    Chasing Costa Rica

We were picked up on time (actually early). Kevin was an excellent guide. Very personable and knowledgeable. He made sure everyone was safe and looked after. Our driver did an excellent job getting us to each location safely. We were fortunate to have a small group which I think made the experience better!!! We enjoyed a nice lunch and even saw some monkeys and toucan in the rainforest. This is a pretty long day but was worth it!

    Great Tour, Wonderful Guide

I’m giving this tour 4 out of 5 stars, mainly because I unfortunately became very motion sick and wasn’t able to experience the entire tour. That said, I would definitely still recommend it. I’m very prone to motion sickness, and the drive to Rincón de la Vieja really affected me. Nobody else became sick, and this could happen to me on any excursion. If you’re also prone to motion sickness, I recommend taking medication beforehand and asking to sit in the front. I felt so sick that I missed the first hike. The staff at Rincón de la Vieja National Park were incredibly kind and actually let me lie down and sleep in their office while my family continued. It rained during their hike, so they didn’t see much wildlife, but they said it was very lush, interesting, and definitely worthwhile. Once I started feeling better, we visited Oropéndola Waterfall, which was beautiful. Because of the rain, the water was brown instead of its usual turquoise and we couldn’t swim, but it was still absolutely worth seeing. Walking across the bridge to the waterfall was one of the highlights for me. We then had lunch at a nice restaurant with a traditional Costa Rican meal before heading to the hot springs. I still wasn’t feeling up to the hot springs, so instead I did a nearby hike where we saw four additional waterfalls, which was a great alternative. Our guide, Adalberto, was extremely funny, friendly, and wonderful throughout the day. I also really appreciated how attentive the driver was once he realized I wasn’t feeling well. He immediately moved me to the front, gave me a pillow, and made sure I was comfortable. Overall, I definitely recommend this excursion. I just wish I hadn’t gotten motion sick because I would have loved to experience the entire tour!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for taking the time to share your detailed experience with us! We’re happy to hear that, despite not feeling well, you were able to enjoy the rest of the activities and that Adalberto and our driver were attentive and supportive throughout the day. We’ll be sure to share your kind words with them! We’re sorry to hear that you experienced motion sickness during the drive, although unfortunately this is something beyond our control and can happen unexpectedly, especially to those who are more prone to it. We truly appreciate your helpful recommendation for future travelers who may experience motion sickness, as taking medication beforehand can certainly make the journey more comfortable. Thank you again for recommending the tour, and we hope to welcome you back to Costa Rica for another adventure—this time feeling your very best! Pura Vida! Native's Way

    Felipe and Frank were amazing

The trip was amazing! Frank our driver and Felipe our tour guide took care of us the whole day. Felipe was very knowledgeable and told us a lot about the culture and the hike. They were able to drop us off for breakfast for the trip too! We were able to swim in the waterfall, hot springs and got a mud bath! Felt amazing. Would recommend this to all I know and would do it again! Thanks Felipe and Frank!

Response from the operator: We’re so happy to hear that you had such an amazing day with Frank and Felipe! It’s wonderful to know they took great care of you throughout the entire tour and that Felipe’s knowledge of Costa Rican culture and the hike added to your experience. We’re glad you enjoyed all the activities and that the breakfast stop helped make the journey even more enjoyable. It sounds like you made the most of the adventure! Thank you for your recommendation and for taking the time to recognize Frank and Felipe. We’ll be sure to share your kind words with them. Volcano Hike, Waterfall Swim & Hot Springs Combo on Rincon de la Vieja: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Playa Hermosa.

How much does Volcano Hike, Waterfall Swim & Hot Springs Combo on Rincon de la Vieja cost?

    +

Prices start at $110 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Playa Hermosa usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Volcano Hike, Waterfall Swim & Hot Springs Combo on Rincon de la Vieja take?

    +

Plan for about 12 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Playa Hermosa is not rushed.

Is Volcano Hike, Waterfall Swim & Hot Springs Combo on Rincon de la Vieja worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 83 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 784 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most highly reviewed in Playa Hermosa, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Volcano Hike, Waterfall Swim & Hot Springs Combo on Rincon de la Vieja?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Volcano Hike, Waterfall Swim & Hot Springs Combo on Rincon de la Vieja suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 12-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Volcano Hike, Waterfall Swim & Hot Springs Combo on Rincon de la Vieja?

    +

Around 274 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Playa Hermosa can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Playa Hermosa and add a light layer if any part of the 12-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Volcano Hike, Waterfall Swim & Hot Springs Combo on Rincon de la Vieja start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Playa Hermosa within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Playa Hermosa?

    +

On Outty we rank every Playa Hermosa experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Sloth Wildlife Experience, Coffee, Chocolate & Waterfall, Guachipelin Adventure Volcano Zipline River Tubing Combo, Adventure in Volcano Combo Tour! - Zip Line, Waterfall, Hot Springs and More. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Playa Hermosa?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Playa Hermosa?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
