Reindeer Fun
Relaxing, informative and fun. Easy registration and good communication before the tour. We had no problems finding and driving to the Aurora Borealis Basecamp Activity Center. Beautiful outdoor setting. Ahme, the reindeer handler and guide, knows her reindeer. You can tell she enjoys what she does as a reindeer handler, cares for the animals well, and enjoys sharing stories and fun facts about each of the reindeer. The walk was enjoyable. We got to help feed the reindeer and take pictures and videos. Highly Recommend this tour.

Walking with Reindeer is great for everyone!
The ride out to Aurora basin is beautiful with very scenic views! We showed up and were greeted with amazing hospitality! Our guide allowed us to start early as we arrived early. She showed us the reindeer we would be walking (Alis). Our guide was very informative on reindeer and answered our questions! Im sorry to say I do not remember our guides name, but she is a young woman from New Hampshire; if you get her you are in for a treat! Alis was very friendly and allowed us to set the pace of the walk. She was sweet and didn't mind when we guided her down the correct path. The walk was the perfect amount of time; not too short but not too long either. At the end we got to see how funny the reindeer are as another reindeer (Hank) jumped in the pin that Alis was supposed to stay in (unsure how he accomplished this, I assume he has hops). Our guide had to move him back to his own pin. It was a truly wonderful experience! 10/10 would recommend!

Very Misleading
I made the reservation based on some other tours I had taken. They picked me up at my hotel and brought me back after the tour was over. After I signed up for this one, I received an email telling me it was an hours trip out of town and I had to have my own transportation to get there. I didn't have a vehicle to get there so I called them to cancel the tour. They told me they didn't give refunds for any reason. I just lost that money. Be very aware if you sign up for this tour you will need your own transportation.

Reindeer in the snow!
Walking the reindeer was included in our package for Borealis Basecamp. And it was so much fun! Ahmae, our guide was knowledgeable and passionate. Her love of the reindeer was so contagious! We were there on a cold a snowy day, and the weather gear provided by Basecamp Adventures was perfect!

Check the weather
We absolutely loved our tour except that it was -40 F and it was difficult for us to walk the entire trail. Check the weather in advance and opt out for « Meet and Greet » option which is more affordable and allows you to meet and pet a reindeer. I would also recommend booking directly through Aurora Borealis Base Camp.

Why this scores 40
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Walking with Reindeer Experience: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Fairbanks.
How much does Walking with Reindeer Experience cost?
+
Prices start at $85 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Fairbanks usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Walking with Reindeer Experience take?
+
Plan for about 1 hour from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Fairbanks is not rushed.
Is Walking with Reindeer Experience worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 40 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.2/5 across 13 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Fairbanks, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Walking with Reindeer Experience?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is Walking with Reindeer Experience suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Walking with Reindeer Experience?
+
Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Fairbanks can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Fairbanks and add a light layer if any part of the 1-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Walking with Reindeer Experience start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Fairbanks within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Fairbanks?
+
Fairbanks is the aurora capital of interior Alaska: heated viewing lodges, late-night chase tours, Arctic Circle day drives up the Dalton Highway, dog sledding and summer riverboat cruises. On Outty we rank every Fairbanks experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Northern Lights - Aurora with FREE Photos - Arctic Night Tours, Dog Sledding and Mushing Experience in North Pole, Fairbanks Ice Fishing Expedition in a Heated Cabin with Fish Cookout. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Fairbanks?
+
Late August to April for aurora, June to August for midnight-sun river trips. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Fairbanks?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
