What you'll see and do
Pico Do Areeiro
There is no better way of starting the day than to experience the unique sunrise in Madeira… very invigorating! An event of this nature, only Pico do Areeiro can provide at it’s best. We start climbing up to Areeiro, the 3rd highest peak of Madeira with 1818m of altitude. We climb via Camacha, a little village in the mountains famous by it's wickers pieces. After Camacha is Poiso, wich has a shelter house now turned in to a bar/restaurant, and marks the 1500m of altitude... and finally we arrive at Pico do Areeiro, the highest point in Madeira, and an unique place to watch the sunrise After the sunrise we go down in remote routs, in which we can appreciate Santo da Serra, a village surrounded by raw nature and breathatking views. The final descent to Santa Cruz, a city most known by the airport, and we will use very remote and narrow roads, that provides amazing postcards pictures.

A great morning
Hugo was fabulous. He is brilliantly organised, knows the best spots to stand for the sunrise, takes you to a great roadside cafe, beautiful rainforest walk and beach view.

Exceptional sunrise over the peaks - and the best tour company to experience it with
This is an excellent, well thought through tour - Hugo is a safe, knowledgeable and fun guide whom I would gladly recommend. An early 5 am pickup from my hotel by Hugo, getting to the peaks while still early so you have time to settle in before the crowds arrive (Top Tip: take a jacket!) . After the beautiful sunrise, we took a scenic mountain drive to the North East for a short level hike to another ridge viewpoint, some coffee, and a skywalk over the ocean reefs near Santana before heading back to Funchal. Back to the hotel by 10 am

Breathtaking sunrise trip
Amazing excursion to watch the sun rise, with lots of bonus stop offs. Hugo was amazing, knowledgeable and so helpful, he rearranged the trip to another day just to make sure we got the best weather and views possible. This was the highlight of our trip to Madeira.
Response from the operator: Thank you for this amazing review! It was a perfect morning hosting you and your daughter, wish you all the best!

Wonderful
Our sunrise experience was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience and one of the absolute highlights of our trip to Madeira. Watching the sun rise above the clouds was breathtaking and something we will never forget. A huge part of what made the experience so special was our tour guide, Hugo. He was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and made the entire experience enjoyable from start to finish. He shared interesting information along the way, kept everyone engaged, and made us feel comfortable throughout the entire tour. In addition to the sunrise, we loved stopping at the other viewpoints throughout the tour. Each one offered incredible scenery and gave us the opportunity to experience different parts of Madeira that we may not have otherwise seen. Everything was very well organized, and Hugo’s positive attitude and enthusiasm made an already amazing experience even better. If you’re visiting Madeira, we cannot recommend this experience enough. Waking up early was 100% worth it, and it’s something everyone should experience at least once. It truly felt like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and created memories that we will cherish forever. Thank you, Hugo, for helping make this such an unforgettable experience. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Madeira!
Response from the operator: Thank you for this amazing review! All the best!

Why this scores 81
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Sunrise in Areeiro Peak: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Funchal.
How much does Sunrise in Areeiro Peak cost?
+
Prices start at $5 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Funchal usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Sunrise in Areeiro Peak take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Funchal is not rushed.
Is Sunrise in Areeiro Peak worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 81 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 78 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Funchal, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Sunrise in Areeiro Peak?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Sunrise in Areeiro Peak suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Sunrise in Areeiro Peak?
+
Around 27 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Funchal can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Funchal and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Sunrise in Areeiro Peak start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Funchal within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Funchal?
+
On Outty we rank every Funchal experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Jeep Tour Amazing West to Natural Pools -Full-Day, Porto Moniz, Seixal, Fanal Forest, Cliff Skywalk in Open Roof 4X4, West Tour-Fanal Forest & Porto Moniz Natural Pools Small Groups. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Funchal?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Funchal?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
