Nice lake tour but food is not great
We really enjoyed this private tour to Son Kol lake. You spend a lot of time in the car, but that is because the lake is so far away from Bishkek. We fortunately had an amazing driver. It was a very smooth drive despite rocky roads and tons of switchbacks up the mountains. No dizziness or car sickness whatsoever. 11/10 for our driver. Madina, our main guide, was very informative and helpful. She was always willing to stop for pictures along the road and took a bunch of photos and videos for us. We took some nice videos and photos of her as well :). We enjoyed the horseback riding, and they accommodated ability levels, which was great because I have over 15 years of experience, and this was my boyfriend’s first time riding. We rode at sunset, which was absolutely gorgeous. We highly recommend riding that evening rather than waiting until the next morning. We tried to see the sunrise, but unfortunately, it was very cloudy. Sunrise is also behind the lake, so it wouldn’t have been as nice as the sunset. The food was not great. It was particularly challenging for me since I have a dietary restriction. If you have a dietary restriction as well, I’d recommend planning ahead and bringing your own food. The facilities were also below our expectations. While it was really cool to stay in a yurt, we expected a couples bed and had two single beds instead. We shoved them together though and made it work. Our door also wouldn’t stay closed and let in several bugs and spiders. There are limited bathrooms at the site as well, and you’ll always have to wait in a line to use the facilities. It also gets very cold at night, so prepare accordingly. The yurt is warm, but it is very cold walking to the bathroom in the middle of the night. While this is a private tour, there are other group tours that you’ll be sharing everything with, and some of those people were quite rude. Good digital detox, but be aware that there is very limited service/wifi on the entire two-day tour. It’s a very scenic drive and pretty lake, but there’s not that much to do besides walking around the lake. Still think the tour was worth it, but it would have been helpful to know some of these things ahead of time.

A must to do activity
Koshmatov is a really nice guy accompanying us as a guide with a lot of insights about cultures and cuisines. Son Kol Lake is definitely a unforgetable experience. Nomad experience by living in a yurt is a must. Definitely worthed every penny. The view during the day and night is amazing.
Response from the operator: Dear Triavianti! Thank you so much for sharing such a lovely feedback! We are sincerely happy that you loved your experience with us! We're looking forward to showing you some more of Central Asia in future!

Absolutely mesmerising with superb tour service by Ventura
Took up a private solo tour to Son Kol lake after 2 other members backed out due to unforeseen circumstances. I initially hesitated as it wasn’t cost effective for a solo traveller to take a private tour. Alternatively I was considering to just engage a private driver without guide instead. Eventually I took up the full package after I was convinced by the sincerity and commitment by Ash, the owner of Ventura Tours, that a guide can bring out the best experience in the tour. True enough, I definitely didn’t regret my choice. Thanks to my decision, I managed to meet with my friendly & bubbly guide Nuriza, along with my humorous driver Ulan. Nuriza was like a travel companion/friend instead of a guide, as we trekked nature together, dined together, did horseriding together and watched shooting stars together under the starry night sky at Son Kol. The tour was made even better by the perfect weather and cloudless blue skies. Most travellers usually plan for Issyk Kol and might skip Son Kol, however I would strongly suggest to include Son Kol in your itinerary as I felt that Son Kol was more peaceful and mesmerising, and I could experience authentic nomad lifestyle better than in Issyk Kol. For a peace of mind in transportation & yurt accommodation, accompanied with quality guided service, I would highly recommend to travel with Ventura Tours, whether by group or solo, whether in shared or private.
Response from the operator: Dear Jerrik! Thank you so much for such an expanded and warm feedback! We are sincerely happy that you loved your experience with us! Nuriza and the whole Ventura Tours team will be absolutely happy to show you some more of Kyrgyzstan and other parts of Central Asia!

Great tour experience
Had a private tour with Ventura tours and the overall experience was great. Went to Burana Tower, trekked at the Kok Moinok Canyon, stopped by for a panoramic view of the Orto Tokoy reservoir and ended thebfirst day at a yurt camp by the Son Kul Lake. Staying a night at the yurt camp was a peaceful and serene experience. Also managed to ride on a horse on the 2nd morning. My guide was Bek and he was knowledgeable, friendly and spoke very good English. The driver was Zhenya and awesome driving skills. Definitely would recommend to join a tour with Ventura Tours!
Response from the operator: Dear Jelmer! Thanks a lot for your much valuable review! We are truly happy that you loved your experience in Kyrgyzstan with us! You're always awaited and welcome in Central Asia!

Amazing experience
The tour was amazing. We were accompanied on the tour by Sergei the driver and Nuriza the tour guide. Both of them were very kind, we enjoy a lot the time we spent with them. It takes many hours of car to get to the lake from Biskek, but the stops to see the Burana Tower and the canyon made it appear shorter, the car was very confortable and the landscapes were fascinating, so it definitively does worth. I will always remember riding a horse in a sunny morning on the shores of Lake Son Kol after sleeping in a yurt. Thanks for this unforgeatable experience!
Response from the operator: Dear Javier! Thank you so much for your valuable feedback! We are really happy that you loved your 2 day tour with us! It means a lot to us! We hope to see you again!

Why this scores 66
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
The magnificent and mystic Son Kol lake in 2 days: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Bishkek.
How much does The magnificent and mystic Son Kol lake in 2 days cost?
+
Prices start at $508 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Bishkek usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does The magnificent and mystic Son Kol lake in 2 days take?
+
Plan for about 48 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Bishkek is not rushed.
Is The magnificent and mystic Son Kol lake in 2 days worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 66 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 7 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Bishkek, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule The magnificent and mystic Son Kol lake in 2 days?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is The magnificent and mystic Son Kol lake in 2 days suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 10. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 48-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book The magnificent and mystic Son Kol lake in 2 days?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Bishkek can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Bishkek and add a light layer if any part of the 48-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does The magnificent and mystic Son Kol lake in 2 days start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Bishkek within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Bishkek?
+
On Outty we rank every Bishkek experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include All-Inclusive Day Trip: Burana, Canyons & Issyk Kul with Pickup, 2-Day Issyk Kul Small Group Tour with Yurt Stay and Eagle Show, Ala Archa Nature Park Essential Half Day Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Bishkek?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Bishkek?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
