Expert tour guide
Ivan is a great tour guide. He’s been an archaeologist for 30 years and guide for 13- nice he’s Italian with fluent English- We enjoyed spending time with him in Pompeii. He brought the city alive with his commentary and insights. He answered all our questions and displayed great knowledge about the workings of the city back in Roman times. Great expertise presented in an engaging manner. Quality over quantity- Pompeii is immense- he hit highlights thoroughly without overwhelming us and then after gave recommendations where to wander after tour ended. We did three hours with him but went by quickly. Highly recommend!

Informative and insightful tour guide
Ivan proved an excellent tour guide. From his extensive knowledge of Pompeii and working experience at the site he provided great insights into the life and times of the city. He tailored the experience to our interests and was happy answering our many questions. All with professionalism and at times with good humour. Highly recommended. Geoff and Kate

Perfect guide!
Ivan was recommended by friends and he made our entire trip! Not only was he kind, patient and knowledgeable, but he was like a Rockstar of the Archeology sites! There were 6 couples on our tour. He helped us with buying the correct tickets, catching the correct train and making sure we had the best timing to avoid crowded areas. Pompeii is a site that having a private guide is important. You will be very happy you found him!

Highly recommend--a real archaeologist makes the best tour-guide ever!
This was such a great experience, perhaps the best tour-guide experience I've ever had, and I've had many! HIGHLY recommended! My husband, two teenagers, and I toured Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Oplontis with Ivan over two days. He is an incredibly experienced archaeologist who has manged excavations at both Pompeii and Herculaneum, and has lectured at universities. He has in-depth knowledge of ancient history, art history, architecture, and excavation techniques, and he explained everything in a way that was understandable and relevant to what we were seeing. After two days, I know not only more about these sites, but also how to view ancient ruins, and understand what I'm seeing, which I can use at other sites too. He's a great communicator, very flexible and accommodating, both relaxed and attentive--a great person to learn from. He had lots of time for our questions and answered every one with details and evidence--this led to some really interesting conversations. And he was great with both adults and teens, engaging each of us at different moments. He knew his way around the sites, so it was easy to get to the best parts and avoid the crowds. I recommend him highly--you'll learn so much and have so many good memories.

Why this scores 64
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Tours in Pompeii guided by a professional Archeologist: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Pompeii.
How much does Tours in Pompeii guided by a professional Archeologist cost?
+
Prices start at $520 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Pompeii usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Tours in Pompeii guided by a professional Archeologist take?
+
Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Pompeii is not rushed.
Is Tours in Pompeii guided by a professional Archeologist worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 64 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 19 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Pompeii, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Tours in Pompeii guided by a professional Archeologist?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Tours in Pompeii guided by a professional Archeologist suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Tours in Pompeii guided by a professional Archeologist?
+
Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Pompeii can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Pompeii and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Tours in Pompeii guided by a professional Archeologist start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Pompeii within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Pompeii?
+
On Outty we rank every Pompeii experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Premium Minivan Trip from Rome: Pompeii Tour & Lunch in Sorrento, Skip the Line Guided Tour of Pompeii Led by an Archaeologist, Explore Pompeii with an Archaeologist. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Pompeii?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Pompeii?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
