What you get
About this experience
In this Portland food tour, we will explore the charming streets of the Kerns neighborhood where we will sample some of the tastiest bites that Portland has to offer. This once sleepy neighborhood has blossomed into a Portland bazaar for diverse and delicious treats. Our five stops will create a varied and scrumptious meal and whet your appetite for what the Kerns has to offer. Examples include ethnic contributions such as Jaliscan and Bretagne food, a visit to an eclectic outdoor food hall, charcuterie, and dessert from an artisanal ice cream shop.. You will not leave hungry! While the Kerns extends more broadly, its core is centered on Restaurant Row, on NE 28th between Burnside and Glisan St. We will walk a total of 1.3 miles through tree lined streets and hipster hangouts while we visit six foodie hot spots in the Kerns neighborhood. Along the way we will also talk about the history of the Kerns and take in some classical Portland residential architecture. All ages welcome.

A wonderful time exploring the Kern Neighborhood.
We had an incredible time exploring Portland’s Kerns Neighborhood with our guide, Sherri. She was warm, engaging, and incredibly knowledgeable, sharing fascinating stories about the neighborhood’s history along with wonderful “before and after” photos that brought the area’s evolution to life. Sherri made the entire experience both informative and enjoyable. The food tour itself was outstanding. We sampled delicious tortas made with masa at Guero, enjoyed an amazing sushi burrito from Rollin’ Fresh, sipped a refreshing piña colada at Tropicale, stopped for flavorful bites at FOMO Chicken in POD 28, and finished the tour with delicious Mochi Donuts. We also loved visiting several unique local shops, including Montelupo, with its wonderful selection of Italian pastas and specialty foods, and Providore, an impressive indoor market featuring an extensive collection of gourmet items. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed discovering the Kerns Neighborhood and truly appreciated the hospitality and enthusiasm of our host. It was a memorable experience that we would highly recommend.
Response from the operator: Ken, I enjoyed the afternoon just as much as you guys did! It was fun much fun to share what I love about the city with you both. And you are both very experienced foodies - I was impressed with your knowledge and scope!

A flavorful tour of the Kerns Neighborhood
We had a delicious food tour with Sherri. She was very knowledgeable about the food scene and Portland in general. We loved enjoying all the flavors of the Kerns Neighborhood—tortas/tostadas, sushi burrito, fried chicken, hibiscus tea, and gelato—to name a few. Not only did we visit restaurants, but also gourmet markets in the area. It was an enjoyable afternoon of culinary delights and good conversation—a highlight of our West Coast trip. Would highly recommend a food tour with Sherri!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for making the Vibrant Kerns tour part of your time in Portland. We are delighted that you enjoyed all the eateries and markets. We aim to be a highlight of everyone's vacation, and it sounds like we were for you - wonderful!

Highly Enjoyable and Very Tasty
Excellent experience, even with a 15 year old young man who was more interested in eating than hearing about the history of the restauranteurs ha. Sherri did an excellent job of pacing the experience for the weather (atmospheric river) and the attendees. She knew exactly when and where to place her group under cover and arrange stops for facility breaks. She's very knowledgeable about the area, passionate about the topic, and it shows in her attention to detail.
Response from the operator: It was a pleasure hosting you all, and yes, it was quite a rainy day, which sort of added to the adventure. Thank you for making the Vibrant Kerns tour part of your time in Portland!

Best food tour in Portland, Oregon!
The food tour was amazing! We thought it was the most fun thing we’ve done in a long time. Sherri’s knowledge of Portland was surprising. We both learned a lot and loved her style. I will definitely do this again when I have company in town and I’m so excited to have experienced the Kerns area as I’m always looking for new good restaurants & interesting shops. Thank you again SHERRI for a job well done!
Response from the operator: Thank you both for being such delightful guests. I love to share part of what makes Portland special (it's awesome food) - and love to have locals along. We'd love to host you and your friends again on another tour!

Why this scores 73
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
The Vibrant Kerns Hood - East Burnside and more: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Portland.
How much does The Vibrant Kerns Hood - East Burnside and more cost?
+
Prices start at $119 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Portland usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does The Vibrant Kerns Hood - East Burnside and more take?
+
Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Portland is not rushed.
Is The Vibrant Kerns Hood - East Burnside and more worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 73 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 72 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Portland, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule The Vibrant Kerns Hood - East Burnside and more?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is The Vibrant Kerns Hood - East Burnside and more suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book The Vibrant Kerns Hood - East Burnside and more?
+
Around 25 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Portland can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Portland and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does The Vibrant Kerns Hood - East Burnside and more start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Portland within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Portland?
+
Portland's activity list is food cart and brewery crawls, Columbia River Gorge waterfall tours to Multnomah Falls, Mount Hood day trips and Willamette Valley pinot tastings. Gorge tours vary in how many falls they reach, so route detail is the deciding factor. On Outty we rank every Portland experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Full-Day Guided Oregon Coast Tour from Portland, Multnomah Falls and Columbia River Gorge Half-Day Hiking Tour, Columbia Gorge Waterfalls and Mt. Hood Tour - Full Day. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Portland?
+
June to October for the Gorge, with waterfalls at their fullest in spring. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Portland?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
