About this experience
The experience is super relaxed, we start by sitting down and tasting a little bit of Portugal, while I give a brief explanation of what we're going to cook. Cooking while hungry is a bad policy. When we're ready, we put on our aprons and start the teamwork, under my guidance. Some of the ingredients are from my backyard, and I'll take you to see what they are... As we prepare the food, I'll tell some stories about the origins of the ingredients to be used. In the end, we set the table and sat down to savor all the dishes we've prepared. IMPORTANT: If you have any food allergies or follow a specific diet (vegetarian, paleo, vegan, etc ...) let me know as soon as possible so we can prepare in advance all the ingredients needed.

Family cooking class
Our family had a wonderful time with Katiji with her in home Portuguese cooking class! We did the class with our two children ages, 11 and 8. She welcomed everyone and made everyone feel comfortable immediately. She included the kids and everything we did and everyone had a wonderful time! Definitely a highlight of our trip! Highly recommend!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much, Ashley, for your wonderful review! 💛 It was an absolute pleasure to welcome your family into my home. Seeing your children getting involved in the cooking, asking questions and enjoying the experience alongside you made the day even more special. I believe that food has a unique way of bringing generations together, creating memories that last far beyond the meal itself. Knowing that everyone—from the youngest to the adults—felt comfortable and had a great time truly means the world to me. Thank you for your kind recommendation and for making me part of your family's journey through Portugal. I'm honoured that our time together became one of the highlights of your trip. You'll always be welcome back at my table. ✨🇵🇹 💛

Tasty, engaging, insightful experience!
This was a one-of-a kind and amazing experience! I was traveling solo and Katija made me feel so welcome and was very engaging. She is a wonderful person. My cooking skills are definitely better too. The food was delicious and very healthy, which is so nice to have when traveling and dining out frequently. I 100 percent recommend this experience.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your kind words! 🌿 It was such a joy to welcome you and share this experience together. I’m so happy you felt at home, enjoyed the healthy and delicious food, and left with a few new cooking skills too! ✨ Wishing you many more wonderful travels, and you’re always welcome back for more flavors of Portugal. 🍷🥘💛

Do Not Book - Treated Rudely
Horrible experience. Left this experience very upset and overwhelmed after being treated very uncomfortably by the host. When I initially booked this tour, I was excited to do such a unique activity, as vegan/vegetarian cooking classes aren’t widely offered. This tour is 30 mins outside of Lisbon, which we did not mind the distance, as we were excited to do this cooking class. The host mentioned that we were cooking in her home - out of respect for her home, I confirmed with her if she was ok with us taking pictures and recording - and the host confirmed yes, she was ok with that. After receiving confirmation, I took pictures and videos, as we were very excited to take this class and wanted to have photos for my memories, as I was celebrating my birthday. The host also shared facts about Portugal and the area we were in, which I was taking notes, like I do on all my tours. Upon my recording and note-taking the host rudely claimed she was uncomfortable I was recording and note taking which came to me as a shock since she confirmed she was ok with it and never expressed that she did not want us to use our cameras or phones. I later learned she was upset because she claimed it disturbed the “flow” of the experience. As a customer I was very excited annd enjoying the moment up until that rude encounter, which made me extremely uncomfortable with how the host acted towards and I no longer wanted to do the activity anymore. I was very confused as to why she was upset and bothered that I was taking notes. Upon mentioning we were going to leave, as we no longer felt welcomed during this activity, she offered to pay our uber for the inconvenience and never followed through, as I messaged her requesting this since it was offered by her. What was supposed to be a fun experience for my birthday, turned into a completely ruined moment. Do not waste your time with book with this experience.
Response from the operator: I feel the need to respond clearly and respectfully, especially considering the nature of your review. This experience -not a tour- takes place in my private home, which has been in my family for generations — a space I open with generosity and care to share authentic Portuguese food, stories, and connection. It is an intimate and respectful environment, and I trust guests to approach it with the same presence. Although you asked if you could take some photos, what followed was constant phone use, including filming me while I was speaking, and typing continuously on your phone. One thing is to discreetly capture moments; another is to behave as if you're documenting a class, while completely disengaging from the energy and flow of the experience. When I gently expressed my discomfort, your reaction was extremely negative — even going so far as to ask me to leave my own space so you could speak in private with your sister. That level of entitlement in someone else’s home is simply not acceptable. At that point, I chose to cancel the experience and immediately issued a full refund via the platform. This is not a public cooking studio — it’s my family home. And while I am always welcoming, I also protect the integrity of the space and the well-being of all guests. I had offered, out of goodwill, to call you an Uber — which you declined — and later requested reimbursement, since the experience was booked via Viator, I cannot process such a refund outside the platform. Inappropriate actions and behaviors when visiting a private home require common sense, respect, awareness of the space, and the spirit of the experience. Needless to say, the overwhelming majority of reviews and experiences I host stand in full contrast to your account and behaviour. I wish you more clarity and care in your future travels.

One on one cooking
This class was my favorite of all the experiences I booked. I was a solo traveler and blessed to have had Katija all to myself in her beautiful home. She is inspirational and her meals were simple yet delicious! Her place is gorgeous and the conversations we had I absolutely cherish. This is a very special curated experience from start to finish. Please do not hesitate to book her class, it was so insightful and I got to learn a lot about Portugals gastronomy and history from her knowledge. I look forward to creating these delicious meals in my own home ❤️
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your kind words! It was truly a pleasure to welcome you into my home and share stories, flavors, and laughter together. I'm so happy to hear that the experience stayed with you and that you felt inspired — that means the world to me. I hope the recipes bring back good memories when you recreate them in your own kitchen. Wishing you many more meaningful journeys and delicious meals! ❤️✨

Why this scores 63
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Vegan/Vegetarian Tastes of Portugal: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Lisbon.
How much does Vegan/Vegetarian Tastes of Portugal cost?
+
Prices start at $39 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Lisbon usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Vegan/Vegetarian Tastes of Portugal take?
+
Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Lisbon is not rushed.
Is Vegan/Vegetarian Tastes of Portugal worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 63 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.5/5 across 8 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Lisbon, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Vegan/Vegetarian Tastes of Portugal?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Vegan/Vegetarian Tastes of Portugal suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Vegan/Vegetarian Tastes of Portugal?
+
Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Lisbon can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Lisbon and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Vegan/Vegetarian Tastes of Portugal start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Lisbon within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Lisbon?
+
On Outty we rank every Lisbon experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Lisbon City Center Tour - The Unmissable Lisbon, Sintra Private Trip from Lisbon Customizable Dreamlike Experience, True 4Hour Private Tuk Tuk Tour: Discover Lisbon with a Local!. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Lisbon?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Lisbon?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
