About this experience

Transnistria has preserved a lot of Soviet monuments, equipment, attractive places and facts that will be interesting for everyone to learn. Visiting Transnistria is like traveling on a time machine – not much has changed there since nowadays. The cities of Bender and Tiraspol, keep many soviet monuments, with a specific architecture. You should come to Transnistria especially if you’re from a country that was never a part of the Soviet Bloc or controlled by it. At Mimi Castle we will make an excursion, which will include a visit to: Historical Cellars, Production area, Castle's Gardens & Interiors. After excursion will continue with the tasting of 5 wines and a set of delicious traditional Moldovan and gourmet food appetizers: gravlax salmon with black bread, tomme cheese handmade with pear, pâté with almond rye cracker, mozzarella with cherry tomatoes and olives, and roast beef with wine sauce. The excursion at Castle Mimi Winery lasts about 90 minutes.

What you'll see and do

  1. Bender

Our road to Bender will last around 1 hour 15 minutes. We will visit the Bender Fortress, located on the right bank of the Dniester in the city of Bender. The Fortress is an architectural monument of the XVI century. The design of the fortress is the work of the Turkish architect Sinan, which was built on the model of Western bastion-type structures. Construction of the fortress began in 1538 after the city became part of the Ottoman Empire. It was surrounded by a large earth wall and a deep ditch, which was never filled with water. The fortress is divided into upper, lower and center. Its total area is about 20 hectares. The facade is located in the southwestern part of the fortress.

  2. Tighina Military Cemetery

We will visit the Memorial complex, the site of an abandoned military cemetery, where, according to existing data, there were buried 5127 souls. The military-historical memorial complex was officially opened in Bender, Transnistria on October 7, 2008. The memorial complex was erected at the initiative of the PMR Ministry of Internal Affairs on the territory of an abandoned military cemetery.

    20 minutes here

  3. Tiraspol

Overview of Tiraspol, capital of The Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (Pridnestrovie/Transnistria). We will discover the main highway here that is named 25th October Street. It crosses the center from east to west. We will visit the Cathedral of Christ's Nativity, the House of the Soviets, the sports complex "Sheriff", Green Market center, the monument of Generalism "Alexander Suvorov", the Memorial of Glory, Tank Monument. Visiting Tiraspol, you can say with confidence that you have been back in USSR!

    120 minutes here

  4. Tiraspol

Near the square is an impressive Supreme Council (the building of the city committee with the flag of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic hovering over it and with the Monument to Lenin of pink granite in front of it). Today it also houses the Government of Pridnestrovie.

    20 minutes here

  5. Tiraspol

Lunch in the atmospheric bistro cafe "Stolovka USSR" or in a typical soviet style restaurant "Back to USSR" from 80's. Lunch is optional, at the request of the guests.

    60 minutes here

  6. Castel Mimi Wine Resort

Mimi Castle was one of the largest wineries in the USSR, employing 1,500 people in its heyday and producing between 6-7 million bottles of wine a month, with most of the production going to the USSR. Mimi Castle with an area of 10 ha, with a production of 2 million bottles of wine, is among the top 15 architectural masterpieces in the world of wine. The fact that in 2018 it had 40,000 visitors from 80 countries, I think it recommends that you cross its threshold. The tour will start from the entrance to the inner courtyard of the castle which is beautifully decorated with lawns, decorative shrubs, mazes, wine barrels used as decoration, a musical fountain that changes its colors and gushes from the floor. After the visit to Castle Mimi Winery you will be transferred to your accommodation.

Day tour of Transnistria

This was a very authentic tour and well worth the money! Slava was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about showing us Transnistria. Don't miss the lunch!

An Unforgettable Experience – Exceptional Guide and Kid-Friendly!

I had a fantastic experience with Moldova Tours! The communication was excellent from start to finish. Our guide, Valerii, was amazing. Since I was traveling alone with my 5-year-old son, Valerii constantly adapted the tour on the fly to keep my son engaged (and he is a very demanding little client!). We visited Transnistria and the Castel Mimi winery, but beyond the sights, Valerii shared so many fascinating facts about Moldova. We didn't feel like 'just another pair of tourists' - we felt like truly honored guests. Thank you so much for the hospitality! I highly recommend them and will definitely be back!

Very reliable agency

We joined this tour in Transnistria the day after taking part in a walking tour of the city of Chisinau. Everything was perfect. The friendly, professional and well prepared guide (Marcel) guided us on this very interesting tour. A visit to Bender and Tiraspol, including Soviet monuments, castle and typical restaurant would have been enough to make the day a success. The visit of the cellars of the Castello Mimì and the excellent wine tasting were the icing on the cake. The tour and the agency "MODOVA TOURS" are definitely a certainty. Highly recommended!

Great Guide and Tour

Excellent guide and fascinating tour with this agency. The lunch places has delicious food in a retro USSR setting which wasn't touristy. The sights were nicely spaced and the small group tour was enjoyable.

Soviet Heritage of Transnistria and Castle Mimi Winery: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Chisinau.

How much does Soviet Heritage of Transnistria and Castle Mimi Winery cost?

+

Prices start at $75 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Chisinau usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Soviet Heritage of Transnistria and Castle Mimi Winery take?

+

Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Chisinau is not rushed.

Is Soviet Heritage of Transnistria and Castle Mimi Winery worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 71 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 7 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Chisinau, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Soviet Heritage of Transnistria and Castle Mimi Winery?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Soviet Heritage of Transnistria and Castle Mimi Winery suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Soviet Heritage of Transnistria and Castle Mimi Winery?

+

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Chisinau can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Chisinau and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Soviet Heritage of Transnistria and Castle Mimi Winery start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Chisinau within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Chisinau?

+

On Outty we rank every Chisinau experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Soviet Era Tour of Transnistria from Chisinau Moldova, One day tour in Transnistria, Tiraspol must-see tour with Anton Dendemarchenko - Pridnestrovie. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Chisinau?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Chisinau?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
