    Fun and detailed experience!

Was a good time! Mike was very friendly and knew a lot about the history of the places he showed us. He made sure to personalize the experience a bit based on our specific interests. He always arrived on time(if not earlier) and offered to take pictures too. I would recommend!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your kind review! It was a pleasure showing you around UWS and sharing some of the stories and history that make the neighborhood so special. I'm glad you enjoyed the personalized touches and that I could help you tailor the experience to your interests. Thank you as well for trusting me with your time in NYC and for the recommendation. I hope had a wonderful rest of your trip, and I'd love to welcome you back for another adventure in the future. Safe travels, Mike

    Great Upper Westside experience

Thanks to Mike giving us a spot into New York live in Upper Westside. The stories about this area, about the neighbourhood and all it's wonderful spirit impressed us very much. We enjoed this time very much. His explanatiions about the architecture, how everything was thought through before it was done, whether if it was introducing electricity to the public or if it was how to move people from the brownstones to apartments. We really loved how he explained the way people in new york live or how much thought they put into simple things. Also his explanations about the imigrants and theorie movements were top to understand NY. All his practical tips (we tried to use them today), the stories behind, were great. We also loved the typical new Yorker bagle and the cookies. Of course also the new Yorker hot dog and the supermarkets we've been in. So those were our favorites, but all in all we liked the whole tour and the whole day we've spent together so it is hard to pick a favorite from all of it. Thanks for this amazing guiding!😃

Highly recommend! Highlight of our weekend!

My wife planned this tour as part of her Dad’s 90th Birthday weekend celebration. Since he was born in the Upper West Side she thought that it would be fun to take a 3 hour tour. TBH… my first thought was “a 3 plus hour tour!?!… hmmm “ and then I hoped it didn’t involve a boat called the SS Minnow 🚤…! To get to the point… the tour exceeded all expectations and was the highlight of the weekend! I highly recommend taking this or any of Mike’s tours. The tour was a wonderful mix of learning about what’s here now and also how things came to be what they are. The people, the buildings, the cultures and the economic forces that shaped it all. And everything is presented in an entertaining and engaging manner. Never overly detailed or overly simplistic. Plus… lots of great food! I hope to take future tours on future trips! Thanks again Mike !

    Awesome New York City trip

At the end of March, Mike gave us a tour of the Upper West Side — and I have to say, it was absolutely amazing! His approach and dedication truly impressed us. He shared not only his knowledge but also personal stories, which gave us a much deeper understanding of the city and its people. He showed us how to really see New York, took us for some delicious bagels and incredible hot dogs. It was our first time in the city, and all three of us — my husband, our one-year-old child, and I — were absolutely thrilled. Mike was such an engaged and caring guide, not just during the tour but even afterwards. He checked in on us, asked how we were doing, and helped us find great spots for food. It was fantastic! Thanks again, Mike!

Response from the operator: Thank you, Ewa and Janusz, for such an amazing review! I had a blast with your family — what a fun day exploring the Upper West Side together. And I’m so glad you enjoyed the food (and the spots I recommended after the tour too!). Mathew might just be the cutest guest I’ve ever had — and I was seriously impressed by how he was up for trying everything! That kid’s got a great palate and great taste in parents. Hope we can stay in touch, and I’ll definitely reach out next time I’m in Poland!

    Mike, great host

Mike is an excellent host, he is a great connoisseur of New York history, he gave us in detail how society was formed and how people lived. I show us the traditional places to eat what the local people enjoy eating. It was super!!! Best of all was his punctuality and great willingness to make us feel at ease and enjoy the ride and his knowledge. It is highly recommended Thank you very much Mike, we hope to see you again soon 😊

Upper West Side: Your Guide to Understanding NYC: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for New York.

How much does Upper West Side: Your Guide to Understanding NYC cost?

    +

Prices start at $575 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in New York usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Upper West Side: Your Guide to Understanding NYC take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in New York is not rushed.

Is Upper West Side: Your Guide to Understanding NYC worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 54 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 8 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in New York, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Upper West Side: Your Guide to Understanding NYC?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Upper West Side: Your Guide to Understanding NYC suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Upper West Side: Your Guide to Understanding NYC?

    +

Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in New York can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in New York and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Upper West Side: Your Guide to Understanding NYC start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central New York within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in New York?

    +

New York has more bookable experiences than any other city on Outty, and the quality spread is brutal. Observation decks are commoditised, so we score them on timed-entry reliability and sunset slots. Food tours and borough walks are where the ranking really separates operators, and the top scores in the city all come from small-group guides. On Outty we rank every New York experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Grand Canyon VIP Helicopter Tour, Half-Day Bus Tour of NYC Top Highlights, NYC Bus Tour of Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens: Art, Food & Sports. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit New York?

    +

September to early November, and late April through June. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in New York?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
