The tour itinerary...
The tour itinerary differed from the description with a stop at a petting zoo (we wouldn’t have chosen a tour with this had we known) and it seemed the tour grouped other itineraries as some people weren’t aware that there was a swim. The pickup was half an hour late and we had to stop for longer at various points so a part of the group could buy beers and shots while we waited. When we also stopped for swimming the guide assured us it was safe enough to jump in but, on getting in, it was only up to our waist and my partner cut her leg jumping. The guide was friendly but overall the tour was overly long with a lot of points spent waiting and we arrived back two hours late.
Response from the operator: Hi Harry! Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your Special Guatape Experience. We are very sorry to hear the tour didn't meet your expectations and that your partner got hurt. We take comments regarding our itinerary descriptions, punctuality, and safety very seriously. We are reviewing the details you mentioned with our operations and guide team to ensure our itineraries are clear, schedules are strictly kept, and safety standards are thoroughly upheld during any swimming stops. We also apologize for the delay in returning and for the stops that prolonged the day unnecessarily. We hope you'll give us another chance in the future to provide you with the seamless and high-quality experience we strive for. If you'd like to discuss this further, please feel free to reach out to us directly.

Great experience
Had a great time on this tour, if you are Solo and contemplating it I would recommend. Met other travelers who I ended up spending the rest of the trip with. David and Gustavo were excellent guides and the trip was eventful and not rushed
Response from the operator: Hi Brandon! Thank you so much for your amazing review and for recommending our Special Guatapé Experience to other solo travelers. We are thrilled to hear that you had such a great time and were able to connect with others during the trip. We will definitely pass on your kind words to David and Gustavo; they will be very happy to know they made your tour eventful and well-paced. We hope to welcome you back on another adventure in Colombia soon!

Good times
Our tour guide, Cesar, was fun and gave our group of about 13, good times. The group was a good mix and a pleasure to spend the day with. The breakfast and lunch were in delightful eateries. More time in the town of Guatape could have been more enjoyable...it felt a bit rushed. El Penol and the boat trip was a wonderful experience. The transportation was safe and smooth.

Basically just a transport service
I would not recommend going on this trip with Capture Colombia. The "tour guide" barely gave us any information and just gave us two times of one hour "to go explore ourselves". It was basically just a paid transport with food included. Minimal info was given. He tried to be friendly and help but once the tour was over, it was radio silence even though I lost something he told me he would check and get back to me. Go with another company or just take public transport yourself.

Customer Service 1/5.
Signed up late at night the day before the tour, got sick during the night, told them before the tour. Money gone, they do not offer anything in terms of doing the tour another day, partal refund or something. Just bad customer service.

Special Guatapé Experience: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Medellín.
How much does Special Guatapé Experience cost?
+
Prices start at $85 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Medellín usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Special Guatapé Experience take?
+
Plan for about 10 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Medellín is not rushed.
Is Special Guatapé Experience worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 82 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 216 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Medellín, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Special Guatapé Experience?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Special Guatapé Experience suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 10-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Special Guatapé Experience?
+
Around 76 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Medellín can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Medellín and add a light layer if any part of the 10-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Special Guatapé Experience start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Medellín within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Medellín?
+
On Outty we rank every Medellín experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Guatapé Tour: Piedra del Peñol with Boat Tour, Breakfast, Lunch, Half Day Bike Tour in Medellin - Local snack, Coffee or Beer, Guided Tour of Comuna 13 Medellín with Snacks Included. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Medellín?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Medellín?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
What is included in Special Guatapé Experience?
+
Included: Lunch; Snacks; In-vehicle air conditioning; Breakfast; and Tea and coffee. Not included: Entrance to the Rock. Always check the voucher for the final list before you travel.
What languages is Special Guatapé Experience offered in?
+
It is offered in English and Spanish. Pick your language when choosing a date and time, as not every departure runs in every language.
Will I get instant confirmation and a mobile ticket for Special Guatapé Experience?
+
Confirmation is sent by the operator after booking, usually within 48 hours; if it is not confirmed you are not charged. Mobile tickets are accepted, so you can show the voucher on your phone.
What happens to Special Guatapé Experience if the weather is bad?
+
This experience depends on good weather. If it is canceled because of poor weather, you are offered a different date or a full refund.
