On this walking tour, we cast our minds back more than 200 years to a time when Sir Thomas Stamford Bingley Raffles of the British East India Company arrived in Singapore, started a British trading post in 1819, became part of the Straits Settlements in 1826, and eventually a separate colony of the British crown in 1867. We’ll visit well-preserved structures from the Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian eras, and stately neo-classical style buildings, which have all been restored to showcase the splendour of Colonial Singapore. We pay tribute to our former colonial masters who left behind their legacy of careful town planning, sound legal system, good education system, solid infrastructure, impressive architecture, etc, which have certainly played a significant part in the development of modern Singapore. At about midday, we’ll kick back and enjoy lunch by the Singapore River at Boat Quay, before we resume our tour of the Civic District and Old European Town.

Fantastic tour with knowledgeable and friendly guide
We really enjoyed this tour. Ping really knows her history and is a skilled communicator. We learned so much about Singapore’s colonial past, how it influenced Singapore today and we visited places we never would have found on our own. She also looked after us very well, finding lots of shade, airconditioned spaces and places to sit for rests. Singapore is hot and humid so this really made the tour much easier than others we have done. The included lunch was delicious- I chose the Indian Vegetarian set . High recommend for this tour.

Great morning in Singapore, with fascinating bits of information to kick off my visit. Ping was a wonderful guide to her city’s history and really made me wish for far more time here to explore every corner. I loved the fact that lunch was included in the experience, and would recommend this tour wholeheartedly!

A great tour
Ping's tour was excellent. She was informative, knowledgeable and shared both facts and anecdotes that were interesting. The locations chosen to focus on were varied and demonstrated Singapore's history well. Ping took time to answer everyone's questions well and we did not feel rushed on the tour at all. The tour size was good ( we had 11 in our group). I would thoroughly recommend this tour.
