Authentic food experience in Kandy!
Rashid made this tasting tour great in Kandy. We went to the local food plaza where local artisans prepared authentic Sri-Lankan food. We actually were swamped with food - highly recommended

Not a good food tour
I enjoyed the fresh food market tastings except I don’t think it’s necessary to taste all 6 banana varieties. It was filling but not the most interesting aspect about Sri Lankan food surely. I also don’t eat a lot of sugar so didn’t enjoy the sweet tastings. The savoury food tastings were all deep fried things. I don’t eat deep fried food normally. It would have been better if one of the lady cooks at the food stall came and explained how they made the dishes. The experience would have been better if the guide asked more questions about what types of food I wanted to taste. I was expecting more detail about the ingredients and how dishes were made. Perhaps add some curries and other savouries besides deep fried things. It was a very wet evening, the guide had an umbrella for himself but did not provide one for me. He also asked me to pay for some snacks as I was catching the train the next day. Given the gist if this tour I would expect the guide to offer the snacks as a gift. I didn’t feel it was value for money at all. I was asked at the end what was I going to eat for dinner. I was surprised by this question because this food tour was intended to be my dinner given the high cost of the tour. I had paid enough money for this to be a full dinner. I was full but not very impressed or satisfied. The best food tour guides I have experienced in various countries around the world are passionate and knowledgeable about the dishes they cook. They also go out if their way to make you feel taken care of. Both of these elements were missing in this case. I would like to request a refund.
Response from the operator: Dear guest, Thank you for taking the time to share such thoughtful and detailed feedback. We are truly sorry to hear that your food tour in Kandy did not feel as personal, enriching, or satisfying as you had hoped. Our hosts are usually very happy to customize their tours according to guests’ dietary needs and preferences, and they can adapt tastings when they have a clearer sense of what someone enjoys or avoids. We are sorry that this was not explored more with you, and we are sure the host would have tried to adjust the experience had he known more about your preferences from the start. We also hear your concerns about the balance of tastings, the level of explanation, and the overall feeling of care during a rainy evening. These elements are an important part of what we want our experiences to offer, and we are sorry to hear that they fell short for you. Thank you again for sharing your perspective. Feedback like yours helps us continue improving so future guests can enjoy the passion, warmth, and customization that define a great Withlocals tour. Kind regards, The Withlocals Team

Holiday highlight!
Our street food tour with Buddhima was wonderful. Buddhima is so lovely, generous and knowledgeable, it was like spending the evening with a good friend, who took great care of us. Buddhima introduced us to lots of different foods, answered all our many questions, and shared so much about life in Sri Lanka. She also gave us some great tips for the rest of our trip. If we return to Kandy we would definitely do the tour again - there is always more food to discover. We have already recommended Buddhima's tour to other travellers.

Brilliant food tour of Kandh
My mother and I were in Kandy for our first night in Sri Lanka so opted for a food tour with Chandana and had a lovely evening. Chandana is very knowledgeable, friendly and kind and his choice of food was perfect. We had the opportunity to try many local Sri Lankan dishes at a variety of restaurants and markets, learned a lot about Sri Lanka, the culture, people and history and enjoyed getting to know Chandana. By the end of the tour, we were full and happy!

Great food misleading information
The food was great and there was plenty of it but all the locations that’s in the itinerary we did not go to we just walked around the city for 3 hours
Response from the operator: Hi Emma, Thank you for your feedback. While we're glad you enjoyed the food, we're sorry to hear that the itinerary did not match your expectations. We aim to provide a well-balanced experience, and we regret that the tour felt more like a walk than the planned visits. Your comments are valuable, and we will review them to ensure future guests have a more fulfilling experience. We appreciate you sharing your thoughts and hope to improve. Cheers, Withlocals Team

Why this scores 65
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
The 10 Tastings of Kandy With Locals: Private Street Food Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kandy.
How much does The 10 Tastings of Kandy With Locals: Private Street Food Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $85 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kandy usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does The 10 Tastings of Kandy With Locals: Private Street Food Tour take?
+
Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kandy is not rushed.
Is The 10 Tastings of Kandy With Locals: Private Street Food Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 65 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.5/5 across 85 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Kandy, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule The 10 Tastings of Kandy With Locals: Private Street Food Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is The 10 Tastings of Kandy With Locals: Private Street Food Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book The 10 Tastings of Kandy With Locals: Private Street Food Tour?
+
Around 30 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kandy can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kandy and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does The 10 Tastings of Kandy With Locals: Private Street Food Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kandy within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Kandy?
+
On Outty we rank every Kandy experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Explore Kandy City Tour by Tuk Tuk, Tours and Transportation in Sri Lanka, Chauffeur guide and Tour organizer. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Kandy?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Kandy?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
