Penny was phenomenal!
Penny was a great ambassador of Shanghai. She was very knowledgeable of the history of the places we visited. She was personable and delightful. The perfect fit for our family.

A glimpse of China’s beauty
The gardens, the buildings, the canals, from which it is possible to catch the glimpse of the local life, the train ride, the stations… Everything was interesting. But best of all was Penny’s (the guide) telling about life in China and how it changed in the past few years. Perfect organisation of transfers by car, train and boat.

Excellent tour guide
A true walking nugget of information, Kelly is a guide through and through. We asked her so many questions and she handled them with grace, don't miss up on an opportunity to get local knowledge. Her English is commendable and she is perfectly amiable with uncomfortable questions. Suzhou was a great day trip, well worth while if you are in Shanghai and want a quick escape from the city.

Excellent Experience in Suzhou!
I was in Shanghai for a week of work, and it was my first time in Asia. I navigated Shanghai with ease for my business needs, but I was a little skeptical of what it would be like to travel outside of the city for some day trips without the ability to speak Chinese. I particularly wanted to see historical Suzhou, and I felt that I needed a personal guide to get me safely there and back. I'm so glad I followed my instinct. The trip would have not been nearly as successful otherwise. I took a chance on Melody Tours. They weren't the most expensive, and they didn't have the most Trip Advisor reviews. I'm happy to report that my expectations were exceeded in every way possible. They offered a white glove, end-to-end experience that ended up being one of my favorite days of international travel that I have ever had. Kelly picked me up at my downtown hotel and took me to the train station. Along the way - we talked about my general interests (history, design, and the life of diverse peoples in the world today). By the end of the ride, she had a personalized Suzhou itinerary for me. She even took the trouble to get me into my first class high-speed rail seat which came with the price of my tour. In Suzhou, the fantastic Jessica picked me up at the train stations. We had a private driver who took us from there to every site. I was so happy to have a private driver. He was ready for us at every stop making it much better than waiting on taxis. Jessica has lived in Suzhou for many years and has a degree in travel planning. All of this showed throughout the tour. She seemed to know everything! My favorite stop in Suzhou was the Master of Nets Garden, but that was only one of 4 sensational stops on my tour. At every stop, Jessica was very patient with my hundreds of questions. She even helped negotiate great prices for souvenirs that I bought for my family! When I arrived back in Shanghai, I had a driver at the station ready to take me back to my hotel. So easy! Kelly and Jessica provided a fantastic experience. I will definitely look to them for day trip options next time I'm in Shanghai for work. Highly recommended!!!

Why this scores 70
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Suzhou Private Customized Day Trip from Shanghai by Bullet Train: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Shanghai.
How much does Suzhou Private Customized Day Trip from Shanghai by Bullet Train cost?
+
Prices start at $134 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Shanghai usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Suzhou Private Customized Day Trip from Shanghai by Bullet Train take?
+
Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Shanghai is not rushed.
Is Suzhou Private Customized Day Trip from Shanghai by Bullet Train worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 70 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 17 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Shanghai, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Suzhou Private Customized Day Trip from Shanghai by Bullet Train?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Suzhou Private Customized Day Trip from Shanghai by Bullet Train suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Suzhou Private Customized Day Trip from Shanghai by Bullet Train?
+
Around 6 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Shanghai can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Shanghai and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Suzhou Private Customized Day Trip from Shanghai by Bullet Train start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Shanghai within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Shanghai?
+
On Outty we rank every Shanghai experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Private Shanghai Full Day City Tour with Old and New Highlights, Suzhou Private Day Trip from Shanghai with Bullet Train Option, 4-Hour Flexible Private Shanghai City Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Shanghai?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Shanghai?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
