About this experience
The archaeological city of Pompeii is a characteristic destination of the Campania region and of the suburban territory of Naples. The excavations extend for 440,000 m². Starting from the end of the XVIII century, the remains of the ancient Roman city were brought to light: the archaeological investigations have not only revealed paintings, mosaics, furnishings and buildings, but have allowed us to reconstruct the lifestyle in Roman times. The Pompeian archaeological site, together with that of Ercolano and Oplonti, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. Visit the archaeological park of Pompeii with an authorized guide to make your experience unique and to fully understand the millennial history of one of the world's unique heritage sites.

Excellent Private Tour
Wanted to do a private tour of Pompeii so we could do it at our pace, focus on things we wanted to see and give us the freedom to forego certain sights that had a line (brothel). Our tour was fantastic and I recommend if you can financially swing it to do it vs participating in a small group tour. We started in the museum which helps to give perspective and context to what your going to see in the site so best to start with that first if possible. Maria from Tours if Pompeii was great to deal with in setting up our tour via email. Highly recommended!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for sharing your experience! We’re delighted to hear that your private tour of Pompeii went so well and that you enjoyed the flexibility and deeper understanding that a private visit can offer. It’s always wonderful to know that our guests are happy with the services arranged — and we truly hope to welcome you again for new discoveries across our beautiful region! Warm regards, Andrea Amalfi Tour Leader

Best Holiday Ever
We had the best time ever in Amalfi. Andrea was wonderful. He was helpful, informative, reliable and a lot of fun. We all loved the fascinating Pompeii tour with our private guide. Later we were driven to a beautiful vineyard where we toured the property and then later had the most amazing lunch and sampled some incredible wine! Thank you Andrea for such a perfect day! Bev, Nancy, Maddie and Kathleen
Response from the operator: Dear Bev, Nancy, Maddie, and Kathleen, Thank you so much for your wonderful words! It was truly a pleasure spending the day with you — from the fascinating visit to Pompeii to the beautiful moments at the vineyard. I’m so happy you enjoyed the experience, the lunch, and, of course, the amazing wine! Days like this, filled with smiles and great company, are what make my job so special. I hope to see you all again soon for new adventures on the Amalfi Coast! A big hug, Andrea Amalfi Tour Leader

EXCELLENT TOUR
Andrea was extremely helpful in organising our tour and the making of suggestions as to the content of the tour. The tour itself was on time and was exactly what we had booked. We enjoyed it very much. By chance there was some spare time and Andrea organised an unexpected addition to the trip for which he made no extra charge. He was throughout very informative and pleasant. We most highly recommend this tour service and will use again when visiting the area.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your beautiful review and for your trust! It was a real pleasure helping you organize the tour and making sure everything matched your wishes — and I’m so happy you enjoyed the little extra stop we managed to fit in! For me, it’s all about making the experience as special and memorable as possible. I truly look forward to welcoming you back whenever you visit the Amalfi Coast again! Warmest regards, Andrea Amalfi Tour Leader

Why this scores 53
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Tour of Pompeii: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Pompeii.
How much does Tour of Pompeii cost?
+
Prices start at $180 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Pompeii usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Tour of Pompeii take?
+
Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Pompeii is not rushed.
Is Tour of Pompeii worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 53 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 3 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable culture & history in Pompeii, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Tour of Pompeii?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is Tour of Pompeii suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Tour of Pompeii?
+
Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Pompeii can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Pompeii and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Tour of Pompeii start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Pompeii within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Pompeii?
+
On Outty we rank every Pompeii experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Premium Minivan Trip from Rome: Pompeii Tour & Lunch in Sorrento, Skip the Line Guided Tour of Pompeii Led by an Archaeologist, Explore Pompeii with an Archaeologist. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Pompeii?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Pompeii?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
