Without a doubt a favorite for our whole trip
Absolutely amazing! From getting picked up & dropped off at our hotel, the whole river experience was terrific and to top it off, we didn’t realize we were getting a meal and it turned out to be our favorite breakfast of our entire week long trip. Our driver, Ronald, got us where we were going, safely and very prompt. He was a great time even despite the language barrier. Our rafting guides were really cool and entertaining, then made our experience a BLAST and seemed to really enjoy what they do. The beautiful women that cooked our breakfast were amazing cooks and very sweet. It was a highlight of our vacation!
Response from the operator: Thank you! 🙏 We love when the surprise breakfast becomes a highlight! Ronald and our rafting guides will be so happy to hear your kind words, and we will absolutely pass them along to our kitchen ladies too. Thanks for choosing Desafío Adventure Company. We look forward to seeing you on your next adventure! 🌿

Sarapiqui River (Class III - IV) Amazing Trip!
Whitewater rafting the Sarapiqui River (Class III - IV) with Desafio was truly amazing! This was our second time using Desafio and we would highly recommend them over other river guides. Desafio picked us up at our lodge in their van and Andres answered all our questions about the river and the area of LaFortuna, the volcano, etc. on the drive down to the river. I wore a swimsuit under hiking shorts, secure water shoes (no flip flops), long sleeve UV shirt and sunscreen. I also wore sunglasses with a strap under my helmet, but no one else in our raft wore sunglasses, mine were wet with spray and splash most of the time... Bring a change of dry clothes and some cash tip money and you can safely leave all that in your van at the launch site. We left our things in the vans and the drivers stayed with the vans, keeping everything safe for us, later meeting us at the take out point. Once at the river, our guide Felix was a true professional, gave clear instructions and made sure we were safe, and that we understood how to work with him to navigate the river run, while fully experiencing the thrills the river provided while rafting over 11 rapids. Class 3 and 4 rapids are not for the weak or faint of heart, so I would not recommend it for young kids or the elderly or infirm. Class 2 -3 may be more appropriate for those folks. Desafio provided quality rafts, helmets, PFD's (personal floatation devices) and paddles, all in top working condition. Additional guides in kayaks travelled along with our group to scout ahead and provide any assistance if needed. The guides pointed out numerous bird species and other animals along the way, we saw toucans, egrets an osprey and even a sloth! Professional photographers captured action pictures along the way and made them available to us for a reasonable fee when the trip was over. (you're not going to be able to be take pictures with your cell phone on this ride...lol) About midway we all stopped along the shore and the guides provided us with delicious, fresh pineapples and watermelons, a real treat! Desafio provided towels at the take out end where we were reunited with our vans. Be sure to bring cash, as you will want to generously tip your guide at this take out point, because they will be leaving you to guide other groups. Andres and our driver then took us to their private landing afterwards with private changing booths and showers, followed by a delicious traditional lunch which is included in the price. You will see pics of your trip there and will definitely want to purchase them, so keep some cash on hand to pay for that. They will then send you a link to download the pics. All the employees were very friendly and helpful and spoke English very well (we speak a bit of Spanish, but not that well...lol). They all seemed to really enjoy their jobs as much as their customers. I would highly recommend Desafio Whitewater Rafting and look forward to coming back to Costa Rica to ride with them again!
Response from the operator: Wow, what a detailed and thoughtful review — thank you so much! 🙏 We will make sure Felix, Andres, and the whole team hear about this. Your tips for future guests are spot on and so generous to share. We are thrilled that the rapids, the wildlife, the fruit stop, and the lunch all made it such a memorable experience. Thanks for choosing Desafío Adventure Company. We look forward to seeing you on your next adventure! 🌿

Perfect Family whitewater trip
This was a great experience. We did the class 3/4 rapids trip and it was a ton of fun. It was a perfect family trip. All the staff were super friendly and knowledgeable. Our guides Joe and Felix got us into the good rapids and gave each of our boats the ride we asked for. I would use Desafio again.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much! We are thrilled the whole family had a blast on the rapids. Joe and Felix will love hearing this — they always go the extra mile to make sure every boat gets exactly the ride they are looking for! Thanks for choosing Desafío Adventure Company. We look forward to seeing you on your next adventure! 🌿

How much does Whitewater Rafting Sarapiqui Class 3-4 from La Fortuna cost?
+
Prices start at $122 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in La Fortuna usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Whitewater Rafting Sarapiqui Class 3-4 from La Fortuna take?
+
Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in La Fortuna is not rushed.
Is Whitewater Rafting Sarapiqui Class 3-4 from La Fortuna worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 76 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 136 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in La Fortuna, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Whitewater Rafting Sarapiqui Class 3-4 from La Fortuna?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Whitewater Rafting Sarapiqui Class 3-4 from La Fortuna suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 13. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 6-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Whitewater Rafting Sarapiqui Class 3-4 from La Fortuna?
+
Around 48 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in La Fortuna can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in La Fortuna and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Whitewater Rafting Sarapiqui Class 3-4 from La Fortuna start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central La Fortuna within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in La Fortuna?
+
On Outty we rank every La Fortuna experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Upper Balsa River White Water Rafting Class 3/4 in Costa Rica, North Fields Cafe: Craft Specialty Coffee and Chocolate Tour, Canyoning Adventure Rappelling Waterfalls in Arenal Volcano. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit La Fortuna?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in La Fortuna?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
