Grateful Grandma and first time surfer
I am older woman and first time surfer. Booked for one hour private lesson with Kahu surfing School. The instructor, Mr. Jameson did a great job teaching me the basics and getting me safely riding a bunch of waves and I was able to stand up. I really appreciated how friendly and accommodating he was. Thanks Jameson and Kahu Surfing school for creating memory for me to share it with my grandkids. Eagerly waiting for the videos and pictures

AVOID AT ALL COSTS -- miserable
As a gift I got my step daughter, who was going to be visiting Hawaii, an hour surf lesson from this place, based on the reviews. However, ten minutes into the lesson, I got a text from her saying "this is a very odd experience. The guy is super angry." I messaged the company to ask to have someone call me to talk about this experience, and they replied with the owners number and asked me to call him. I did, he was very gruff and said he'd call me back. I never got a call back. However I did start getting these messages from him. There is a review, it likely will be the one before mine, from a Greta whose experience sounds very similar to my step daughter's experience. Our conversation is in the photos attached to this review. The way he talks to people both over text and in person is very unprofessional. I would not recommend ruining your time in Hawaii with this miserable human.

Amazing First Surfing Experience with Moki!
My wife and I had an incredible first-time surfing experience thanks to our instructor, Moki. From the moment we hit the beach, Moki was supportive, energetic, respectful, and incredibly kind. He made sure that no matter what, we were able to get up and ride a wave—something we didn’t think would happen on our first try! Moki stayed by our side the entire session, pulling us out to the waves, checking in constantly for safety, and giving us clear, motivating guidance. With his help, both of us were able to stand up and catch waves multiple times, which made the whole experience unforgettable. Although our session started about 45 minutes later than originally scheduled, we quickly realized it was because Moki wanted us to have the best conditions possible—and he absolutely delivered. The wait was 100% worth it for the value and experience we received. We truly got our money’s worth and then some. We can’t recommend this surf school enough for first-time surfers. Ask for Moki—you won’t regret it!

Business owner is highly unethical. Horrible communicator and outright rude. Save your money and find a better surf school in the area.

Claimed I wasn't on the schedule, said they'd refund my money, did not
Avoid this company I booked a surf lesson with Kahu Surf School for my daughter. The booking was made on 10/26/2023 and paid for at the time. The lesson was scheduled for 6/27/2024. When we arrived for the lesson we were told we were not on the schedule, despite having the a receipt with confirmation number. After the person at the desk called the owner, they said they had changed their reservation system and forgotten to copy us over. They offered little help and just said they would refund our money. On 7/11/2024, they had not issued a refund so I sent an email. They did not respond. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau on 7/16/2024. On 8/15/2024 the BBB informed me that Kahu Surf School had not responded so they were closing the complaint as a "no response" and the complaint would be visible for three years. I contacted my credit card company and explained the situation, and despite the transaction being so old, they issued a chargeback. My concern is that Kahu Surf School took my money, held it for 8 months, did not deliver the service, and then clearly had no intention of returning my money. Certainly taking someone's money, canceling your service, and refusing to return the money, is illegal behavior. This company should be investigated; are they ripping off other tourists as well?

Why this scores 41
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Waikiki 2 Hours Private Guided Surf Lesson: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Oahu.
How much does Waikiki 2 Hours Private Guided Surf Lesson cost?
+
Prices start at $461 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Oahu usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Waikiki 2 Hours Private Guided Surf Lesson take?
+
Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Oahu is not rushed.
Is Waikiki 2 Hours Private Guided Surf Lesson worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 41 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.7/5 across 9 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Oahu, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Waikiki 2 Hours Private Guided Surf Lesson?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Waikiki 2 Hours Private Guided Surf Lesson suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Waikiki 2 Hours Private Guided Surf Lesson?
+
Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Oahu can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Oahu and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Waikiki 2 Hours Private Guided Surf Lesson start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Oahu within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Oahu?
+
On Outty we rank every Oahu experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Oahu: Full or Half Day Grand Circle Island Tour, Oahu Small-Group Circle Island Tour with Turtle Snorkeling, Pearl Harbor Remembered Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Oahu?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Oahu?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
