Wow so many battles have taken place over this location
We arrived at Attica and the temple of Poseidon (god of the sea), and one to Athena. The temple of Poseidon is up high on a rock summit and consist of an impressive grouping of standing columns up 180 ft high on a hilltop overlooking the sea. Construction of the temple started in early 5 BC. Originally the temple also had a strong wall fortification built around the base of the hill. In 332 BC it was captured by the Macedonians, and was retaken by the Athenians in 307 BC, and back into the Macedonians hands in 263 BC and back again by the Athenians in 229; so you can see many a battle took place on this predominant point out into the Aegean sea. The walk up to the top is easy but on our day very windy. Back down from the temple there was a big dance celebration at the restaurant.

Best sunset spot!
This is by far the best sunset in a very long time (if not ever!). The trip is worth only for the views, but also Nikos was very helpful organising and taking us to a customised trip. Thank you!

5 star experience
Highly recommended if you are on a short visit to Greece / Athens. We have a very good tour director / owner experience. Look for Nikos as he will drive with his very comfortable van and affordable rates for this tour. aside for the scenic destinations, he will also bring you to an authentic greek restaurant. it was really a great experience while in Greece. Top choice!

Perfect private tour for small group of friends& family
Thumbs up. Our driver was prompt, courteous and super entertaining. Despite the popularity of the destination we also got to see the hidden gems around. Loved the whole Athenian riviera-glamorous laid back lifestyle vibe!

Afternoon trip to Cape Sounion
We visited Cape Sounion during our stop in Athens. It was one of many attractive options, but the only question that remained was - how do we get to this place, in addition in a group of ten people? It was actually a coincidence, but we got in touch with Upper Tours, who offered us a great price and at the same time a luxury vehicle, where we all fitted comfortably. Used to various drivers, we were very surprised by the willingness and helpfulness of Nikos, with whom our journey went pleasantly thanks to fun conversation and comfort of the car. The sunset at Cape Sounion was breathtaking, we stayed until dusk before the site closed to tourists. But what about the evening? Thanks to Nikos, we had the opportunity to visit a local Greek home restaurant back to Athens along with a short walk around the night sea. Simply put, we didn't hire a driver with a car, but a great companion and guide with whom we spent a great time. Although we did not have an unlimited budget, we did not regret a single moment that we decided to take a trip with Upper Tours and also recommend them to our friends whenever they are given the opportunity to visit Athens. Thanks a lot, man!

Why this scores 54
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Temple of Poseidon, Sounion Sunset & Athens Riviera Private Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Athens.
How much does Temple of Poseidon, Sounion Sunset & Athens Riviera Private Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $110 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Athens usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Temple of Poseidon, Sounion Sunset & Athens Riviera Private Tour take?
+
Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Athens is not rushed.
Is Temple of Poseidon, Sounion Sunset & Athens Riviera Private Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 54 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable culture & history in Athens, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Temple of Poseidon, Sounion Sunset & Athens Riviera Private Tour?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is Temple of Poseidon, Sounion Sunset & Athens Riviera Private Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Temple of Poseidon, Sounion Sunset & Athens Riviera Private Tour?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Athens can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Athens and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Temple of Poseidon, Sounion Sunset & Athens Riviera Private Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Athens within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Athens?
+
On Outty we rank every Athens experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Athens Small Group E-Bike Tour, Small Group Greek Traditional Food Tour in Athens 20+ Tastings, Athens Scenic Bike Tour with Regular or Electric Bike + Acropolis. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Athens?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Athens?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
