BEST TACO TOUR EVER!!!
We did the Taco Tour with Puerto Vallarta Discovery Tours this morning, and it was hands down one of the best experiences we’ve ever had! Our tour guide, Heidy, was absolutely amazing. She shared so much local history and culture, making every stop even more meaningful. The tacos were the best we’ve ever had, and the surprise treats along the way made it even better—homemade popsicles, fresh churros, and, of course, some tequila! Every stop felt authentic and gave us a true taste of Puerto Vallarta. If you’re visiting Puerto Vallarta, this tour is a must-do. It’s the perfect mix of incredible food, local culture, and fun. We would absolutely do it again and can’t recommend Heidy and Puerto Vallarta Discovery Tours enough!

A unique cultural experience for true foodies!
Our group of 8 had the pleasure of having Eric as our tour guide for our taco tour in Puerto Vallarta and nearby areas. Eric readily shared his extensive knowledge of Mexican food, culture and history while we enjoyed the various types of tacos, including Birria, seafood, Barbacoa and carnitas (my favorite). He has a great personality with a sense of humor and was very accommodating with our group that included some seniors that needed extra assistance. His van was comfortable and well maintained. We hope to take another Discovery tour next week and will definitely ask for Eric.

Good food, but bad guide.
We were picked up at our hotel no problem and picked up other guests on other tours. The van had small cramped seats. No leg room. We got to the meeting point and were moved to a different van with more leg room. Two others joined. Our guide was Emma and driver was Giovani (or a name close to that). Emma wasn’t very friendly. She didn’t try to engage us or build any community among her and the group. I have no idea what the names of the establishments were, we were never told. The first stop Emma said it was a tripe taco and you could also have beef if you wanted. She didn’t tell us the significance of tripe or why it’s eaten. She said she didn’t like it. All but one of the taco places were shady looking. Thankfully, we didn’t get sick. It didn’t seem as if any of the places aside from our last stop was expecting us. We only had a table ready for us at the last stop. We went to a popsicle store with delicious popsicles, but learned nothing about the family that owned it. Nor did we learn anything about any of the establishment’s. We stopped at a tortilla factory. Didn’t learn about the process to make them just saw them coming off the machine and being packed. Nor did we have a taste. I’m attaching a picture of our guide at our popsicle stop. She sat by herself eating her popsicle playing on her phone. She did talk to two school girls at the popsicle shop, which is more than she talked to us. Also, the guide and our driver had many conversations in Spanish in the van. I don’t speak Spanish, so had no idea what they were saying, I felt that was rude. It wasn’t about the drive. For future, if the driver talks to the guide about something, the guide should tell us what was just said. They both spoke English, so speaking in Spanish is suspicious and makes me feel like they are taking about us. Emma, our guide should have been talking to us while we were driving and telling us about the areas, history and culture. Overall, the food was good, but the guide and actual tour was lacking.

Fun and interesting taco experience
Professional tour guide, Adrian, introduced my husband and I to 5 wonderful locally created tacos...beef, pork and seafood. Each offering was delicious and varied from the one before. We also were treated to coconut ice cream bar and a chocolate factory. GREAT tour!

Why this scores 60
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Taco tasting around Puerto Vallarta and Pitillal: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Puerto Vallarta.
How much does Taco tasting around Puerto Vallarta and Pitillal cost?
+
Prices start at $51 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Puerto Vallarta usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Taco tasting around Puerto Vallarta and Pitillal take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Puerto Vallarta is not rushed.
Is Taco tasting around Puerto Vallarta and Pitillal worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 60 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.4/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Puerto Vallarta, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Taco tasting around Puerto Vallarta and Pitillal?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Taco tasting around Puerto Vallarta and Pitillal suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Taco tasting around Puerto Vallarta and Pitillal?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Puerto Vallarta can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Puerto Vallarta and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Taco tasting around Puerto Vallarta and Pitillal start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Puerto Vallarta within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Puerto Vallarta?
+
On Outty we rank every Puerto Vallarta experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Winner 2026 Downtown Vallarta Food Tour with Vallarta Food Tours, Signature Taco Tour in PV with Vallarta Eats, Food & Mixology Tour:Tequila,Tacos, Mezcal and Agave Cocktails. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Puerto Vallarta?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Puerto Vallarta?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
