What you get

    About this experience

It’s not hallucinogenic and doesn’t always come with a worm - Mezcal: Tequila’s smoky, mysterious, cool uncle. Despite Mezcal’s growing popularity in the liquor and cocktail scene, much of the product never even makes it to US or Canada due to trade restrictions and small batch quantities. This is your opportunity to try something new and see why this artisanal drink is receiving so much attention. A total of four quality, small distillery mezcals will be sampled throughout this hour and a half tasting.

Learned a lot about agave and loved the tasting!

Exceptional tasting experience! Alex was extremely knowledgeable, patient and fun. We truly learned a lot and enjoyed trying many different agave spirits. Left with four bottles! It ended up only being the two of us, which was intimate and special. Great tasting room as well… clean, cool, well appointed, and the bar attached to it had an incredible array of agave spirits.

Response from the operator: Thanks for the review!

better if you don't know anything about spirits

I was pretty disappointed with this tasting, for a number of reasons. I went with some friends who have varying experience of tequila, but was surprised by the host's attitude, which was in contrast to the overall warmth and positivity I usually expect in the hospitality industry. On the one hand was the short, at times rude responses to our questions, and on the other was the cost of the tasting simply not reflecting the amount we were served. To try 5 different sprits and still receive less than a shot total was very strange; at the end we were asked what our favorite was, I thought because she would want to share more, since we received such a small amount compared with other tastings I've tried, but no. I feel bad for the host because I got the vibe that she wasn't that happy, or was going through something, but when your business is in tourism and hospitality, bringing a good attitude really matters. I wish her the best, and hope this was a fluke, but next time I'm in Vallarta, I'll be trying a different place.

Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to write this review. Our tastings are intentionally designed as guided educational experiences. Each of the five spirits is poured at a full 1 oz measure, resulting in a total of 6 oz served over the course of the session. The portions are structured to allow guests to explore a range of expressions thoughtfully and responsibly, with an emphasis on production methods, regional differences, and proper tasting technique. We’re sorry to hear that you perceived the interaction as anything less than warm or welcoming. Hospitality is something we take seriously, and we consistently receive feedback highlighting the passion, depth of knowledge, and care that go into each experience. Our format is structured and educational, which can sometimes feel different from more casual or volume-focused tastings, and expectations can understandably vary. While we regret that the experience did not align with what you were hoping for, we do wish you the best in finding a tasting style that better suits your preferences on your next visit to Vallarta. Thank you again for joining us.

    First class in every way

I am not a mezcal or tequila connoisseur and that has not changed, but the entire experience was wonderful. The setting, the presentation, the food pairings and the amount of knowledge shared was first class. I highly recommend the experience.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much!

the Mezcalero mezcal tasting: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Puerto Vallarta.

How much does the Mezcalero mezcal tasting cost?

    +

Prices start at $78 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Puerto Vallarta usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does the Mezcalero mezcal tasting take?

    +

Plan for about 1.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Puerto Vallarta is not rushed.

Is the Mezcalero mezcal tasting worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 69 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 40 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Puerto Vallarta, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule the Mezcalero mezcal tasting?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is the Mezcalero mezcal tasting suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book the Mezcalero mezcal tasting?

    +

Around 14 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Puerto Vallarta can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Puerto Vallarta and add a light layer if any part of the 1.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does the Mezcalero mezcal tasting start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Puerto Vallarta within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Puerto Vallarta?

    +

On Outty we rank every Puerto Vallarta experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Winner 2026 Downtown Vallarta Food Tour with Vallarta Food Tours, Signature Taco Tour in PV with Vallarta Eats, Food & Mixology Tour:Tequila,Tacos, Mezcal and Agave Cocktails. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Puerto Vallarta?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Puerto Vallarta?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
