  2. Kampong Phluk Floating Village

The Tonle Sap one of the world’s most productive bodies of fresh water. In the wet season, the Tonle Sap Lake swells to 12,000 km². During the dry half of the year, the lake shrinks to as small as 2,500 km², draining into the Tonle Sap River. Each year, millions of fish come to spawn in the seasonally flooded forest surrounding the lake, attracting a myriad of water birds as well as people, who have settled in villages along the shores and who live with the rhythm of the water. This ecosystem was classified as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1997. Take a boat trip to ‘Kampong Phluk’ a collection of three small fishing villages in an atmospheric flooded forest setting. Cruise through the village and see unique houses on stilts, and Cambodians at work in the floating forest. Our boat will meander slowly through forest canals, allowing you to catch glimpses of flora and fauna, and see a truly beautiful eco-system.

Something different from temples!

After I completed the 2 days temples tour, we asked our guide Pal if we could add on the additional visit to the floating village. It was great to stick with the same team from Journey Cambodia and we had a great time!

Response from the operator: Dear Haley, Thank you so much for the wonderful review! We are thrilled to hear that you had such a great time exploring the temples over two days with Pal. We’re always happy to accommodate extra stops like the floating village, and we're so glad you enjoyed sticking with the same team throughout your trip. Thank you for choosing Journey Cambodia. A very cultural morning.

Visiting this lake and village at the beginning of the rainy season had its advantages (for us) because it was not crowded with many tourists. Our guide, Sopheap Rath, was originally from the village so we felt like we had a very personalised tour and good insight into what the daily life was really like. You can tell he has a love of learning and of Cambodia and its history. 🇰🇭 Our driver, Seyha, was a confident driver negotiating all the intricacies of the Cambodian roads! We also appreciated his politeness and preparedness with cool face cloths and cold bottles of water upon our return to the van. Sopheap was our guide for our three day stay in Siem Reap. This was our first time to Cambodia and he made a good impression! We really enjoyed our time in Cambodia. Thank you, Sopheap 🙏

Response from the operator: Dear Michele, Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a beautiful review of your first visit to Cambodia. We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the peacefulness of the early rainy season and felt so welcomed. Sopheap and Seyha will be absolutely delighted to read your kind words. Sopheap truly loves sharing his village roots and Cambodia's rich history, and we are so glad his passion made your three-day stay in Siem Reap so memorable. Thank you for choosing us for your first Cambodian adventure. We hope to welcome you back again in the future. Our tour guide Pal was great. He had a lot of knowledge about the area. Our driver Verey was great as well. Would definitely do another tour and then.

Relaxing fishing village Tonle Sap tour

We had a fun time today half-day tour, on a trip to Tonle sap. It included market walk, boat ride, walk through fishing village and floating restaurant stop. Our guide Sopheap Rath kept us entertained throughout with stories about Cambodia and village life. We went to a school at the village and spoke to the children there who were learning English. Our driver Ra Da kept cold towels and cold water ready for us, he drove very well which was an hour return trip through scenic countryside.

Response from the operator: Dear Value Customer, Thank you so much for the wonderful review. We are thrilled to hear you enjoyed the journey to Tonle Sap. Sopheap Rath is indeed a storyteller at heart, and he’ll be so happy to know his insights into village life resonated with you. It’s also great to hear that Ra Da kept you comfortable—those cold towels are a lifesaver in the Cambodian heat. We hope to see you again soon. Tonle Sap Lake - Fishing Village & Flooded Forest: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Siem Reap.

How much does Tonle Sap Lake - Fishing Village & Flooded Forest cost?

+

Prices start at $19 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Siem Reap usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Tonle Sap Lake - Fishing Village & Flooded Forest take?

+

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Siem Reap is not rushed.

Is Tonle Sap Lake - Fishing Village & Flooded Forest worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 74 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 42 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Siem Reap, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Tonle Sap Lake - Fishing Village & Flooded Forest?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Tonle Sap Lake - Fishing Village & Flooded Forest suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 8. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 4-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Tonle Sap Lake - Fishing Village & Flooded Forest?

+

Around 15 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Siem Reap can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Siem Reap and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Tonle Sap Lake - Fishing Village & Flooded Forest start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Siem Reap within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Siem Reap?

+

On Outty we rank every Siem Reap experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Angkor Wat Sunrise or Sunset Small-Group and Guide tours, Angkor Wat full Day 'Small Group with sunset & Tour Guide, Angkor Wat Sunrise or Sunset Tour with Guide from Siem Reap. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Siem Reap?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Siem Reap?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
