Great exhibition, terrific guided tour

Went to see Dangerously Modern - terrific exhibition and the Tour Guide (didn't give her name and no identifying badge), was excellent. She talked about the social context of the time which spported the exhibition title. She was also very good on concise explanations of complicated art theory. Thank you for illuminating an excellent range of pictures

Response from the operator: Thank you for such a generous review! We're delighted you enjoyed Dangerously Modern, and it's wonderful to hear how well the exhibition's social context came through in your tour. We'll be sure to pass your kind words on to our guiding team! It means a lot to know your guide's explanations of complex art theory landed so clearly, and that she brought the "dangerously modern" theme to life so well. We're also grateful for the note about her not having a visible name tag! Thank you again for taking the time to share this, and we hope you'll join us for another guided tour on your next visit.

A gigantic waste of time and money

appalling waste of time Mike Hewson exhibition for kids. It is not for kids. There was a sandpit with very little sand It was advertised as bring their bathers. Wrong there was a garbage bin. you could pull on a rope and tip some water out. neither were safe. The sandpit was concrete with a bit of sand. the rope to pull the garbage bin over retracted and a little girl was yanked flying There was one small slippery dip and 2 single seat swings DO NOT GO We went to a park afterwards with a playground that functioned AND THE COST. He spent months sourcing these heavy concrete waste blocks and rubble. Who paid him and why. This is what is wrong with Sydney.

Response from the operator: Thank you for sharing your thoughts. We understand that our free exhibition Mike Hewson: The Key’s Under the Mat, may not have aligned with your expectations and we appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback. Mike Hewson is known for his acclaimed public art commissions, including playgrounds in Southbank (Melbourne), Leichhardt and St Peters (Sydney). The Key’s Under the Mat is the artist’s latest project, transforming the Art Gallery’s Tank into an immersive art park for visitors of all ages to experience and explore. As part of the installation, Hewson has created a unique playground that invites children and families to engage with materials in unexpected ways. While it differs from conventional playgrounds, safety and accessibility were central to its design and installation. We acknowledge that every visitor brings a unique perspective, and your comments have been shared with our team for consideration. Warm regards, Visitor Experience Team Art Gallery of New South Wales

Wish it was longer

Extremely knowledgeable guide. Courteous and friendly. And knew so much about the gallery’s physical history as well.

Sydney: Tours at Art Gallery of New South Wales: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Sydney.

How much does Sydney: Tours at Art Gallery of New South Wales cost?

+

Prices start at $59 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Sydney usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Sydney: Tours at Art Gallery of New South Wales take?

+

Plan for about 1 hour from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Sydney is not rushed.

Is Sydney: Tours at Art Gallery of New South Wales worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 56 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.5/5 across 11 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Sydney, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Sydney: Tours at Art Gallery of New South Wales?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Sydney: Tours at Art Gallery of New South Wales suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Sydney: Tours at Art Gallery of New South Wales?

+

Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Sydney can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Sydney and add a light layer if any part of the 1-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Sydney: Tours at Art Gallery of New South Wales start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Sydney within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Sydney?

+

On Outty we rank every Sydney experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include WILD Wombat and Kangaroo Day Tour, All Inclusive, Depart Syd: Blue Mountains Best All Inclusive with Local Guide, Blue Mountain Small Group Tour All Inclusive. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Sydney?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Sydney?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
