Starting from the iconic Sweny's Pharmacy, this walking tour explores Dublin's literary heritage through song, poetry and storytelling. Built around the life and work of James Joyce, the stroll traces his journey from aspiring young writer to the author of Dubliners, A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man and Ulysses, visiting the places that shaped his imagination. Along the way, we also encounter fellow writers and artists including Oscar and Lady Jane Wilde, Æ George Russell and Susan L. Mitchell, revealing the rich creative world that once flourished around Merrion Square. Guided by songwriter R.M. Jacobs.

Sweny's
We begin our journey at the iconic Sweny's Pharmacy, one of Dublin's oldest Victorian pharmacies and a beloved landmark immortalised in James Joyce's Ulysses. Here we step into the world of Joyce and set the scene with songs from his early work for the literary walk ahead.

Merrion Square
From Sweny's we make our way to Merrion Square Park, where we explore the rich literary heritage of the area. At the Oscar Wilde statue, I perform musical settings of poems by both Oscar Wilde and his mother, Lady Jane Wilde, before we continue to the statue of the poet, painter and mystic Æ (George Russell), one of the leading figures of the Irish Literary Revival.

Leaving the park behind, we walk to Finn's Hotel, where James Joyce first met Nora Barnacle in 1904. From there, we return to Sweny's Pharmacy, where the tour concludes with live performances of songs inspired by Joyce's later works.

Sublime walking tour!
Truly unique experience. Poetry, music, storytelling while strolling through the neighborhood. All contributing to a wonderful telling of the life and times of Joyce, Wilde and others. Remco was amazing. Don't miss this!!!

Poetry Stroll - a must for literature fans
This was an excellent, one-of-a-kind tour combining Irish literature, history, stories, music, and beautiful locations. Remco is an excellent guide and a passionate musician who clearly cares deeply about literature. The starting point at Sweny’s is also a unique and magical place.

Very impressive
This was a truly special experience. It was a wonderful experience for tourists visiting Dublin, as well as for literature lovers, poetry enthusiasts, and music lovers. As an architectural designer, I found a sense of peace and abstract design inspiration during the process.

A Beautiful Journey Through Dublin's Literary Soul
I especially enjoyed listening to Remco's storytelling. He wove together the lives of Oscar Wilde, James Joyce, Speranza and George Russell (Æ) with poetry, music and the streets of Dublin in a way that felt both intimate and deeply moving. The moment that has stayed with me the most was standing beneath a great tree in Merrion Square, looking towards the former home of Oscar Wilde and his mother, Speranza, while Remco sang Fatality with his guitar. The melody was so beautiful and melancholic. Some people stood quietly, lost in thought. I found myself overwhelmed by a sense of remembrance and unexpectedly close to tears. Another unforgettable moment was hearing Oscar Wilde's poem for his little sister, who died at a very young age. It was so tender and moving that, for a brief moment, it felt as though all of us were remembering her together. I enjoyed the music so much that I ended up taking home a copy of the record. It has become a lovely reminder of that afternoon. You don't need to be an expert in Irish literature to enjoy this walk. If you love stories, poetry, music, or simply want to experience Dublin from a different perspective, I couldn't recommend it more highly. Thank you, Remco, for such a memorable afternoon.

Absolutely Amazing Find!!
Me, my grandma, and my mom went on the tour and all three absolutely adored it! I loved poetry, but my mom doesn’t at all and she still absolutely loved it. He has the most beautiful voice and the songs nearly brought me to tears (and I’m not super emotional about music). He was super friendly, informative, and made learning so so fun! I’d recommend for literally anyone, even if you’re not into music or poetry, for the fun experience and amazing conversation! Not to mention, the Sweny’s shop is such a fun start and end to the tour, with loads of history that you’d never expect! By far my favorite find of Dublin!!
