The tour starts from the meeting point and continues with the visit to the Roman Forum, considered the real political, commercial, social, and religious center of Rome at the time of the Monarchy and the Republican period. At the center of the Forum, it is possible to walk on the same cobble-stones of the “Via Sacra” (Sacred Way) leading to Capitol Hill and admire the remaining off with its ancient basilicas, triumphal arches, honorary columns, and ancient markets.

Colosseum
The Colosseum (Flavian Amphitheater) is still the largest amphitheater in the world today, it was commissioned by the emperor Titus Flavius Vespasian who to build it chose the area between the Palatine, Esquiline, and Celian hills, previously occupied by the artificial lake of the Domus Aurea of Nero. Its construction began in 70 AD and ended in 80 AD under the empire of Titus, son of Vespasian. The building, intended for fights, games between gladiators (munera), simulations of hunting ferocious and exotic animals (venationes), and naumachia (naval combats), is composed of four overlapping architectural orders; the first three are made up of eighty arches framed by semi-columns, the fourth is divided into panels interspersed with windows. In the last order, masonry and wooden supports were inserted to support an immense tarpaulin (velarium) which served to shelter spectators from the sun and rain.

Underwhelming Experience
Tour guide Julio showed up 10 minutes late and we thought we had no tour. It is peak travel season and it was extremely crowded everywhere but yet he did not have a microphone and we could not understand him at all. It was not hid accent it was the fact that it was noisy everywhere and he barely stopped and talked instead he rushed us and we never really got to stop and listen to him and his voice was never projected loud enough. His facts were short and we didn't really learn anything.
Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry to hear that the experience did not meet your expectations. We understand that a 10-minute delay at the beginning of a tour can cause concern, and we regret any uncertainty this may have created. Regarding the visit itself, during peak travel season Rome’s major archaeological sites can be exceptionally crowded and noisy, which can unfortunately make communication more challenging. Julio is an experienced and knowledgeable guide who takes his work seriously, and we are sorry that on this occasion his explanations were not as easy for you to hear or follow as they normally are. Our small-group tours are designed to allow guides to interact directly with guests, although we recognize that in particularly crowded conditions the guide may need to make additional adjustments to voice, positioning, and pace. We also regret that you felt rushed, as this is certainly not the experience we aim to provide. We appreciate your comments and will use them constructively, while also standing behind the professionalism and knowledge of our guide. Thank you again for bringing your concerns to our attention.

The Glory of Ancient Rome and Colosseum
Our tour of the Colosseum and the Vatican was absolutely incredible, and a huge part of that was thanks to our amazing guide. From start to finish, he was knowledgeable, engaging, and genuinely passionate about the history of Rome. He brought every site to life with fascinating stories and details you’d never catch on your own. The Colosseum felt like stepping back in time, and the Vatican was just as impressive—he made sure we didn’t miss any of the important highlights while still keeping things fun and easy to follow. He also kept the group moving smoothly, avoided unnecessary wait times, and was always happy to answer questions. You can tell he truly cares about giving people a memorable experience. If you’re planning a tour in Rome, I highly recommend this guide. He made the entire experience unforgettable.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful and detailed review we are truly delighted to hear that your experience at the Colosseum and the Vatican was so memorable it means a lot to us that your guide made the history come alive with passion and engaging storytelling while keeping everything smooth and enjoyable throughout the day we sincerely appreciate your kind recommendation and hope to welcome you again for another unforgettable experience in the future

Why this scores 50
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
The Glory of Ancient Rome and Colosseum, Half Day Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rome.
How much does The Glory of Ancient Rome and Colosseum, Half Day Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $128 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rome usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does The Glory of Ancient Rome and Colosseum, Half Day Tour take?
+
Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rome is not rushed.
Is The Glory of Ancient Rome and Colosseum, Half Day Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 50 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.5/5 across 2 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Rome, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule The Glory of Ancient Rome and Colosseum, Half Day Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is The Glory of Ancient Rome and Colosseum, Half Day Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book The Glory of Ancient Rome and Colosseum, Half Day Tour?
+
Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rome can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rome and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does The Glory of Ancient Rome and Colosseum, Half Day Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rome within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Rome?
+
Rome runs on skip-the-line access. The Colosseum underground, the Vatican before opening, and the catacombs south of the walls all require a licensed operator, and the price gap between the good ones and the rest is smaller than you would expect. We rank by guide credentials, group size and how reliably the promised access actually materialises. On Outty we rank every Rome experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Rome Pasta and Tiramisu Class: Ravioli, Fettuccine & Fine Wine 5*, Pasta Making & Wine Tasting with Dinner in Frascati from Rome, Rome: Pizza & Tiramisu or Gelato Class with Flowing Fine Wine 5*. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Rome?
+
April, May, September and October. August is hot and half the city is shut. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Rome?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
