    3. Santuario del Volto Santo

Inside the Shrine of Manoppello is enclosed, in a case, what is recognized as the true Face of Jesus Christ. A legend tells that in 1506 a pilgrim presented himself to the physicist Giacomo Antonio Leonelli and gave him the precious gift. The veil remained in the Leonelli house until 1608, then was stolen by a soldier of fortune and sold to Donatantonio De Fabritiis and from these donated to the Capuchin Father Clemente da Castelvecchio, who placed the relic between two glasses with a walnut frame. From 1646 the Holy Face is exposed to the veneration of the people. It is a soft veil, the warp and the weft are intertwined in the form of a normal weaving. The cloth measures 17 x 24 cm and shows the image of a male face with long hair and a beard divided into bands; it is the only case in the world where the image is identically visible on both sides.

    Incredible pilgrimage!

Incredible pilgrimage! It was a faith deepening experience. Two absolutely amazing miracles! The heat muscle and blood of Jesus in the flesh is the first Eucaristic Miracle of it's kind and had been proven to be human heart tissue and human type AB blood. To be in it's presence and see it with our own eyes was amazing and profound. Then the face of the veil is striking, and when that image is overlayed with the images from other veils, the result is spectacular. This is definitely a worthwhile pilgrimage. I took this trip with my wife. We rode in a luxury car with a great driver through beautiful mountains. Our tour guide was excellent and knowledgeable, and able to help translate things to English from Italian. The miracles were really special. With the advanced notice we gave them, they were able to accommodate our vegan dietary restrictions for a great lunch. It was an excellent 12 hour day. I highly recommend it!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for this description of you spiritual experience in Lanciano! We’re very proud and felt touchy by reading your words! -Francesco

The best tour guide and tour of our trip

Francisco and our driver were amazing. They took very good care of us. The information Francisco shared at each site was very knowledgeable. We were not rushed at either site, Francisco was very patient giving us plenty of time for prayer. We wish all of our tour guides were as good at their job as Francisco is. Our driver was very careful in traffic and always available for extra help. The excellent Italian lunch was wonderful, Francisco's choices for food was tasty and very Italian. Foods we had not tried.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your tour with Francisco and our driver. It’s great to know you appreciated the balance of information, time for prayer, and the authentic Italian lunch. We’ll be sure to share your kind words with Francisco — he’ll be so happy to hear them! We hope to welcome you again soon for another memorable experience in Italy.

    An upsetting spiritual experience

The place is imbued with a sacred silence, an inner peace difficult to describe in words. I felt great humility, profound gratitude and closeness to the mystery of faith. Whether one is a fervent believer or simply in spiritual research, this moment leaves no one indifferent.

Response from the operator: Merci infiniment pour votre avis 5 étoiles ! Nous sommes ravis que vous ayez apprécié votre expérience. Votre satisfaction est notre plus belle récompense. Au plaisir de vous accueillir à nouveau très bientôt !

    Unforgettable Daytrip

This was a day trip to see both the Eucharistic Miracle of Lanciano and the Holy Face at Mannopello. Both holy places are unforgettable and going with Rome Italy Explora made the trip both safe and comfortable. I was able to spend a sufficient amount of time to pray during the visit to these 2 holy places. The tour guide, Maria Luisa and the driver, Florian both exhibited professionalism and ensured I was comfortable throughout the trip. Maria Luisa is highly fluent in English and was able to demonstrate expert knowledge on historical and cultural aspects and even give tips on places to eat at her own initiative. They were both considerate of my concerns and preferences for the entire trip and I am glad I was with them. For those who would like private, custom trips around Italy, I'd definitely recommend Rome Italy Explora as the agency of choice.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for the 5-star review! We’re glad you’re happy with our service. Hope to see you again soon!

The Eucharistic Miracle & the Holy Face Private Tour from Rome: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rome.

How much does The Eucharistic Miracle & the Holy Face Private Tour from Rome cost?

    +

Prices start at $280 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rome usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does The Eucharistic Miracle & the Holy Face Private Tour from Rome take?

    +

Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rome is not rushed.

Is The Eucharistic Miracle & the Holy Face Private Tour from Rome worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 62 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 11 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Rome, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule The Eucharistic Miracle & the Holy Face Private Tour from Rome?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is The Eucharistic Miracle & the Holy Face Private Tour from Rome suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book The Eucharistic Miracle & the Holy Face Private Tour from Rome?

    +

Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rome can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rome and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does The Eucharistic Miracle & the Holy Face Private Tour from Rome start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rome within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Rome?

    +

Rome runs on skip-the-line access. The Colosseum underground, the Vatican before opening, and the catacombs south of the walls all require a licensed operator, and the price gap between the good ones and the rest is smaller than you would expect. We rank by guide credentials, group size and how reliably the promised access actually materialises. On Outty we rank every Rome experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Rome Pasta and Tiramisu Class: Ravioli, Fettuccine & Fine Wine 5*, Pasta Making & Wine Tasting with Dinner in Frascati from Rome, Rome: Pizza & Tiramisu or Gelato Class with Flowing Fine Wine 5*. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Rome?

    +

April, May, September and October. August is hot and half the city is shut. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Rome?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
