What you'll see and do

  1. In the morning mist of the countryside, amongst olive trees, Mediterranean pines and tall cypresses we will take advantage of the Golden Hour to shoot photos of the well preserved ancient ruins immersed in the vast park that once was the luxurious villa of the famous Roman emperor Hadrian. In a sort of out of time atmosphere, we will photograph the fantastic swimming pools, buildings, baths, fountains, temples and even a theatre still witnessing the greatness of ancient Rome in terms of architecture, landscaping, and engineering.

  2. Villa d'Este

Then, making a jump in time of about fifteen hundred years (the Hadrian villa was built around 120 a.C. while Villa d'Este works started around 1560) we will proceed to Villa d'Este. Here the photography setting will be completely different, but not less amazing and fascinating than the one of the morning tour. In fact Villa d’Este rooms and ceilings are all adorned by beautiful frescos and painting. From the elegant interiors, we will then go visit the famous lush Italian Garden surrounding the Baroque building to photograph the many fountains, the beautiful grottos, and the manicured park.

Overall, I give this tour a 10/10!

I had a wonderful experience on this tour in early April 2025 with my tour guide, Giulio D'Ercole, who is a professional photographer. He was amazing picking out great vantage points to take pictures, while at the same time letting you choose your own view points. I learned from him techniques I never knew with my camera. Giulio lets you go at your own pace, so you never feel rushed or slowed down making the day a more pleasant experience. We had morning coffee/snacks and lunch at local businesses. The sites are stunning and worth seeing. I highly recommend this tour!

Response from the operator: Helo Chris, First of all, let me say it was a real pleasure meeting and chatting with you. Secondly, thanks a lot for your stellar review on our photo tour to Villa Adriana and Villa d'Este. I am really glad you enjoyed the whole experience, both in terms of photography workshop, history information, locations, and, last but not least, my company. I am sure the technical and creative guidance I gave you during the tour will serve you well in your next trips and photography adventures. In case you should ever come back to Italy, don't forget to contact me directly to organize personalized and tailor made photo tours in other regions of my gorgeous Country. Best regards, Giulio

Wonderful experience, if you’re looking at this tour, do it!

Wonderful tour with fantastic lesson in photography. Giulio quickly assessed my skill level and then provided excellent personalized tips for improving my photography. Also very knowledgeable about the places we visited and gave great recommendations for the rest of my trip. Fantastic day despite the heatwave!

Response from the operator: Dear Davida, Thanks a lot for your very kind and positive review. I do appreciate what you wrote. I am also really glad I could improve your photography skills, make your day interesting, and help you with your trip. As we spoke during the photo tour, in regards to other potential future photo tours you might want to take in Italy in the future, please be aware that starting in December this year I will also be offering multi-day tours, in Rome and Latium, Umbria, Tuscany, and Apulia, three amazing and very photogenic regions in the center and south Italy. These tours will be fully customized holistic multiday journeys, tailored around your wishes, time availability, and budget. If you should be interested in them, I would be more than happy to discuss the different options and itineraries together. In the meantime, thanks again for your wonderful 5-star review. Best regards, Giulio

Wonderful

One of the best tours I had in Italy .The two villas were just wonderful and full of history our tour guide Giulio was perfect he was very informative and a perfect photographer and teacher can’t thank him enough for the wonderful day me and my husband had .

Response from the operator: Dear Zaineb, Thanks a lot for your wonderful review. I am truly glad that both you and Heider enjoyed the tour to Villa Adrians ad Villa d'Este we had together. I am also glad that, especially Heider, improved his photography skills along the tour, with only a few suggestions and tips from my end. From what you showed me, I can say that you surely have brought back home good visual memories of the Villas. In the next days, I will send you some of the photos I shot of you as we were walking together. On a different note, as I told you during our walk, starting in September this year I will also begin offering multi-day tours, in Umbria, Tuscany, and Apulia, three amazing and very photogenic regions in the center and south Italy. Those will be fully customized holistic multiday photography tours also including photo review sessions, and a full-immersion experience in the Italian culture. In fact, we will have wine and food tastings, visits to vineyards, and extra visits to Italian Master Artisans. Such tours will be tailored around my customers' wishes, time availability, and budget. If you are interested, I would be more than happy to send you the different options and itineraries, that will be flexible and decided upon your own priorities. In the meantime, thanks again for your wonderful review, and best regards, Giulio

Great photography learning experience

I learned a tremendous amount that will help me take better photos in the future. Giulio is quite knowledgeable and willing to share that knowledge and passion for photography. Hadrian's Villa and the Villa d'Este are both beautiful sites and I learned a lot about composition, angles, and lighting that I will be able to apply at other places. Giulio is also very personable and it was a fantastic day. I highly recommend his tours.

