We’ll begin with a gentle drive along the north shore of Loch Ness, stopping briefly at Invermoriston for a stroll by the falls and a visit to the curious Clog and Craft shop. Continuing north west from here, passing beautiful Loch Cluanie with a possible coffee stop at The Cluanie Inn, we'll pass through the majestic mountain landscape of Kintail. We can stop near the foot of the glen to take a look at the site of the Battle of Glenshiel (1719). We then head over the Ratagan pass, taking in some magnificent views of the Five Sisters of Kintail before dropping down to Glenelg. Here we will investigate the famous Glenelg Brochs, two 2,000 year old structures just past the village, before heading for the community operated ferry to take us over the sea to Skye. Returning over the Skye Bridge, we’ll go searching for Highland cattle and palm trees in Plockton! The Mam Ratagan, or Bealach Ratagain is a pass from Shiel Bridge on the A87 over the hill to the village and surrounding communities of Glenelg. It is a popular tourist route, linking with the Glenelg - Kylerhea Ferry service to the Isle of Skye, and providing a scenic and interesting alternative to the Skye Bridge. However, what few people perhaps realise is that this is the old road to Skye. The road was first built by Major Caulfeild as a military road to the barracks at Glenelg, but followed an older route used by drovers. The views to the Five sisters of Kintail are unrivalled

Brochs at Glenelg - Dun Telve & Dun Troddan
Admire a pair of 2,000-year-old tall broch towers set in a beautiful glen. Dun Telve and Dun Troddan are both outstanding brochs, in the beautiful valley of Gleann Beag. They are unusually close together for brochs, standing just 500m apart. Their excellent state of preservation attracted attention from an early date, but they are also noteworthy for their design, scale and quality of build. Dun Telve still stands to more than 10m in places. Dun Troddan is shorter, at 7.6m, but is better preserved.

The ferry boat, the MV Glenachulish, is the last manually operated turntable ferry in the world. She is ideally suited for this unique crossing to Skye and is an important part of our heritage. Although there has been a car ferry service crossing the Kylerhea straits since 1934, the very same crossing has been in almost constant use for hundreds of years, as this is the closest point on the Mainland to the Isle of Skye.

Scotland made us feel at home, Bill made us feel like family.
We had the most amazing visit to Scotland thanks to Bill's guidance. With our base near Inverness overlooking Loch Ness, Bill took us to see the west part of Scotland, the coast, Plockton, over the Skye bridge, Edinburgh with stops along the way ... .and so much more. The roads in the Highlands are absolutely no joke and I'm so very glad Bill was there to navigate the terrain, allowing us to enjoy the views without stressing over narrow roads and how to yield right-of-way. He took us to places we'd never have ventured on our own, he filled our days with stunning sights and adventures, answered all our questions including ones we didn't even know to ask and taught us how much our hearts long to return to Scotland ... even before we left. Bill is kind, helpful, knowledgable and easy to work with. He seamlessly adjusted each of our three days together to ensure we had the experiences we wanted in our way-too-short visit to Scotland, all the while taking into consideration the pacing and needs of my 74-year-old father. The tour felt both personalized and personal as we discussed everything from history to culture to family to daily living in Scotland ... and we even caught an unplanned glimpse of his mom tending her plants when he took us in the direction of his childhood home to get the best views of Edinburgh way above the city while the pink trees were in beautiful bloom. One of my favorite memories was when Bill turned us loose in a tiny coastal town and said, "go explore." My husband, father and I stumbled into a tiny gin distillery with three small, copper stills tied together on a bar top ... a group of three local residents were just settling in to begin music practice together. They normally practiced in the building next door, but the distillery owner had asked them to practice in his place instead. The room was small already and with the musicians it was even tighter ... which only served to make it feel more intimate. The patrons included my family and one other who had also stumbled in for a coffee. And when they guys started playing ... I teared up. The music was so sweet. The moment was one in a million. It felt local and Scottish and exactly what I had longed to experience while in Scotland. I wanted to step away from all the tourist attractions and feel immersed and this moment was what I dreamed of being about. And he ensured I had every chance possible to see hairy coos. Honestly, I cannot wait to return and see more of Scotland ... a place where so much of my heart now lives. And without hesitation, I know we will be back in touch with Bill to help us make the most of exploration. Thank you, Bill!

An Amazing Day In Western Scotland!
Bill was wonderful. He was prompt, had several plans to choose from to accommodate weather patterns. We had a well paced day full of beautiful scenery, great stops for tea and coffee as well as a lovely lunch. Stress free day and felt well cared for. If you are looking for a personal touch and a few good laughs, Bill will take care of you!

Fabulous
100% The best tour we have taken and we travel a lot. Bill was very personable and extremely knowledgeable . He knew the most interesting facts and also knew hidden gems through the beauty of Scotland. After the tour he showed us to a “real” Scottish pub and we ended up going back after dinner for the evening, It was truly a great tour and a very fun day. I highly recommend this tour and when we go back, we will be touring again with our “new” friend Bill Bonnie P 🇺🇸
