About this experience
You will ride along a gravel path through the jungle to the beach and then along the beach with the waves touching the horses’ feet. After a photo session stop with the turquoise ocean in the back ground the ride goes on to a bar in Bergantin beach for a break and possibility to buy souvenirs (or other drinks than included in the tour). If the ocean and streams are applicable you will be offered to swim with a horse which is a great experience. Consistently magical horseback riding experience
This is the second time I have booked a sunset horseback riding experience with Rancho Salvaje. Both times, Angel was our tour guide. He is a phenomenal person, very knowledgeable and helpful! I am grateful to have had him leading and guiding us on our tour. Especially since I went with my young daughter both times. The horses are so well trained and behaved. It is such a beautiful experience. As I already did, I would book again.

Enjoyable experience!
This was our first excursion on the trip, me and my friends loved it! Very clear communication about pick up instructions. Had a lovely time riding on the horses and lovely guides. Stopped at the beach for a little bit so I’d recommend wearing your bathing suit if you want to take a dip, there’s also people with souvenirs and drinks and food along the beach so I’d take money along with you! Lovely landscape and experience. However, we headed back earlier than when the sun was supposed to set so we didn’t get to catch the sunset. Overall it was an enjoyable experience especially for my first time riding a horse!!

This excursion was...
This excursion was honestly one of the highlights of our trip. The meeting point is a bit remote if you’re not in the designated pickup zone (we were staying in Sosúa), but it ended up being manageable. Our taxi driver found it by asking some locals, and the staff even helped arrange a ride back for us afterward, which was super helpful. The horseback ride starts with about 15 minutes through a lightly wooded area on a very clear, easy-to-follow path. Then you open up onto the beach—and that’s where it really becomes something special. The scenery was stunning. It genuinely felt like being in a movie. There’s a stop along the beach where you can grab food or drinks. My friends and I opted for drinks and got to hang out, take in the views, and even go into the water with the horses, which was such a cool experience. One of the best parts was the photographer (Lolo) who comes along for the entire ride. You do have to pay extra for the photos, but they came out amazing and were 100% worth it in my opinion. The crew was incredible—so attentive and thoughtful, especially when it came to people’s comfort levels. I had no horseback riding experience and was a little nervous, but they paired me with a very calm, well-trained horse that knew exactly what to do. Honestly, I barely had to guide it—it knew where to go, when to stop, and even how to pose for photos. It made the whole experience feel really safe and enjoyable. One thing to note: we went in March, which is part of the rainy season, so there were some muddy patches along the trail. It actually added to the fun, but just be prepared—you’ll probably get a little dirty by the end. Overall, I would absolutely recommend this to anyone. It’s beautiful, beginner-friendly, and just such a fun, memorable experience—even if you’re a little nervous like we were.

Riding on the beach is my favourite
What can I say I love going riding here, the guides are so good they make sure you are very safe they love to talk about the horses and know each and everyone of them. I have got to swim with the horses and gallop the beach. Will always go back..

Why this scores 74
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Sunset Beach Horseback Riding: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Puerto Plata.
How much does Sunset Beach Horseback Riding cost?
+
Prices start at $69 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Puerto Plata usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Sunset Beach Horseback Riding take?
+
Plan for about 2.3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Puerto Plata is not rushed.
Is Sunset Beach Horseback Riding worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 74 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 41 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Puerto Plata, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Sunset Beach Horseback Riding?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Sunset Beach Horseback Riding suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Sunset Beach Horseback Riding?
+
Around 14 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Puerto Plata can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Puerto Plata and add a light layer if any part of the 2.3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Sunset Beach Horseback Riding start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Puerto Plata within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Puerto Plata?
+
On Outty we rank every Puerto Plata experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Monkeyland and Zipline Adventure from Puerto Plata, Monkeyland Puerto Plata, Puerto Plata Highlights City Tours from amber cove and Taino bay. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Puerto Plata?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Puerto Plata?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
