What you'll see and do
Machu Picchu, which in Spanish means “old mountain”, is the most famous Inca citadel in the world. Located 110 km northeast of Cusco, in the province of Urubamba. This architectural gem is surrounded by temples, platforms and water channels. In order to visit Machu Picchu, Inca Rail has three starting points: The San Pedro stations in Cusco, Poroy and Ollantaytambo from which you can board the train of your choice bound for the Machu Picchu Pueblo station. It also offers its Bimodal service which combines a trip on the exclusive bus, starting from Av. El Sol 843, near the Plaza de Armas to Ollantaytambo to board the train to Machu Picchu Pueblo. The Bimodal service is available all year round. Between January and April it is suggested to leave with the Bimodal service, because due to weather conditions, it will not be possible to leave from the San Pedro and Poroy train stations.

Gabi is the best
Gabi was an amazing guide at Machu Picchu! She was very friendly and helpful. The tour was a great pace, not too fast or slow and she took great pics of us at all the viewpoints.

Horrible experience
The return bus trip was a terrible experience. The guide was unintelligible in both Spanish and English. Much of the route involved driving through huge clouds of dust; we asked for the air conditioning to be turned on because so much dust was getting in—causing several passengers to close their windows—but the heat and dust remained a constant issue. They claimed to have turned on the AC, yet they kept their own windows open the entire way. They made a stop halfway to let us "refresh ourselves" at a dangerous location. It was truly awful—borderline torture. The train ride itself was incredible, but when you look at the experience as a whole, it turned out to be a bad one. Bus 3. Date: October 6, 2026.

Inca rail experience
One of the most overpriced and disappointing train experiences I’ve ever had. Inca Rail seems to have mastered the art of charging premium prices while delivering anything but a premium experience. Our train was delayed with virtually no useful information or communication. When you’re paying an absurd amount of money for a relatively short journey, the absolute minimum you expect is to be kept informed. Then there’s the price. The fares are frankly insane for what you actually get. And unfortunately, paying more doesn’t just mean marginally better service — the difference between the standard and premium options feels like an absurd social-class divide. It’s difficult not to feel that passengers are being deliberately separated into “those who can afford comfort” and everyone else. The standard experience is uncomfortable, and the ventilation is frankly shocking. The lack of airflow makes the carriage feel stuffy and unpleasant, which is particularly ridiculous on a journey where you’re essentially trapped inside a train for hours. For the money Inca Rail charges, you would expect comfort, organisation, communication and a genuinely premium experience. Instead, we got delays, poor communication, uncomfortable conditions, inadequate ventilation and a pricing structure that makes the difference between classes feel almost comically excessive. Inca Rail is a perfect example of paying luxury prices for a decidedly non-luxury experience. Unless you absolutely have no alternative, I would seriously think twice before spending this kind of money on it.
