Ron was our tour guide and was very friendly and knowledgeable. A perfect day visiting 2 vineyards, shopping local shops and having lunch in a lovely garden restaurant. Ending with a boat cruise on the Danube, relaxing with a cup of coffee. Wonderful day trip!!

Escape to the Wachau Valley on this tour that you should definitely take.

This day trip to the Wachau Valley from Vienna was superb and something everyone should consider if you have a free day and want to get out of the city. Tim was our guide and he was extremely knowledgeable about the region, the history, and the wines. He was also flexible in adding an additional route at the end since none of us had pressing schedules. We were in a group of about five and were presented with more wine tasting varieties, primarily Grune Veltliner but also Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc, than I had expected. Early in the day we did an hour cruise on the Danube which was a welcome escape from the Summer heat. We also had time in the middle to explore the village of Durnstein and to have lunch at a great restaurant (lunch is paid for by the traveller). We stopped at two or three vineyards during the trip and had a full plate of charcuterie (included in the trip) late in the afternoon to go along with even more wine. Overall it was a full and very pleasant day. Tim was great!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback! We’re delighted to hear you had such an enjoyable day exploring the Wachau Valley and that Tim helped make the experience special. It’s great to know you enjoyed the variety of wines, the scenery, and the relaxed pace of the day. We truly appreciate your recommendation! Feel free to tag us on our social media platforms (Instagram @viennaexplorer; Facebook “Vienna Explorer”) to share your photos and memories. We would love to welcome you back at some time in the future :) Best regards, Vienna Explorer Team

One of Austria’s Most Beautiful Regions

Wachau Valley was one of the highlights of our Austrian holiday. The combination of rolling vineyards, picturesque villages, historic castle ruins, and the Danube River made for an unforgettable day. Dürnstein was especially charming, and the local wines were excellent. Whether you’re interested in history, wine, or simply beautiful scenery, this is a day trip I’d highly recommend. It’s the perfect escape from the city and a must-do when visiting Austria. The private tour was the best and value for money.

Response from the operator: Thank you for sharing such a lovely review! We're delighted to hear that your day in the Wachau Valley was a highlight of your trip. It’s wonderful to know you enjoyed the landscape, local culture, and the personalized experience of your private tour. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back for another memorable journey in Austria! Wachau Valley Small-Group Tour and Wine Tasting from Vienna: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Vienna.

How much does Wachau Valley Small-Group Tour and Wine Tasting from Vienna cost?

    +

Prices start at $235 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Vienna usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Wachau Valley Small-Group Tour and Wine Tasting from Vienna take?

    +

Plan for about 8.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Vienna is not rushed.

Is Wachau Valley Small-Group Tour and Wine Tasting from Vienna worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 88 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 640 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most highly reviewed in Vienna, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Wachau Valley Small-Group Tour and Wine Tasting from Vienna?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Wachau Valley Small-Group Tour and Wine Tasting from Vienna suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Wachau Valley Small-Group Tour and Wine Tasting from Vienna?

    +

Around 224 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Vienna can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Vienna and add a light layer if any part of the 8.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Wachau Valley Small-Group Tour and Wine Tasting from Vienna start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Vienna within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Vienna?

    +

On Outty we rank every Vienna experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Authentic Vienna Food Tour inc. lunch, street food, 3 drinks, Vienna Food Tour: Coffeehouses, Markets, Lunch & Street Food, Budapest Small-Group Day Trip from Vienna. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Vienna?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Vienna?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
