Absolute best walking tours in Chicago hands down
Stumbled on his Instagram and immediately booked a tour for the next day, and honestly it was the best decision ever. We did both the Wicker Park and the Graceland Cemetery tours and they were incredible. We’ve since gone on another one and at this point we honestly can’t wait to do the rest of them. He is such an incredible storyteller and without a doubt runs the best walking tours in Chicago. We’ve already recommended him to so many people, and everyone we’ve talked to who has gone says the exact same things. We also ended up buying two copies of his Doorways of Chicago book so we could keep one at home and put one in the office, and the patients are totally obsessed with flipping through it. Truly cannot recommend enough!

A Fascinating Journey Through Chicago’s History
We’ve now done multiple tours with Ronnie, and once again he delivered an outstanding experience. The Graceland Cemetery tour was fascinating from start to finish. It was incredible to learn about the history of Chicago through the stories of the visionaries, innovators, and influential figures who helped shape the city. Ronnie has a gift for bringing history to life. Every stop had a story that was engaging, meaningful, and full of details we never would have noticed on our own. You can tell he genuinely loves what he does, and that passion makes the experience unforgettable. Whether you’re a lifelong Chicagoan or just visiting, this tour offers a whole new perspective on the city’s history. We left with an even greater appreciation for Chicago and are already looking forward to our next tour with Ronnie. Highly recommend!

Fun and informative tour
This tour focuses on the gravesites and mausoleums of Chicago’s most successful businessmen and architects of the late 19th century to the early 20th century. Our tour guide, Ronnie was very informative and also did a great job of incorporating his website into the tour (you scanned a QR Code to access additional tour content). I would highly recommend this tour!

Beautiful trip
This trip around Graceland with Ronnie Frey was awesome. We learned about famous Chicagoans, their innovations and impact on city history. We were fascinated by Ronnie’s soft manners and pace of the tour.
Response from the operator: It was so nice to meet you and I am so glad you enjoyed the tour - so fun even in the sweltering heat!

tepid tour
While the afternoon at Graceland Cemetery was not helped by the 90 degrees+ temps - sadly our tour guide was lacking in his overall knowledge and led most of the tour reading content from his cell phone. It was hard for him to field questions that were not in his script. Nice guy and I suggest he do more homework before conducting rather pricey tours.
Response from the operator: Thank you for joining the Graceland Cemetery tour and for taking the time to share your feedback. It was certainly a tough day weather-wise, but I also understand your concerns about the delivery. As your guide, I take that seriously and always aim to improve. If I don’t know the answer to a question, I’m honest about it rather than guessing—no one person knows everything, and I believe in getting the details right. Having said that. I don’t recall any questions going unaddressed let alone multiple ones, but I appreciate you bringing this up and will reflect on how I can better serve future guests. Also, a quick heads-up: third party platforms sometimes add a significant markup to ticket prices. For the best rate and tour selection, I recommend booking directly. Thanks again for the feedback!

Why this scores 62
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
The Deep Pockets Of Graceland Cemetery Walking Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Chicago.
How much does The Deep Pockets Of Graceland Cemetery Walking Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $45 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Chicago usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does The Deep Pockets Of Graceland Cemetery Walking Tour take?
+
Plan for about 1.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Chicago is not rushed.
Is The Deep Pockets Of Graceland Cemetery Walking Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 62 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 11 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Chicago, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule The Deep Pockets Of Graceland Cemetery Walking Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is The Deep Pockets Of Graceland Cemetery Walking Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book The Deep Pockets Of Graceland Cemetery Walking Tour?
+
Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Chicago can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Chicago and add a light layer if any part of the 1.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does The Deep Pockets Of Graceland Cemetery Walking Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Chicago within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Chicago?
+
Chicago's signature experience is still the architecture boat cruise, and the difference between the docent-led originals and the party-boat imitators is the single biggest quality gap in the city. Beyond the river: gangster history walks, Art Institute access, deep-dish and hot-dog crawls, and skydeck timed entry. Outty Ranking leans on guide credentials and how consistently the promised route runs. On Outty we rank every Chicago experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Original Chicago Architecture Interiors Tour: Dazzling Interiors, Chicago Murder Mystery Tour, Chicago Favorites Ultimate Food and Walking Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Chicago?
+
May to October. Winter cruises stop running when the river ices. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Chicago?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
