Had me surfing in no time. Pura vida.

This was only the second time I'd tried surfing. The first was when I was over 20 years younger and just rented a board and gave it a try on my own. I never managed to stand up then for more than a second or two. I walked up ready to surf and bought a two-hour private lesson. They provided the board, shirt, and instructor. I was successfully surfing my way back to shore on the first try after a little instruction. It probably helped that they put me on an enormous board to start, but a little instruction also went a long way. My instructor braved the surf on his own like a champ as I went back and forth from shore to the first breakers. Everyone I dealt with was great and spoke far better English than I do Spanish, which was more than enough for surf instruction. Jaco beach is also a great place for beginners learning to surf. The waves break consistently at the same place in maybe 4-5 feet of water, so very little paddling is needed to get to where you need to be to learn. The surf lesson also included board rental for two days, so you can keep going or come back the next day to keep riding the waves. If you are interested in learning to surf, you can't go wrong with these guys.

Great surfing lesson in Jaco

Had a great experience taking a surfing lesson from Marlon. He is a great teacher! I got up on the board several times and I only had one other surfing experience about 20 years ago previously. He was great at teaching the proper techniques and his English was easy to understand. I highly recommend taking a surfing lesson with Marlon.

Incredible Lesson

I had such a great time at Cocalito Surf School. My instructor, Marlin, was awesome. He was incredibly patient, encouraging, and made the whole experience feel fun and comfortable from the start. As a beginner, I really appreciated how he broke down the basics and gave me plenty of time in the water to practice. I never felt rushed or overwhelmed, just supported the entire time. I learned a lot and had so much fun doing it. The price was fair as well as I only had a limited time but Marlin was able to teach me so much and still curate a supportive and fun experience. I would definitely recommend Cocalito Surf School and Marlin to anyone looking to learn how to surf or just have a great experience out on the water. I would absolutely do it again. Gracias por todo Marlin! Pura Vida

1st time surf experience

Great beach, convenient location, and friendly waves. I was laughing, surfing, and enjoying the lesson with the helpful staff. Everyone was kind with big smiles. Ask for Marlon if you go, tell him Kayla said Hi! 🤙🏼 In your lesson you’ll practice on the shore, stretch and prep, practice in the shallow area and then go out deep! It’s evident that Marlon enjoys his work and is genuinely cares about your experience!! He helped so much and was a great teacher, just like he promised. I doubted I could do it and he proved me wrong in the best way. 10/10, def recommend if you are looking for something fun and memorable to do in Jaco, or CR in general.

The Good Surfing Experience in Jacó: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Jaco.

How much does The Good Surfing Experience in Jacó cost?

+

Prices start at $50 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Jaco usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does The Good Surfing Experience in Jacó take?

+

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Jaco is not rushed.

Is The Good Surfing Experience in Jacó worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 70 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 22 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Jaco, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule The Good Surfing Experience in Jacó?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is The Good Surfing Experience in Jacó suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 5. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 2-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book The Good Surfing Experience in Jacó?

+

Around 8 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Jaco can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Jaco and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does The Good Surfing Experience in Jacó start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Jaco within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Jaco?

+

On Outty we rank every Jaco experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Arenal Volcano, La Fortuna Waterfall, Hot Springs Combo Tour with Lunch & Dinner, Surf Lessons with Pro Team in Jacó, Jaco Beach Costa Rica Horseback Riding. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Jaco?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Jaco?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
