way out to show us parts of the state we had not seen before, including beautiful views of the valley. The approx half hour train ride was charmingly and perfectly narrated and included even more history of the area. The rest of the day is spent on the main street of the town and you can choose your own activities for a few hours before the ride back. Bring sunglasses and a hat if you are sensitive to the sun. Highly recommended.

A great mix of historical sightseeing

Our tour guide gets an A+ from his history teacher for dripping many facts into his narration. One of the best tours we’ve been on! Please let out guide know—-we were on the Thursday August 6.

Wild West Vibes in Virginia City

The tour to Virginia City and train ride was fun! The driver was excellent! He was prompt in picking us up to and fro and was a safe driver which was greatly appreciated. We saw wild Mustangs on the way there! We boarded the train as soon as we arrived to Virginia City. It was about a half hour and had enclosed and open air seating. The train conductor gave us lots of info. about the railway system and mining in Virginia City. We were then driven to Main Street in Virginia City where all the shops and restaurants are. We had 3 - 3.5 hours to eat lunch, go to museums, shop, etc. The town is quite charming and people were so friendly and welcoming. It was a great day! We headed back at 2 pm and arrived back in Lake Tahoe at about 3:15. If you're looking for a little history, wild west vibes and a train ride all wrapped up in one tour, this is the tour for you!

Wild West Day Trip to Virginia City from Tahoe with Train Ride: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Lake Tahoe.

How much does Wild West Day Trip to Virginia City from Tahoe with Train Ride cost?

    +

Prices start at $80 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Lake Tahoe usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Wild West Day Trip to Virginia City from Tahoe with Train Ride take?

    +

Plan for about 7 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Lake Tahoe is not rushed.

Is Wild West Day Trip to Virginia City from Tahoe with Train Ride worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 66 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.2/5 across 161 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Lake Tahoe, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Wild West Day Trip to Virginia City from Tahoe with Train Ride?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Wild West Day Trip to Virginia City from Tahoe with Train Ride suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 7-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Wild West Day Trip to Virginia City from Tahoe with Train Ride?

    +

Around 56 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Lake Tahoe can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Lake Tahoe and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Wild West Day Trip to Virginia City from Tahoe with Train Ride start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Lake Tahoe within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Lake Tahoe?

    +

Tahoe splits by season: summer brings boat cruises, kayaking at Emerald Bay, parasailing and Flume Trail rides, while winter brings snowmobiles, snowshoe treks and ski shuttles. Pickup points around the lake are far apart, so meeting logistics matter. On Outty we rank every Lake Tahoe experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include 2 Hour Sailing Cruise on Lake Tahoe, Tahoe Coastal Self-Guided E-Bike Tour(2–4 hrs) | East Shore Trail, Yosemite Grand Adventure - day tour from S. Lake Tahoe. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Lake Tahoe?

    +

June to September for water, December to March for snow. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Lake Tahoe?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
