About this experience
Enjoy a two-and-a-half-hour adventure on your own private boat. Your Master Captain will guide you safely through the Calibogue on a falling tide to the isle. We’ll stop along the way to look for wild dolphins playing in the sound. We’ll share information about the island, the salt marsh and the surrounding ecosystem. Your Captain is also a Lowcountry Master Naturalist, and will assist you in identifying the various shells, mollusks and other invertebrates to be found on this tour! This is an ideal outing for families and small groups. With up to 6 passengers, there’s plenty of room onboard and a comfortable seat for everyone.

Capt. Mark and Cross Island Cruises - A++
Amazing experience from start to finish! We received text messages the day prior to our excursion noting expected weather and conditions. The messages also gave a few friendly reminders on what to bring with us and where exactly to meet. Communication on the day of the trip included visuals of where we were meeting - an excellent touch! Capt. Mark was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable of the area and answered all of our questions along the way. We had a relaxed trip, visiting different locations to watch dolphins and beachcomb. We could not have had a better trip and look forward to booking again with Cross Island Cruises!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for the wonderful review! It was a pleasure having the family aboard, and I'm thrilled that you enjoyed the experience from start to finish. We put a lot of thought into the little details before and during each trip, so I'm especially glad the weather updates, reminders, meeting information, and photos helped make everything easy and stress-free. Once you're on the boat, my goal is simply to let you relax and enjoy the adventure! I'm so glad we were able to combine dolphin watching with some beachcombing and exploring the Lowcountry. I look forward to having you back again soon!

A must do experience
Captain Mark was outstanding. So knowledgeable of the area and so patient with our group (including 3 energetic young boys). The tour itself was unique - we saw dolphins, tons of starfish, and had a captain to guide us and answer every question. We were also able to avoid storms that day with his ability to work with the weather. Cannot recommend this tour enough!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much, Steph! Absolutely loved the questions and the energy the boys brought to the sandbar. Very glad that the weather worked in our favor, and I'll look forward to you guys coming back soon!

Best dolphin tour!
We had the best time/afternoon with Captain Mark! We learned a lot of interesting things about the island and got to see some amazing views! The kids loved seeing the dolphins! Mark was so sweet with our kids, taking and interacting with them. The sandbar was still not totally visible so he took us to another location to get some shells! We had the best time and will definitely book again!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much, Rachel! It was great having the family out exploring. Very glad we were able to get the kids in front of some dolphin pods and collect some shells during our tour. Looking forward to seeing again soon!

A must when visiting Hilton Head area!!!!!
Great experience. Captain Mark was very nice and knowledgeable of the area. It was great to just have the four of us on the boat and not a huge group. We got to see a good amount of dolphins prior to heading to Vanishing Mile Isle. He also showed us the Dafuskie Lighthouse. Mark took us to a sandbar that is not as commonly used by other shell tours. We found alot of great shells, starfish and hermit crabs. We were the only ones at that sandbar which was awesome! I highly recommend booking Captain Mark and Cross Island Cruises!! Remember to put on your sunscreen ahead of the trip. Depending on weather, the ride can be bumpy but still alot of fun!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for the fantastic review and recommendation! It was a pleasure having your family aboard. I'm so glad we were able to see plenty of dolphins before heading over to sandbar, and that you enjoyed seeing the Lighthouse along the way. One of my favorite parts of the tour is taking guests to quieter sandbars where they can explore without the crowds, so I'm happy you found so many shells, starfish, and hermit crabs, and even had the beach all to yourselves! Thank you again for coming out, and I look forward to seeing you again soon!

Why this scores 73
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Vanishing Mile Isle Beachcomber Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Hilton Head Island.
How much does Vanishing Mile Isle Beachcomber Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $429 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Hilton Head Island usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Vanishing Mile Isle Beachcomber Tour take?
+
Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Hilton Head Island is not rushed.
Is Vanishing Mile Isle Beachcomber Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 73 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 131 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Hilton Head Island, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Vanishing Mile Isle Beachcomber Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Vanishing Mile Isle Beachcomber Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Vanishing Mile Isle Beachcomber Tour?
+
Around 46 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Hilton Head Island can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Hilton Head Island and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Vanishing Mile Isle Beachcomber Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Hilton Head Island within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Hilton Head Island?
+
Hilton Head sells dolphin and sunset cruises out of Broad Creek, kayak and boat trips through Lowcountry salt marsh, bike rentals for the island trail network and shrimping demonstrations. On Outty we rank every Hilton Head Island experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include 2-Hour Hilton Head Guided Kayak Nature Tour, Hilton Head Island Dolphin Boat Cruise, Daufuskie Island Guided History Tour from Hilton Head. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Hilton Head Island?
+
March to May and September to November, warm without peak summer crowds. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Hilton Head Island?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
