How not to love Santorini
We have, in the past, always had great experiences booking with Viator. So, with this in mind, we booked a tour in Santorini. This was the worst “tour” imaginable. The “tour” was recommended by a Viator operator with whom I personally spoke. Our so called guide was a young man who had no interest in or knowledge of Santorini driving us to locales and leaving us totally to our own devices. When asked a question his consistent response was: “I dunno… I’m just a driver”… This “tour” was supposed to include admission tickets to Akrotiri. When we tried to enter, we weren’t allowed in. We were told our ticket bar code was invalid. They had never heard of Viator. We went back to the driver, who was sleeping, and told him the issue. He said admission was not included, we showed him the Viator confirmation on which included admission was clearly indicated. He had never heard of Viator. After several minutes, he called his boss, and after a lengthy conversation sent them a screenshot of our Viator agreement, and after more conversation finally bought them himself. This all took about half an hour. Then in we went and looked at the ruins….with absolutely no explanation of the ruins. The rest of the experience was more of the same. We had expected a guide. What we got was a driver who self-admittingly hated the island, hated and cared nothing for its history or antiquities and could barely wait to get through the day. It was his last day stuck here he advised us. We would have been better and more cheaply served by renting a car and driving ourselves to these locations. Or just by hiring a local driver. To add insult to this ridiculous experience, when we got back to our drop off point, the driver told us we were an half hour over the allotted time, and we owed more money. I replied that if we were over their “allotted” time, the reason was because the “tour” operator had provided no tickets, and we spent half an hour just trying to get into the ruins at Akrotiri, and I had no intention of paying any more. He called his boss… they dropped the issue, and we left.. If this is the quality of service that defines Viator, then the company should be ashamed. If you do take this tour, you’ll probably never ever want to come back to Santorini again.
Response from the operator: thank you

A Dissapointment
Santorini was one of the most exciting stops for us on a recent cruise. Sadly, our visit was not what we had hoped. Part of the issue was a problem with the cruise ship we were on, but a significant disappointment was also this tour provider. I had received good communication from the tour operator prior to the tour, so my hopes were high that we would have a great tour. But the driver was not someone whom I had a chance to speak with before the tour. And I found out that this driver had not done a tour on his own before taking the six of us on a tour of this beautiful island. Perhaps because of his inexperience, our guide was very quiet. Most of us could not hear anything that the guide was saying. And honestly, he was young and just didn't have as many details to share as we had experienced with other tours and guides in other locations. Most guides are deeply knowledgeable about the geography, history, and culture of the local area, but our driver either didn't have that experience or didn't share it. The biggest issue, however, was that we ended up spending most of the three hours we had booked driving from one site to another and not really seeing much of the island. We ended up making 3 stops. One was beautiful but we were left to figure out where to go and how to get there. One of the stops was to a museum that was closed for the day due to public voting. Somehow the driver and tour company missed that point. So, we ended up spending 30+ minutes driving to a museum that was closed. The third stop was to a beautiful beach that we could look at but not visit. I have personally engaged many tours and guides all over the world. Sadly, this was the worst of any experience for me in any location.

Great personalized experience
My tour guide, Kristina (spelling?), was very kind and knowledgeable. I had created a tour plan, but made changes when she picked me up, and this was completely fine. Personally, I wasn’t comfortable renting a car or moto to drive myself in a foreign country, so this was a great solution to still be able to see the rest of the island. I was picked up in Fira, and we were able to tour Oía, the monastery, and Black Beach. It seems the entire island from north to south can be toured in the 3-hour timeframe. We spent about 20 mins at each location. The van was spacious and clean.
Response from the operator: Dear Mrs. Alexix_K, We are more than grateful for your kind words. Was a pleasure to have you as our guest and we look forward to welcoming you again! Kind regards,

We wanted a short custom tour of Santorini just before we catch our flight back home to see few places . We are glad we booked it with this tour operator. The guide covered all those spots and took our needs into consideration.

Why this scores 56
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Tailormade Santorini island tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Santorini.
How much does Tailormade Santorini island tour cost?
+
Prices start at $106 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Santorini usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Tailormade Santorini island tour take?
+
Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Santorini is not rushed.
Is Tailormade Santorini island tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 56 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.4/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Santorini, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Tailormade Santorini island tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Tailormade Santorini island tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Tailormade Santorini island tour?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Santorini can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Santorini and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Tailormade Santorini island tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Santorini within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Santorini?
+
On Outty we rank every Santorini experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Half Day Premium Catamaran Cruise in Santorini including Oia, Private Santorini Tailor Made - Choice of the Guest!, Private Classic Santorini Panorama: Visit Top Destinations. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Santorini?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Santorini?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
