    2. La Jolla Cove Bridge Club

This is the La Jolla Cove Bridge Club, and it's a clue as to how La Jolla got to where it is today.

      Pass by without stopping

    3. Ellen Browning Scripps Park

We're walking through Ellen Browning Scripps Park, named for one of the most important figures behind La Jolla's rapid expansion.

    4. See the small, rocky island just off the coast? That's Seal Rock. Thousands of harbor seals and sea lions gather here every day to bask in the sun, rest after catching fish, and, if the season's right, squabble over mates.

      10 minutes here

    5. Coming up on your right is a famous, and curious, La Jolla spot: Children's Pool Beach. Pullover and pause in front.

      10 minutes here

    6. The Wedding Bowl

On your right is Cuvier Park, the most popular place in San Diego to tie the knot. In fact, it's such a beloved destination for soon-to-be-married couples that some call it The Wedding Bowl. Given its picturesque location by the water, I'm sure you can see why.

    7. Ahead, keep right and slow down as you drive. Of course, La Jolla's history didn't begin when humans arrived here. Life on the Pacific coast has been thriving for millions of years.

      10 minutes here

    8. In a few blocks, we're going to see a small building with a long history. It's the La Jolla Woman's Club, founded by - who else? - Ellen Scripps. When the club began in 1901, American women lacked any sort of equality, with no right to vote, and no right to custody of their children.

      10 minutes here

    9. St. James by-The-Sea Episcopal Church

Do you see a peach-colored belltower ahead? That's St. James by-the-Sea Episcopal Church. It dates to 1908 and, like much of La Jolla, owes its existence to Ellen Scripps.

    10. Athenaeum Music and Arts Library

The white Spanish-revival building with terracotta shingles and arched windows is a must for lovers of the arts. It's the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library.

    12. Windansea Beach

Windansea is what’s known as a surf break. Rocky obstructions under the water here cause waves to break and also form those classic barrel-shaped curls that make for radical surfing.

    Solo friendly!

Good experience and helpful for solo travelers with no one to show them around. I utilized the driving tour way more but I am sure the walking tour is equally great.

Response from the operator: Jennifer, great to hear you had a positive experience with the La Jolla Audio Tour Bundle. I’m happy the driving tour worked so well for you, especially as a solo traveler — that’s exactly why I designed these tours to be flexible and easy to follow on your own. If you try the walking tour on your next visit, I hope it enhances your time in La Jolla even more. If you’re interested in more scenic drives and rich histories, check out my Tour of California Self-Guided Driving Bundle, which includes iconic spots like Napa Valley, Yosemite, and beyond. Happy travels!

    Waste of time and money!

This tour was a total waste of time and money. The driving tour overlaps with the walking tour so is a duplication and the website and booking instructions are a joke. Don’t book these tours.

Response from the operator: Myla, I’m truly sorry to hear you didn’t have a positive experience with my La Jolla Audio Tour Bundle. I do offer the driving and walking tours separately, and while three stops overlap, the remaining experiences for both tours are different. Regarding the booking instructions, I apologize for any difficulty you experienced. Could you share more about the issues you faced or any problems that came up? This extra insight will help me better understand the situation. Please feel free to reach out, and I’d be happy to offer a replacement tour or process a refund. I’m available daily from 9 to 6 EST.

Response from the operator: Jan, I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed my Ultimate La Jolla audio tour. Informative but hard to work

We thought it was informative but hard to get started. The walking tour seemed to work better than the driving tour. Loved seeing the sea lions!

Response from the operator: Karin, the walking and driving tours of La Jolla start at The Cave Store, 1325 Coast Blvd, La Jolla. To get the best experience with the driving tour, be sure to follow the app's speed limit and the provided route. I'll check if anything could be improved for easier use. The good news is that the product is valid for a year, so you can give it another go. Let me know if you have any questions!

Ultimate La Jolla Self-Guided Driving & Walking Audio Tour Bundle: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for La Jolla.

How much does Ultimate La Jolla Self-Guided Driving & Walking Audio Tour Bundle cost?

    +

Prices start at $25 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in La Jolla usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Ultimate La Jolla Self-Guided Driving & Walking Audio Tour Bundle take?

    +

Plan for about 1 hour from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in La Jolla is not rushed.

Is Ultimate La Jolla Self-Guided Driving & Walking Audio Tour Bundle worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 50 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.3/5 across 9 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in La Jolla, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Ultimate La Jolla Self-Guided Driving & Walking Audio Tour Bundle?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Ultimate La Jolla Self-Guided Driving & Walking Audio Tour Bundle suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Ultimate La Jolla Self-Guided Driving & Walking Audio Tour Bundle?

    +

Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in La Jolla can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in La Jolla and add a light layer if any part of the 1-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Ultimate La Jolla Self-Guided Driving & Walking Audio Tour Bundle start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central La Jolla within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in La Jolla?

    +

La Jolla is San Diego's best water day: kayak tours into the sea caves, snorkelling with leopard sharks in the ecological reserve, coastal walks with sea lions and sunset sails. On Outty we rank every La Jolla experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Cali Dreaming Electric Bike Tour of La Jolla and Pacific Beach, Incredible Slot Canyons to the Pacific, SoCal Riviera Electric Bike Tour of La Jolla and Mount Soledad. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit La Jolla?

    +

June to September for warm water, year-round for kayaking. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in La Jolla?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
