What you get

    About this experience

If you want to experience Sintra without the crowds and clichés, this tour is for you. We’ll take you to places that most visitors miss. This tour takes you through spaces history nearly left behind: the weathered simplicity of the Convent of the Capuchos, carved into the forest with Franciscan humility; the forgotten sentinel of Penedo, a traditional village seemingly suspended in time; the harsh beauty of Azenhas do Mar, a charming old fishing village; and the lush opulence of Monserrate, where nature was molded to reflect romantic ideals. These spaces were overlooked throughout history, but together they reveal a deeper, more authentic Sintra, where silence meets spectacle, and simplicity contrasts with grandeur. Made for those who want to slow down, this tour avoids the tourist traps, and shows a more real Sintra: a place full of contrast, history, and calm.

The Other Side of Sintra - Forgotten Woods

We had a wonderful leisurely tour away from the busy touristy areas outside of Sintra & Cascais. We visited a historic convent, a beautiful botanical garden, & lots of scenic coastline. Since we were the only couple on the tour, our guide was very nice to make some modifications for us and we got to see a couple other areas in addition to the planned itinerary. Our guide was so knowledgeable & really knew the history about all the places we visited. Oriana was “THE BEST” and we really appreciate her great service & sharing her knowledge of the area. Thank you!!!

    Amazing tour!!

Amazing tour! We got to visit places we never would have gone without the tour. Guides were amazing and so knowledgeable and patient. The pace was comfortable and relaxed. There were no crowds at any of the places they took us. Great for people who don’t want to just see the touristy areas. We were picked up right at our hotel in a comfortable van and the guides made the whole trip easy. We saw the most amazing views of our visit during this tour. 100% recommend!!

This was an absolutely fantastic tour! I enjoyed seeing the ‘other side’ of Sintra - which was equally as beautiful as the more well known locations but a lot less crowded. Oriana, our guide had such a wealth of knowledge about the places we visited and the region in general! I loved that we got to visit the beautiful mountain locations as well as some coastal stops, without it being too rushed! Would highly recommend this tour!

This was the highlight of my trip to Portugal. Both momserrat and the convent of capuchos are stunning hidden gems in Sintra nacional park. I highly recommend this tour if want to escape the crowds of historical village of Sintra and the pena palace which I visited previously.

The Other Side of Sintra - Forgotten Woods: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Lisbon.

How much does The Other Side of Sintra - Forgotten Woods cost?

    +

Prices start at $50 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Lisbon usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does The Other Side of Sintra - Forgotten Woods take?

    +

Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Lisbon is not rushed.

Is The Other Side of Sintra - Forgotten Woods worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 70 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 9 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Lisbon, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule The Other Side of Sintra - Forgotten Woods?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is The Other Side of Sintra - Forgotten Woods suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book The Other Side of Sintra - Forgotten Woods?

    +

Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Lisbon can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Lisbon and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does The Other Side of Sintra - Forgotten Woods start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Lisbon within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Lisbon?

    +

On Outty we rank every Lisbon experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Lisbon City Center Tour - The Unmissable Lisbon, Sintra Private Trip from Lisbon Customizable Dreamlike Experience, True 4Hour Private Tuk Tuk Tour: Discover Lisbon with a Local!. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Lisbon?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Lisbon?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
