Hierve el Agua
Diego led us on an incredible hike to Hierve el Agua. It was thrilling, challenging, filled with stunning beauty - an experience we will never forget. Diego is an amazing guide - he shared a wealth of information about Oaxaca (and beyond!), the natural phenomenon of the area and the community it is part of. Diego shared his passion for and the importance of sustainability while also being able to experience the majesty and beauty of Hierve el Agua. We felt like we got an insider's peak into the heart of life here. Our breakfast with a local family was nothing like we have ever experienced before - and was delicious! Our lunch with a family in Teotitlan, of which the matriarch is a master weaver, was just as delicious and welcoming. We were served delicious local dishes cooked by the weaver herself and her wonderful daughter. Afterwards, we were treated to a fascinating demo of how the wool is spun and how the dyes are made using only what is found in nature. We brought one rug but wish we could have more! Our driver was also a wealth of information for the of Oaxacan life, culture and history. Do not miss this tour!

The Gold Standard of Hiking Tours!
Coyote Adventures built and led an amazing tour! The thoughtfulness and coordination that the tour was built with really stood out. Our guide, Mara, was a joy to meet and did an exceptional job showing us Hierve el Agua and the surrounding areas. Any needs were taken care of from a delicious breakfast to water on the trails to lunch. Coyote clearly respects and works to benefit the community by giving context for each stop. We were nervous that the textile stop would be a hard sell but could not have been more wrong! The family clearly cares about their art, are wonderful cooks, and Coyote built the section to educate on Zapotec culture. Overall, this tour is how these sort of activities should look! Would HIGHLY recommend!

Why this scores 67
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Ultimate Hierve el Agua Hike + Textile Art: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Oaxaca City.
How much does Ultimate Hierve el Agua Hike + Textile Art cost?
+
Prices start at $3800 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Oaxaca City usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Ultimate Hierve el Agua Hike + Textile Art take?
+
Plan for about 13 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Oaxaca City is not rushed.
Is Ultimate Hierve el Agua Hike + Textile Art worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 43 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Oaxaca City, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Ultimate Hierve el Agua Hike + Textile Art?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Ultimate Hierve el Agua Hike + Textile Art suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 13-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Ultimate Hierve el Agua Hike + Textile Art?
+
Around 15 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Oaxaca City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Oaxaca City and add a light layer if any part of the 13-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Ultimate Hierve el Agua Hike + Textile Art start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Oaxaca City within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Oaxaca City?
+
On Outty we rank every Oaxaca City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include AUTHENTIC OAXACA CULTURAL FOOD TOUR, eat like a local., Hierve el Agua 2.5 hours, Mitla, Tule, Rugs and Mezcal for a Day, Traditional Oaxaqueña Cooking with Grandma's Recipes. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Oaxaca City?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Oaxaca City?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
