The Best of Amsterdam: Private Full-Day Tour with a Canal Cruise

Our special wifes birthday treat which ended as not special at all!!!!

This was my wife's 60th birthday treat and our 20 year anniversary with Marella/Thompson cruises. With our cabin no4051 we had a persistent banging of pipework all the time. We reported the noise twice over the phone and once at reception. After two nights of no sleep we went to reception and was told there was no record of this problem on their system, (first lie). The receptionist stated to phone when it did it again, and by the time we had got back to the cabin there was the banging again. Called reception and reported it to the same member of staff. He came down and said they had found the problem in the engine room and was sorting it. twenty minutes later he called our cabin and said the problem had been fixed only to find ten minutes later the banging still ongoing (2nd lie) We went to speak to the cabin manager but would not see us. The receptionist stated if we came near the end of the cruise, there could be some compensation, but i stated we wanted a full nights sleep not compensation. After 20 mins the receptionist stated he had found a alternative cabin from a no-show passenger and offered it to us. We took it. At the end of the cruise we spoke to the receptionist about compensation but just shrugged his shoulders as we had been given a upgrade to a cabin with a porthole. On dress to impress night we went to Latitude 53 and was given table 251 that only had 2 napkins on, no cutlery and no glasses. After 15 mins we asked a waiter for some water. The next table was just the same. After the water we asked if we could have some wine with the meal, and some bread. We eventually got the wine but never saw the bread. My wife is a coeliac and has a gluten free diet and chooses her meal in the morning and the system works quite well. The waiter came to the table and repeated her order then asked me what did i want. I pointed out i had not been given a menu to date so he went and got me one and stood at the side of me waiting for me to choose, very rude. The starters came over 50 mins from sitting at the table and the food was look warm/cold. We at this time got up and walked out and went to the kitchens on the 10th floor for something to eat. On the way out of the restaurant i pointed the shambolic service to a manager and he just said sorry. In all the cruises we have been on this has to be the most shambolic night we have ever had on board a ship. We posted out nightmare on navigator and was asked to meet a manager the following day which we did. Again we told the story and got sorry. We also pointed out we had never been on the cruise when the manager on the night didn't acknowledge us or anyone, he looked like he didn't want to be there. We also thought the music on board was very average/poor. A thumbs up to the cabin lads who where great fun and worked extremely hard, unlike other's on this ship. We filled in a questionnaire when we got back home but have not had any response from Marella. Its like car or house insurance you don't know how good the service is, till you need help or answers. Very poor over all Marella, staff on this ship needs a good looking at from top to bottom

Tijs was absolutely amazing! Very knowledgeable about all aspects of art, history and so much more. The 8 hours passed by in the blink of an eye. Thank you Tijs, for a fun filled fantastic day

Hello, the tour guide...

Hello, the tour guide arrived 20 minutes late and was sweating profusely and appeared sick. The tour should have been canceled.

Response from the operator: Hi Sandy, We apologise for the delay in your start time. Our guide clarified why he was running late and won't happen again. Regarding the sweating, it was during the summertime with heat waves hitting Europe so that explains the situation, but rest assured that when our guides are ill, they don't go on tour with guests.
