Pick-up at 09:30 Hrs from your Hotel and drive to visit to Death hostel with your guide. Mukti Bhavan provides accommodation to those who wish to breathe their last in Varanasi. Sounds strange, doesn’t it ? The fact that 15,000-odd people have died at Mukti Bhavan ever since its inception might help you grasp the reality of this phenomenon.Hindus believe that the one who dies in Varanasi attains moksha, or salvation. Dying in Varanasi is believed to help the soul break out of the endless cycle of birth and death.Though these beliefs are highly debatable, every year, hordes of believers flock to this holy city, hoping to attain redemption in death here. Most of these are old, retired people who are expecting death and wish to embrace it in the holy land of Kashi (Varanasi).

Complete scam!
I was disappointed by this experience because it was absolutely not what was advertised. I paid for a visit to Mukti Bhavan, the famous death hostel. However, I was taken to Mumukshu Bhavan, which is an old age home and where there is maybe one death every ten years, as the Manager himself admitted. Also the round trip from the hotel took 1 h 45 min, instead of the 4 hour tour that was advertised. When I complained to the local tour company, the owner, Vivek, lied to me saying that Mukti Bhavan and Mumukshu Bhavan were two names for the same place, which is a total lie. When I showed him the street address for Mukti Bhavan, which clearly shows that it is a different place, he dtopped communicating with me. This tour is a scam. Save your money and ask your hotel reception to contact Mukti Bhavan on your behalf if you are interested.
Response from the operator: Dear Ms. Amrita, Greetings from Tour Varanasi !!! Thank you for writing a valuable review. Please note that death hostels remains shut when there is no patient in there. On the day of your visit it was shut and thus our guide took you to the next place where people check-in to die which is called Mumukshu Bhavan. However, considering your feedback we shall only operate this booking when mukti Bhaav is operational and have people living in on the day of visit. Apologies and hope to see you serve you someday soon. Have a wonderful time ahead. Regards, Vimal Kumar

Spiritual and thought provoking
I was interested to see the only place I'm aware of in the world where people can go with the specific intention of having their spiritual needs prioritised at the moment of their physical death. Although the hostel was empty at the actual time of my visit, I understand over 40,000 people have done this at Mukti Bhawan since its inception in the early 1900's. The manager, Mr Dubey, was charming and informative and the experience of simply having visited this unique place was satisfying and thought provoking. My guide, Chandan Yadav, spoke excellent English and was a treasure trove of local cultural and historical points of interest. In fact, he was so good I hired him all over again for more exploration of Varanasi the next day!! Thank you ... all in all, a wonderful visit.

Village Tour & Death Hostel Tour
Our guide was professional and on time. He picked us up at our hotel and took us on both occasions safely to the destinations. For the death hostel it was informative and we learnt a lot. We also visited the Agori Ashram which was also insightful. For the village tour we got picked up in a very nice heated car and taken with care to the village were we learnt so much. Our guide was well informed and made us feel comfortable and happy! Super grateful thank you! We are two foreigners who highly recommend this company!
Response from the operator: Dear Guest, Greetings from Tour Varanasi !!! Many thanks for taking out time in writing this valuable review. We are happy that you enjoyed your tours and liked our services. We shall pass your appreciation and thanks to all the concerns who made your tour a memorable and worthy one. With such a wonderful review, our Tour Varanasi team will be encouraged to achieve a higher level of services. Happy trips. Richa Sharma Manager Guest Relations

Why this scores 63
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Visit to Death Hotel in Varanasi: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Varanasi.
How much does Visit to Death Hotel in Varanasi cost?
+
Prices start at $36 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Varanasi usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Visit to Death Hotel in Varanasi take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Varanasi is not rushed.
Is Visit to Death Hotel in Varanasi worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 63 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.4/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Varanasi, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Visit to Death Hotel in Varanasi?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Visit to Death Hotel in Varanasi suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Visit to Death Hotel in Varanasi?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Varanasi can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Varanasi and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Visit to Death Hotel in Varanasi start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Varanasi within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Varanasi?
+
On Outty we rank every Varanasi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Hidden Secrets of Varanasi: Vibrant Tradition (Guided Tour), Varanasi full day guided tour | Ranked 1 Tour Operator on Viator, A Journey of A lifetime. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Varanasi?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Varanasi?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
