What you'll see and do
Inverness
Your epic one day adventure will begin in Inverness, the capital of the Scottish Highlands. Heading out of the city, I will immerse you in local folklore, suggest other places to visit during your stay and make suggestions about where you can discover the very best food, drink and entertainment that Inverness has to offer.
20 minutes here
Loch Ness Region
First we are off to Loch Ness and to meet the hairy cows. You will not only get to meet and photograph them but I will also enhance the experience by bringing carrots so you can feed them. This is a unique bucket list experience for many people. You will hear all the stories of the world's most famous Loch and see the scenery change dramatically as we head out to the Isle of Skye.
40 minutes here
Glenmoriston
On our way to Skye we will travel through spectacular glens, historical battlefields and ancient crofting communities where I will weave fascinating stories and personally curated historical narratives into the fabric of your journey that will help you understand the rich cultural heritage that saturates every corner of this land. I have also put together a soundtrack for this tour that enables you to form an ethereal connection between the music and the landscape.
60 minutes here
Chocolates of Glenshiel
We will stop for a short coffee break at an award winning chocolatier, you can even watch the chocolate being made on certain days through a viewing window.
30 minutes here
Eilean Donan Castle
Next we will make a quick photo stop at the iconic Eilean Donan Castle, featured in the film Highlander starring Sean Connery. It was voted one of Instagram's most photographed castles in 2023. We do not access the castle on the tour due to time constraints needed for the Old Man of Storr short hike, however this is flexible so if the group all agree we can adjust the schedule to spend more time here.
15 minutes here
Skye Bridge
It is just a 15 minute journey from here to the Skye Bridge. This is a particularly iconic moment for fans of the TV show 'Outlander' as we cross 'Over the Sea to Skye'. There is an alternative route to Skye via the world's only working turntable ferry (Apr to Oct only). This is a much less travelled path with spectacular viewpoints along the way and a seal colony. Thist is a longer route and requires more time. If you are interested in this option please mention after booking or on the day and we can adjust the itinerary to suit.
15 minutes here
Broadford
First we make a stop at the old cattle market town of Broadford to visit a hidden gem. This location is the conclusion to one of the stories I will tell you on the way to Skye. You will also get the opportunity to sample one of Skye's most famous drinks.
15 minutes here
Sligachan Old Bridge
Then its on to Sligachan Old Bridge, the first of the Isle of Skye’s many otherworldly locations and the setting for my trademark 'bridge photo', taken on my drone. Get ready to strike a pose! You will also get the opportunity here to immerse yourself in a famous fairy legend.
30 minutes here
Portree Harbour
We then make the short journey to Portree which is known as the 'Quaint Capital' of the island. Here you can grab some photos of the picturesque harbour as we pass by its pastel coloured houses.
Pass by without stopping
The Old Man of Storr
The 'Jewel in the Crown' of this tour is the hike to The Old Man of Storr (we can swap this out for a Quiraing hike if you prefer). Alternaively if you prefer not to hike, the tour can be modified at this point. The rock formations here and at The Quiraing were left behind after massive landslides swept the rest of the hillside away. The rewards on both hikes are truly magnificent.
180 minutes here
Lealt Falls
If there is time after the Old Man of Storr hike, there is time to explore the landscape here at Lealt Falls, previously a work place for around 50 local people.
30 minutes here
Kilt Rock
Theres also time for a quick photo stop at Scotland's most famous waterfall, Kilt Rock. It is made up of colourful layers of basalt rock columns, where the waterfall drops 90 metres onto the beach below. Sometimes on a wild day you can hear the cliffs whistle!
15 minutes here
Trotternish Ridge
Kilt Rock is the furthest point we can travel on a 1 day tour so it is time to take a well earned rest as we travel back to Broadford for refreshments. If you want more hiking to the Quiraing, Neist Point, Fairy Pools, visit other islands and explore Skye's diverse sealife then please check out Luke Tours 2,3 and 5 day tours. On the way back I will tell you more about the island, other stunning locations, the best accommodation, food, drink and hiking opportunities that Skye has to offer.
90 minutes here
Broadford
We will make a quick stop at Broadford to grab refreshments and browse the gift shop.
30 minutes here
Inverness
Then you can sit back, relax and enjoy yet more stunning scenery and music or maybe get editing all your photos as we return to Inverness.

Why this scores 68
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
1-Day Isle of Skye + Hike Options (from Inverness or Skye): questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Inverness.
How much does 1-Day Isle of Skye + Hike Options (from Inverness or Skye) cost?
+
Prices start at $495 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Inverness usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does 1-Day Isle of Skye + Hike Options (from Inverness or Skye) take?
+
Plan for about 12 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Inverness is not rushed.
Is 1-Day Isle of Skye + Hike Options (from Inverness or Skye) worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 68 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 19 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Inverness, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule 1-Day Isle of Skye + Hike Options (from Inverness or Skye)?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is 1-Day Isle of Skye + Hike Options (from Inverness or Skye) suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 12. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 12-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book 1-Day Isle of Skye + Hike Options (from Inverness or Skye)?
+
Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Inverness can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Inverness and add a light layer if any part of the 12-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does 1-Day Isle of Skye + Hike Options (from Inverness or Skye) start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Inverness within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Inverness?
+
On Outty we rank every Inverness experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include The Ultimate Isle of Skye Day Tour from Inverness, Isle of Skye and Eilean Donan Castle Day Tour from Inverness, Loch Ness, Outlander & Urquhart Castle from Inverness. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Inverness?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Inverness?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