Response from the operator: Good morning Phill, Thanks a lot for your very good review on my tour to Tivoli, to visit and photograph the Hadrian Villa and Villa d'Este. I am truly happy you learned a lot about photography techniques, during the tour, and I am even happier that what you learned will be used n your next photography adventures, or even at home. Thanks a lot also for recommending my tour to other potential clients that want to come to Rome and learn how to shoot its beauty. As I told you next year I will also offer multi-day tours, in Umbria, Tuscany, and Puglia. Those will be customized holistic multiday photography tours including also photo review sessions, and a full immersion experience in the Italian culture.

Unfortunately you can’t give more than 5 stars

I made the Tour to Tivoli with Giulio which was already the 4. tour which I made with Giulio. After the stunning 3 tours in 2021 it was sure that I will do another tour with him when I come back to Rome. So punctual as always he picked me early in the morning at my hotel from where we drove together to Tivoli which took approximately 45 minutes.. Arriving there the photo tour started. As always I was a bit nervous at the beginning and needed advice. So he was as always very helpful with explanation concerning the settings and the composition of the photos and later he made great suggestions to improve the photos which I took by myself. Additionally he is a very patient teacher also when you don’t understand something immediately. His extremly helpful explanations are given in a way that you keep them in your mind to use them also after the end of the tour. And what was most impressive to see is that you can see how much he loves the photographie and the possibility to share his knowledge (not only about photographie but also about history, the places you visit and so on) with his customers. No question is too much and also no further foto stop if there is something interesting even if it takes more time than expected. To summarize it he is a great teacher and guide, an excellent photographer, a safe driver and a kind and great man. So I highly recommend to book this or any other tour with him! You would miss a wonderful experience and time to see parts of Rome in a unique way. Thanks a lot for everything, Giulio!

Response from the operator: Dear Annette, Thank you so much for your beautiful and heartwarming review. Please believe me when I say it was my absolute pleasure to guide you again in the art and pleasure of the Art of Photography, this time to capture all the magic and beauty of Villa Adriana and Villa d'Este. Furthermore, I would like to tell you that it is always very pleasant to spend time with you, venturing out to shoot all the charming places that Italy offers to its visitors. Talking about it, please do not forget to contact me if you should ever come back to Italy again in the next future. In fact, I am now organizing customized holistic multiday photography tours traveling from Rome to Umbria and Tuscany, or even to other Regions, such as Puglia (Apulia). These tours will include also wine and food tastings, visits to vineyards, and to Italian Master Artisans. Such tours will be tailored around my customers' wishes, time availability, and budgets and will offer not only spectacular photo sessions, including photo review sessions but also a full immersion experience in Italian culture. In the meanwhile, thanks again Annette, and best regards, Giulio

Villa Adriana and Villa d'Este Unique Photo Tour and Workshop: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rome.

How much does Villa Adriana and Villa d'Este Unique Photo Tour and Workshop cost?

+

Prices start at $350 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rome usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Villa Adriana and Villa d'Este Unique Photo Tour and Workshop take?

+

Plan for about 7 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rome is not rushed.

Is Villa Adriana and Villa d'Este Unique Photo Tour and Workshop worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 10 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Rome, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Villa Adriana and Villa d'Este Unique Photo Tour and Workshop?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Villa Adriana and Villa d'Este Unique Photo Tour and Workshop suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 16. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 7-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Villa Adriana and Villa d'Este Unique Photo Tour and Workshop?

+

Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rome can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rome and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Villa Adriana and Villa d'Este Unique Photo Tour and Workshop start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rome within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Rome?

+

Rome runs on skip-the-line access. The Colosseum underground, the Vatican before opening, and the catacombs south of the walls all require a licensed operator, and the price gap between the good ones and the rest is smaller than you would expect. We rank by guide credentials, group size and how reliably the promised access actually materialises. On Outty we rank every Rome experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Rome Pasta and Tiramisu Class: Ravioli, Fettuccine & Fine Wine 5*, Pasta Making & Wine Tasting with Dinner in Frascati from Rome, Rome: Pizza & Tiramisu or Gelato Class with Flowing Fine Wine 5*. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Rome?

+

April, May, September and October. August is hot and half the city is shut. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Rome?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
