A must-do
This was, hands down, the best experience I’ve had on a trip. The staff are super knowledgeable - actual biologists - who tell you about dolphins and other sea creatures ahead of the trip. They are so kind and helpful once out at the dive location. My daughter got scared (she’s 8, and while excited, the size of the dolphins got very real, very quickly once in the water), and they offered help and comfort to her to make her feel safe and engaged. They had plenty cold drinks which they readily offered to ensure no one got dehydrated. They were concerned primarily with safety of guests and dolphins. They did not bait dolphins with food and were concerned that we were only swimming with pods that were out for fun (no mamas with babies). Truly a magical experience and made all the better by the incredible staff. If I could give it 6 stars I would.

The best experience ever!
Words cannot describe how beautiful this experience is. All of the guides (Jemma especially!) were just so knowledgeable and created such a magical experience. We took turns in smaller groups getting in the water with the dolphins and had plenty of time to see them - it's just so special to get to play with dolphins on their own terms, in their own space/ home. Highly recommend this tour! The focus on respecting the animals is so evident and important and it really was an honor to get to share space for a few hours with such incredible beings. And please never swim with captive dolphins. It's horrible for them.

Nice tour guide but no dolphins
Me and my girlfriend took this trip on my birthday. I was looking forward to this being the highlight of my trip to PV. I did four events this weekend they all went great. All started off well with this event until… you start with a good in depth 20 min lesson on the wildlife and what to expect. But after that our boat was not ready for departure. We had to wait nearly 45 mins after the class to finally board. Our tour guide was a lovely, smart woman that made us feel welcome and comfortable. Booking this doesn’t guarantee interaction with dolphins which I was prepared for. So if you’re willing to GAMBLE your money on a two hour boat ride in the ocean so be it. We seen about four dolphins for a couple of seconds. After we gave up looking for dolphins the tour guide said we can jump in the water if we want. So we all jumped in a swam for a few minutes. She sung me happy birthday which was pretty nice. All and all I was a little disappointed but just know you’re gambling with your money. I’m sure it would’ve been amazing if we got the chance to swim with the dolphins.

An Unforgettable Dolphin Experience
It was such a fun experience! The presentation beforehand was very educational, and Jema was so knowledgeable, kind, positive, and accommodating. She’s been doing this for 23 years, so we felt completely at ease throughout the tour. Seeing the wild dolphins was amazing! It felt like we were following them in their natural habitat, and some even came to swim and play with us. Everything happened organically, which made it even more special. Caesar was also a great captain, and the two of them made the whole experience so enjoyable. Highly recommend this tour, it was absolutely worth it!

Highly recommend!
We had an amazing time seeing the dolphins in their natural habitat and even being close to them in the water! Our guide, Gemma, and captain of the boat are professional marine biologists and very familiar with the various groups of dolphins we encountered. I highly recommend this tour and will be doing it again next time we are in PV!

Why this scores 83
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Watch and Swim with Dolphins in the Wild: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Puerto Vallarta.
How much does Watch and Swim with Dolphins in the Wild cost?
+
Prices start at $105 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Puerto Vallarta usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Watch and Swim with Dolphins in the Wild take?
+
Plan for about 3.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Puerto Vallarta is not rushed.
Is Watch and Swim with Dolphins in the Wild worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 83 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 725 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most highly reviewed in Puerto Vallarta, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Watch and Swim with Dolphins in the Wild?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Watch and Swim with Dolphins in the Wild suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Watch and Swim with Dolphins in the Wild?
+
Around 254 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Puerto Vallarta can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Puerto Vallarta and add a light layer if any part of the 3.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Watch and Swim with Dolphins in the Wild start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Puerto Vallarta within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Puerto Vallarta?
+
On Outty we rank every Puerto Vallarta experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Winner 2026 Downtown Vallarta Food Tour with Vallarta Food Tours, Signature Taco Tour in PV with Vallarta Eats, Food & Mixology Tour:Tequila,Tacos, Mezcal and Agave Cocktails. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Puerto Vallarta?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Puerto Vallarta?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
