  3. Bimmah Sinkhole

Bimmah Sinkhole is a water-filled depression, structurally a sinkhole, in the limestone of eastern Muscat Governorate in the Sultanate of Oman. A lake of turquoise waters, it is 50 m by 70 m wide and approximately 20 m deep. It is only about 600 m away from the sea, between the coastal towns of Ḑibāb and Bimmah. The sinkhole was formed by a collapse of the surface layer due to dissolution of the underlying limestone. However, locals believe that it was created by a meteorite, ‘Hawaiyat Najm’, which translates to ‘The Falling Star’ in Arabic, and hence the name. To preserve the sinkhole, the local municipality developed a park, Hawiyat Najm Park , around it, along with a stairway leading down to the lake.

Unbelievable Hike and Swim!

One of the best experiences of our Oman trip! We booked the Wadi Shab and Bimmah Sinkhole tour through Viator, and our guide Abdullah was incredible. He was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and made the entire experience enjoyable from start to finish. We started the hike around 10am and finished around 1:30–2pm. It was incredibly hot, but Abdullah made sure we took plenty of water breaks and never felt rushed. The hike itself was beautiful, but spending time swimming in the water and exploring the caves at the end made it completely worth it! We also really appreciated the smaller group size, which made the experience feel much more personal and relaxed. Abdullah did a great job of keeping everyone together, explaining things along the way, and making sure we were comfortable throughout the day. The transportation was also very comfortable, which was definitely appreciated after the hike! By far one of the highlights of our trip to Oman and something I would highly, highly recommend. Wadi Shab is absolutely worth experiencing, and having a great guide like Abdullah made it even better!

Good communication

So the tour actually canceled but I decided to leave a 5-star review because of how well the company communicated. They also pushed me into renting my own vehicle and my trip to Oman turned out better than it would have without the car!

Response from the operator: Dear Andrey, Thank you very much for your kind 5-star review and for appreciating our communication. We are sorry that the group tour could not operate on your selected date because the minimum number of participants was not reached. At the same time, we are very happy to hear that you decided to rent a car and that this made your trip around Oman even better. Thank you again for your understanding and for taking the time to share your feedback. We truly appreciate it and hope to welcome you on one of our tours in the future.

10/10 would recommend

We did the Wadi Shab + Bimmah sink hole tour with our exceptional guide Qais who had great knowledge and exceptional enthusiasm for his work. He gave us spot on information about what to expect during the hike - it was quite hot which made the hike even more challenging but Qais made sure his group was comfortable, well hydrated and well looked after. Bonus, he has an amazing sense of humour :) The pick up was smooth, perfect communication from Qais, who also dropped off an item I had forgotten in his van. Thank you so much Qais, your tour was the highlight of our trip.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your Wadi Shab & Bimmah Sinkhole tour and that Qais helped make it such a memorable experience. His knowledge, enthusiasm, and sense of humor are qualities that our guests often appreciate, and we will be sure to share your kind words with him. We are especially pleased to hear that you felt well informed, comfortable, and well looked after throughout the day, particularly in the challenging summer conditions. It is also great to know that the pickup, communication, and assistance with your forgotten item met your expectations. Thank you for choosing us and for taking the time to share your experience. We hope to welcome you back to Oman again in the future for more unforgettable adventures!

Wadi Shab and Bimmah Sinkhole Group Full Day Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Muscat.

How much does Wadi Shab and Bimmah Sinkhole Group Full Day Tour cost?

+

Prices start at $65 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Muscat usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Wadi Shab and Bimmah Sinkhole Group Full Day Tour take?

+

Plan for about 9 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Muscat is not rushed.

Is Wadi Shab and Bimmah Sinkhole Group Full Day Tour worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 93 out of 100, which we label "90+ Club". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 436 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most highly reviewed in Muscat, and how flexible the cancellation terms are. Scoring 90 or above puts it in the Outty 90+ Club, the top tier of everything we rank.

Can I cancel or reschedule Wadi Shab and Bimmah Sinkhole Group Full Day Tour?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Wadi Shab and Bimmah Sinkhole Group Full Day Tour suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 7. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 9-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Wadi Shab and Bimmah Sinkhole Group Full Day Tour?

+

Around 153 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Muscat can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Muscat and add a light layer if any part of the 9-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Wadi Shab and Bimmah Sinkhole Group Full Day Tour start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Muscat within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Muscat?

+

On Outty we rank every Muscat experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Half-Day Private Muscat City Tour - Top Landmarks in Just 4 Hours, Daymaniyat Islands Snorkeling Sharing Trip, Snorkeling Adventure to Daymaniat Islands. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Muscat?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Muscat?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
